I thought Bona is 21 also, because Pia (the younger sister) is already 19.
Time for Bona/Ahsan to prove themselves this year. Incidentally, Kido/Hendra also start to rise up the rankings when they were 21 (in 2005).
Ahsan born 7 September 1987, while Bona 22 September 1987, (data from PBSI). Like Kido and Hendra, the first is two weeks older than the other...

1. Mistakes by Nova cost the pair.
2. LCW suddenly turned off when close to finishing first set, after that it looked like WC in KL.
3. Wang Yihan and Wang Lin will contest for the top spot in some years to come. Lu Lan will be in the mix as well.
4. Septano/Ahsan showing very good promise.
5. Pretty good effort by Chin/Wong, I must say. Even against a relatively new pair, it is a Chinese pair nevertheless. Cheng/Zhao showed some immaturity, but it will only take some time to fix this problem. Good strong attack.

Just got back to read about today's JO FINALS.
Thank you to all for your posts. :):):) It's great to find so many first time SS Champions.
And my predictions failed badly... Only having 1 correct out of the 5 events. :o:o:o
What our moderator, Cheung, posted is true. Those who are hungrier for success are the ones more likely to win. They try harder. Cheung was telling me that CS/ZYL are hungrier than CEH/WPT to win their WD match.
This also applies to SDK, WYH, LP/JR and MR/VM, who are hungrier to win their matches.
Sometimes, I feel that players should make less comments to the press. I am talking about LCW's comment as reported in the press. When SDK learned about LCW's injury, that could make SDK more determined and hungrier to win, even before the match starts. And it was good that he did it. :):):)
Finally, It's Congratulations to all Match winners (and to PAW winners, as well).

though they have lost. i am still proud of wong/chin as i can see that they have given their best. down 1st game but go on to win g2 convincingly. however, they lost g3 but not without giving a gd fight.
they were trailing by 8 points but fight back and in the end lost the title by just 3 points(18-21).
anyway this wd match is an interesting match with mas having strong defense and chn having strong attack.
honestly mas could have won if they cut down on their errors.
hope that wong/chin will continue to show improvement and win a super series title this year. congrats to them for thieir 1st SS final.
good achievement considering they beat 2nd seed n prevent chn from scoring straight set victories for the title.
hope there is more breakthrough and victories for them.
congrats to all d winners today.
P/S:somehow i feel that wong/chin have very little communication on court.hardly see them encouraging or talk to each other. both look very serius.am i the only one who feels that?i have seen them play before and i feel that they have more communication in older matches in 2006. back then, they were always give each other encouragement and appologizes 4 their mistakes. maybe they should communicate with each other more. maybe ants can tell them about this. anyway all the best to them in china masters

Final result of Japan SS 2008 : INA grabbed two (XD, MS), 2 titles for CHN (WS, WD) and MD title won by DEN. Breakthrough performance is created by CHN juniors and Bona Septano/Mohammad Ahsan (BoSan) who enter finale for the first time in SS tournament despite they lost to former World Champion Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen.
Next stop, CHN Masters SS will be tougher for INA players as CHN top-names back in action after OG.

Congrats to all winners, especially Wang Yihan and Sony DK. Makes a pretty pair, both of 'em. And as expected, our resident BC forummers Jonas/Lars took home the MD title.
Congrats too to the losing finalists, esp Bona/Ahsan and Wong/Chin. They tried hard but it was just not enough. Could Bona be even better than his famous brother? Time will tell.
Heartbreaking defeat for Wong/Chin, they were the better pair for most of the match if only for lack of concentration in the early stages of the final game. A commendable effort nonetheless and they showed great mental spirit to mount a late fightback. One the younger MAS WD pairs have yet to match.

Talking about Mixed Doubles, in the past the Europeans were always the Champions.
It was only in the 1980's when Asian players like, Christian Hadinata/Imelda Wigoeno [INA], Park Joo-Bong/Chung Myung-Hee [KOR], Lee Deuk-choon/Chung So-young [KOR], Wang Peng-Ren/Shi Fang-Jing [CHN], etc... got to master how to play Mixed Doubles effectively.
Therefore, Wang Peng-Ren/Shi Fang-Jing [CHN] should be well remembered.

It's normal things that when Mas player went down, sure got a lot of excuses.
Datuk Lee again perform ''superbly'' in the final. The result showing No.1 World Ranking Player's standard? Or Datuk Lee is only capable to perform well until semi-final?
I can say that the result produced is lousy, as same in the Beijing Olympic Game.
**Or Datuk Lee dont want the title ''Tun''? (He might be conferred the title ''Tun'' if he win the Japan Open - Gold medallist) Because of that he simply play....

And cannot just say "the other player played better", also excuse (not saying you :D). Give any reason, is also excuse.

