The INA pair made 5 unforced errors and that helped the TPE pair to lead 12-8 now. Hmm.....15-11 now. This could go to rubber-set.

MEN'S SINGLES SF
Hsieh Yu-Hsin [4] vs Andre Kurniawan Tedjono [2] -- a tough match in prospect for Andre and I hope he can reach another Final.

MEN'S DOUBLES SF
Rupesh Kumar/Thomas Sanave [8] vs Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya [2] -- also a potential long match for Fran/Rendra against the experienced Indian pair. I have a feeling experience might just prevail.

WOMEN'S SINGLES SF
Gabriela Banova vs Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari -- both are surprise winners today and it could be a tricky match for Pipin. Let's see whether she can reach her first ever Final in a GP tourney.

WOMEN'S DOUBLES SF
Yuka Hayashi/Yukina Imura vs Meiliana Jauhari/Shendy Puspa Irawati [2] -- the INA pair should have the edge, but, earlier matches in XD might just wear them out.

MIXED DOUBLES SF
Chris Adcock/Gabrielle White vs Fran Kurniawan/Shendy Puspa Irawati [5] -- the TPE pair is the biggest stumbling block to a first-ever GP title for Fran/Shendy. I think they should beat the ENG pair.

V. Diju/Jwalla Gutta vs Rendra Wijaya/Meiliana Jauhari [6] -- Rendra/Mel also did a good job today in beating another TPE pair. So, another rematch against the IND pair which they lost to narrowly last week. I hope they can avenge the loss to set up an all-INA Final.

The home support was crucial and helped Petya a lot. It was 7:0 for Aditi in the first game, so Petya lost it, though she was playing well to the end of that part. I believe the crowd really inspired her and made Aditi nervous and out of concentration and balance. Petya got an yellow card, becouse of couching during game (or something).

And about the Persson -- Lee match -- it was fantastic :D
The crowd was for Persson ofcourse. And he won afterall (breaking strings two times, by the way).

Tommorow -- I am there for sure:)

Yes, Good Luck to Fran, Rendra, Shendy, Mel and Rosaria.

However, Petya, Joachim, Mathias, Carsten are all playing well. And from IND, Diju, Gutta and Kurian will be putting a challenge to the INA Mixed and Womens Doubles pairs too.

MS: Joachim

MEN'S SINGLES
Joachim Persson [1] vs Hsieh Yu-Hsin [4] -- I expect Joachim to prevail in another 3-setter.

MEN'S DOUBLES
Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen [1] vs Fran Kurniawan/Rendra Wijaya [2] -- likewise, Djarum pairs always have problems beating Boe/Mogensen. I think the Danes will walk away with 2 titles today.

WOMEN'S SINGLES
Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari vs Petya Nedeltcheva [2] -- Pipin's luck brought her to her first Final but she has a hard task today. Petya has the edge.

WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Jwalla Gutta/Shruti Kurian vs Meiliana Jauhari/Shendy Puspa Irawati [2] -- a tough match in prospect for both doubles against the Indian pairs. I hope Mel/Shendy can beat the Indian.

MIXED DOUBLES
Fran Kurniawan/Shendy Puspa Irawati [1] vs V. Diju/Jwalla Gutta -- hopefully, Fran/Shendy can put up their best performance and win their first GP title before returning to Pelatnas.

very cosmopolitan final.....if 1 country could get each one title......i cant recall.....when was the last time that happening in tourneys?...

Nope it won't happen... INA will bring 2 home, DEN also will get 2... ;)

It is true regarding Fran-Shendy. Pelatnas will also recruit and most likely keep Mel-Shendy pair... also, Rendra-Alvent will be featured later on this year... ;) Fran will most likely be a XD specialist, like Nova today... :D

From the Hindustan Times:

In January 2007, when the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) asked V. Diju to play with Aparna Balan instead of Jwala Gutta in the Patna Nationals, Jwala could not hide her anger and lashed out at the powers that be.

The PSPB was merely acting on the Badminton Association of India's diktat that only those players attending the national elite camp could team up and since Jwala had opted out, she had to make way for Balan.

