View Full Version : let's play virtual badminton.
i have an idea. let's play virtual badminton in this forum! we can call out different returns to each other's play. one shot at a time.
i get stuck with always doing the same boring shots and over time, i become predictable to my regular opponents. this is a good way to explore different returns all different situations.
let me start.
doubles games (not mixed), my partner behind me.
"tight low serve towards the T, after service, staying near the T ready to defend".
Canyt 01-21-2001, 07:09 PM I shall push it hard to your left hand alley....a little bit in front of your partner and behind you...who's next!?~
couple more thoughts, let's have some simple rules to the game.
after calling a shot, also post your "anticipation". ie. where will you move and what stance (defense, attack, racket up, etc) are you using. describing the movement of your partner also help. posting your thoughts and what you anticipate your opponents will do is also interesting.
all players can be very good. meaning. can drive, defend and attack well. but you can only call your shots, in other words, you cannot say "smash the shuttle to the ground".
also, if you think someone called a bad return, don't correct the return by replying to the message, instead, reply to the original message with the better return.
that's all, this should be fun!
my partner rush to the alley and lift the bird high to your right side back court. both of us are now on side, ready for the defend.
cooler 01-21-2001, 07:34 PM kwun, i just saw a new beach volleyball video game (2 on 2) on a game website yesterday and want to discuss a new topic here but you beat me to it. Is it possible to write and design badminton video game? It would be neat because we all can play each other without the hassle of tournaments.
haha. i sense a computer game start-up idea brewing!
will the game be real-time and interactive?
problems i see is that badminton is so complex and 3 dimensional, it may be a difficult game to write. how about one with 3D glasses and a racket with 3D sensors? :)
cooler 01-21-2001, 08:24 PM yes, badminton is a complex game, that's why i always wonder if a video game possible for badminton. Since volleyball is now available, i guess badminton could be next. Like any games, the 1st version is stand alone and need not to be perfect. Next version 2 could be real time n interactive. Crazy huh, i'm imaging version 2.0 already!
Jaysee 01-22-2001, 12:01 AM Hm..i have an idea
maybe you could organize the buttons on the keyboard as so
one set of keys: 'soft' or 'hard' shot...ie: at back ...hard shot = clear, soft = drop
at front ....hard shot = lift, soft = net
second set of keys: 'cross' or 'straight'
third set of keys: movement
then you press whatever combo?...i have no idea but it is very primitive as you can all see:....badminton is wonderfully complex hehe ;)
Zclyh3 01-22-2001, 12:35 AM As an avid video gamer, the idea of badminton as a video game always came up to my mind. But considering the 3-D effects, it will definitely be hard to program for. There is in fact an actual badminton game back in the 1980's for the Nintendo Entertainment System. I actually have it on my computer and the position of the camera is side to side as if you were a judge in the middle. In order to make a badminton game, you would definitely have to consider Jaysees idea of soft or hard shot. But considering you would have to incorporate where you want to hit it, this game cannot and I repeat CANNOT be played with the two players in the same room. I would consider this game to be real time and played through the internet. Because if you play in the same room, you see where your oppenent hits. Of course, it is possible that you hit a certain corner and the oppenent can't get it. The players in the game would be in different conditions and movement of the player will dramatically vary. Now, smashing would be another issue because we all know that not everyone can return a smash. This is all I have to say as an gamer. I will post more details when i get more ideas.
Canyt 01-22-2001, 01:21 AM Since I pushed to your backcourt...I'm still in front...my partner ran to the right hand corner and did a straight low drop....seeing and hearing a drop, I still stand in the front with my whole body ready, racquet up...and on my toes...ready to attack or net the next shot...my partner and I are in front back position..
Jaysee 01-22-2001, 06:18 PM Maybe it could be sorta a diablo thing
when you win a match online...you can gain points for power, control, or court movement speed...you can distrubute the points to make a power player, control guy, or a runner or watever in between
that would be pretty intersting =)
this has gotta be the longest rally in badminton history, 3 days and we only made 4 shots. :)
my partner rush to the net and did a flat lift to your backhand rear court. seeing the quality of the lift, i am preparing to go from defense to attack any loose shots. while my partner just started to back up to mid-court for defense again.