Being professional badminton player in mas aren't easy. U have to be mentally strong enough to absorb those critics when u lost and praying words when u win.
1 question - If Datuk Lee is injured, why he still want to continue playing the game (final)? He can choose to quit at the beginning of 1st set. And somemore news reported that the injuries is not bad - ''slightly injured.''
If he feels that he is not fit enough (MAYBE HE GOT ALOT OF FUNCTION AND PARTY AFTER CAME BACK FROM BEIJING) to compete in the Japan Open after the 'exhausting Beijing Olympic Game', why still want to compete? He can choose to stay at home and play guli (marbles), just like LiN dAN.

I think Bona/Rong-Rong will little bit nervous since this is their 1st SS Final, however they can follow their senior, MK/HS who win 1st major title in JO two years ago, correct me if I am wrong..

it seem all the 08 OG finalists who entered in this JO fail to grab any title considering so many withdrawal from many top names.

DATUK LEE BOLEH!!!
Well said, these lame excuses need to end ;)

:D:D:D Dato Asbullah ... So are you saying that LCW was thinking that after winning the Semi-Finals was "Mission Accomplished"?
We have to note when LCW told the press about his hand injury.
Anyway, I feel that players should make less comments (to the press) about their injuries before their next match. When learned about a player's injuries, it could make opponent(s) more determined and/or hungrier to win the next match.
:):):)

Well said.
In professional sports, injuries and fatigue are normal and part of the game (imagine that in tennis, it is common that MS players may have to play 3 hours or even 4-5 hours every game in a competition, and when lost, they or their supporters never complain of injuries or fatigue but admit that the winning opponents are playing better).
This is because, managing your own physical conditions from competition to competition are also part of the professionalism / intelligence of the player.
From this simple first point of view, LCW is way worse than many players. Therefore I said he is not good enough to be world no.1, overall speaking.
Talking about his own injury before the JO final, given me an impression that he is pre-empting people with some pre-excuse so that people would have advance sympathy towards any potential loss he might have in the final (okay this is only an impression, no one but LCW could only know whether the true intention is). He should not mention it, or just pull out of the match if the injury really matters.
Therefore, from this second point of view, LCW still disappointed me by lacking the charater of a real champion.
And I dare to guess that being a professional badminton player in China would be more difficult than in MAS. If you are not performing well, apart from critics, you would be easily dumped out of the national team, as they have too many choices. Look at Chen Hong, Wang Chen, Zhou Mi... They could still be in the world's top ten when not in team China, but no longer in team China.
Only when LCW has breakthrough in these areas would he become the real champion, real world No.1..

1) There's not much "praying words" when he wins, just ok, win lor. If LCW win SS title, just alright he won another title. THe OG silver medal was considered as "failure to win 1st gold" not "great you won 2nd". THe praises by the politicians aft OG (seldom happen normally) was due to political tug a war.
2) Also will have criticism, worse maybe - 'how can give up in the finals -> mentallly weak. :D
3) It's already posted that contractually the players must go Japan Open as that's the home country of Yonex. As I recall, LCW is the only MS rep from BAM. LTS, Sairul, Roslin are from clubs. And.......... LCw is defending champion of JO.......
ANd, of course, if dont go, there'll also be criticism....... the Indonesian MD gold medalist, XD silver medalist can go, why LCW so weak & tired, cannot go?:p
All the above is not saying you say,but for sure there will be such comments - that's why the perception of non Msians that Msians are a negative lot, here & in real life.
Have you noticed the Indonesia MD gold medalist, XD silver medalist, WS bronze medalist also didnt win the JO title ? Their junior XD (one half at least) won XD title instead. The WS OG bronze medalist lost to the OG 4th place finisher. All the OG medalist did not win JO title, best is runner up.
So, all the medalist also... not fully fit this JO, do you see the criticism for them is as intense ?? That's what I mean. :D

I did not watch the finals, but a friend commented that LCW employed the wrong tactics against Sony. Sony was thought to be the smarter player by first slowing down the first game with lobs and clears and not allowing LCW to pressure him with his speedy play. Sony seemed to do better with this strategy and it appeared LCW could not match him.
In the second game, my friend said Sony changed tactics and speed up his game instead. LCW was caught in the wrong gear and could catch up and that was probably why he gave up his Japan Open title so easily.
Sony deserves to win more titles after having been in the circuit for such a long dry spell with relatively short periods of success. I hope he will continue to shine for INA. :)

Again, Mas mentality is weak.

The Finals matches were okay. The WS, WD & i heard the MD (couldn't see the livestream) matches were pretty good as they went the distance. But it was refreshing to see many new faces & competing in the Finals.

WYH really doesn't like doing backhand shots, even so far to her left, she chooses overhead forehand.
I watched the WS match and was very amazed that WYH only excecuted one backhand shot - a backhand crosscourt drop.

I was just curious and wonders why:
the final of Japan Open Super Series 2008 didn't attract many spectators.. it was DIFFERENT with final of WTA Tennis tour (Torquay Pan Pacific COmpetition?!) the attendance seats were full..

Perhaps... Because no home reps played in finals?;)
Tennis is more famous than badminton in Japan as well?
I think we'll have to wait for a very long time to watch "Prince of Badminton" anime then.:D