The bitterness of wasting almost a year still rankles Jwala but the pair is now looking to resurrect the career path. On Sunday, Diju and Jwala sent out a strong message by coming the first Indian combination to win a Grand Prix title, the $50,000 Bitburger Open in Saarbruken, Germany.

What makes the achievement all the more special is that they hardly trained together before the event. "We had a couple of sessions in Hyderabad and then a day here before the tournament," Jwala said from Saarbruken.

Diju also credited the on-court chemistry for the triumph and added they were looking to break into the top-30 by the end of the year. The pair is currently ranked 80th in the world and the Saarbrucken win should catapult them to 54th when the new rankings are released on Thursday.

"We are playing four more tournaments after this — the Bulgaria Open, Dutch Open and Denmark and French Super Series — and I am confident we can achieve our goal," Diju added.

Uncertain period

The combination's future looked bleak after the BAI decision to force elite camp members to pair up among themselves. Diju and Balan played together for about 11 months but they failed to click and Diju approached BAI to allow him to play with Jwala in December last.

The reigning national champions then made a winning comeback to the international scene with the India International title in Guwahati. But even after that they played just three tournaments as Diju was looking to rebuild his men's doubles career with new partner Akshay Dewalkar.

On his part, decided to team up with Jishnu Sanyal, his partner in the junior circuit, leaving Diju in the lurch.

It was only then that Diju decided to take part in the European circuit at his own cost and teamed up with Jwala. The pair, which played a key role in helping India clinch team bronze in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, struck gold immediately.

Challenges ahead

Asked about his plans for men's doubles, Diju said he would prefer to concentrate on mixed doubles till November. "I haven't even thought about whom I will partner for the coming domestic season.

"But whoever I team up with, I will give equal importance to mixed doubles since Gopi (national coach Pullela Gopichand) has given us the go ahead to play together despite Jwala not joining the camp," he added.

Though BAI still does not extend monetary support to those opting out of the elite camp, it has allowed the players to play at their own cost and Diju and Jwala don't mind loosening their purse strings to set a new landmark in Indian badminton.

Bear in mind that the INA pairs are likely to face V. Diju/Jwala Gutta YET AGAIN in the Yonex Dutch Open next week, after they beat the Chinese-Taipei pairs.

Rendra Wijaya/Meiliana Jauhari, playing in their last time (at the moment) as Djarum pair will face Chen Hong-Ling/Chou Chia-Chi in R16 and then very possibly this Indian pair V. Diju/Jwala Gutta in the SF.

Fran Kurniawan/Shendy Puspa Irawati will also face Hsieh Yu-Hsin/Chien Yu-Chin in the SF of the Yonex Dutch Open, and then either Rendra/Mel, the Indian pair, or Chen/Chou in the Final (if they can beat the TPE pair).

Meanwhile, Fran Kurniawan/Shendy Puspa Irawati lost in a closely fought battle to the in-form Indian pair V. Diju/Jwala Gutta in rubber-sets: 21-15, 18-21, 19-21. The Indian pair has beaten Fran/Rendra twice and now Fran/Shendy over the space of 8 days. All 3 matches were evenly fought.

Petya won without much troubles -- not much resistance from Rosaria.

The XD was really interesting -- with a lot of twists. Both couples were making unforced errors, but on turns:D I am really impressed of the girl from India -- she can smash really hard.

About MS: Persson had his chances in the first game (6 -- 11 and then 17 --17), but Hsien managed to trick him with short backhand serve, flying actually high (not very high). This deceiving serve worked two times, but enough so Hsien can take the first game. Persson claimed serving above the waist, but the judje said it is O.K.
And after losing the first game, he become really motivated :D

Yes. SWBTC is located in the "Borisova Gradina" park -- it is near the centre of the city and close to the diplomatic district. All the professional and some of the amateur players train there, but only from late Mart to the begining of December, because the hall is property of the Tennis Federation and they can't play outdoor when it is cold. So, during winter the professional players go to a school gym at the end of Sofia, where only few amateur players are allowed. Other amatuers have some other options -- there are other gyms -- not as good, but acceptable for the winter :)
