We could try to summarise here for you the SSF rules: .
thank you for this effort. I am still pretty weak about these determinations as soon as im too less time here around. But any way and any time there are human who make these rules. That's no automatic.
I mean every good rule has inside reason. Why exactly 12? Why exactly 8? and so on. I believe there are such reasons here also.
But the problem is these rules sound too automatic. You may be the God of the year but you don't reach 0.00001 % of point and you're out :)
I exaggerate with a clear tipoff)
What is a goal of SSF founders? TO make good tournament? TO follow the rules? TO be the best competitors interest in the year? To be the academic institution with academic approaches?
Just after knowing an answer for these questions one can answer if these rules made perfect.
Currently, with absence of plenty main players, this tournament looks not really interesting. :o

dassad ... From what I see, Badminton is trying to follow/copy Tennis. The 'Masters Series' in Tennis is quite popular, so BWF says 'Let call ours The Super Series'. :):):)
Fortunately for Tennis players, they have become real independent professional players from way back (in the 1960's).
In Badminton, we are yet to have real 'Independent Professional Players'. In fact, the so-called 'Professional Players' as placed in our Badminton Central Forum should not be called so, but be called 'National Associations Players'.
What I am saying is... 'Independent Professional Players' make decisions to enter tournaments by themselves, whereas 'National Associations Players' are subjects of their National Team Managements' decisions.
I am not saying that the system in Badminton is not as good as in Tennis. But I am saying that the SS Format in Badminton might not achieve what it hopes to achieve, until when we can have real 'Independent Professional Badminton Players'.

1st part .... Because no city wanted and/or could afford to hold the 2007 SSF
2nd part ... The World Top 32 ranked players interested in participating: click here (http://www.internationalbadminton.org/super.html)

Let me emphasize again and again in previous replies....BWF did not have sponsor.....Jakarta has money to host as well as Singapore...There is NO MONEY and SPONSOR for 2007 SSF...Period!!! I do not understand why you keep defending BWF as they have admitted there was no sponsor....

chris@ccc always had a different notion of management and responsibility... For him, BWF seems to not be responsible for many things and somehow appear more competent in his eyes than they really are...

.
huangkwokhau ... In 2007, I was told that BWF have the US$5000,000 prize money but no city would/could afford to host the SSF.
It has never been my intention to defend the BWF.
In fact, I have criticised the BWF:
for not sharing money raised to help cities wishing to stage the SSF,
for not using money raised to implement the 'Hawk-Eye' to help in lines judging,
for not investigating 'Match Fixing' when they are obvious,
etc......
The things that I have praised the BWF have been:
for the introduction of the Super Series to create more interests amongst Badminton fans,
for the introduction of the 'Rally Point Scoring" to make Badminton more 'Television Friendly',
for providing assistance to countries where Badminton is not popular, like starting Badminton coaching centres there and buying equipments for them,
etc......
It has been great that Badminton Central has provided us a forum to discuss many things, to promote Badminton to everybody, and to make Badminton a popular sport in the future.
Most Important: Let us do our little part to help make Badminton great to play and to watch.

In that case, the source of your information was wrong ;)
Apparently, there are many cities (as listed by Hau-Ge) who could afford to host the Super Series Final. But, BWF, for some reason, decided to not to choose among any one of those. So, it has to be the sponsorship issue :o Because, if money wasn't the issue, BWF could just choose to hold it in those countries who are more than willing to host the event.
Personally, I don't think BWF have that kind of money. Yonex-Sunrise has been one of its biggest sponsors and this time round, they come out with the sponsorship,

Yup, chris@ccc have been misled and also have misguided thoughts... The BWF situation regarding SS Finals is clear for some of us. But not so clear to him even after so many explanations. Just leave him with his own thoughts. It is his right to choose to be misled and misguided...

In tennis, they play as individuals(who happen to be from the same country) and real matches.
In badminton, the players report to their BA (or head coach) not BWF.If there are no two per country rule, LYB may apply his famous strategy and you get unreal matches like what you saw in OG08 SF match between CJ and LD where both got to conserve energy for their medal matches while their opponents, LCW and LHI used up all their energy to win.The result was two fresher CHN MS playing non-CHN MS in subsequent matches.
I wouldn't be surprised if this two per country rule were imposed for OG12.
If CHN decides not to send their qualified players to SSF, it means they are not confident of winning titles when CHN has no opportunity to apply their unique strategy and undue advantage.
I have no problems with more players from the same country if they can play as individuals...
However, note that CHn's not the only country affected by the rule.In the present and future, it's likely to be MAS, INA and DEN...
1.are the players in tennis report to ATP or WTA or ITF ????
i think it's no either....what's the advantage to report to BWF or ATP or WTA or ITF??????
2. it's very easy for you to forget their real matches before Semi Final and u just remember the semifinal matches
3.LOL,, it should be like this: Another country worried that China will dominate the tournament so BWF made the rule to prevent China from dominating this sport and make this sport more popular,,,, SO the one who are not Confident of winning the tittle should not be CHINA,,,,
4. Chinawass the most affected country by this rules....
PS: i'm sorry but it seems that u always doubt about Chinese players abillity of winning the matches and always think about conspiracy in China team,, meanwhile u TOTALLY forget how the Chinese players PRACTICE so HARD to produce a good result... i can say even HARDER than your idol...

Well, 2007 was the BWF political-infighting year between the President and the ex-Deputy, only resolved middle of this year ..... so no wonder BWF didn't concentrate too much on finding sponsors for Super Series last year.

badMania ... While following the development (and the eventual failure) of last year's 2007 SSF, it was mentioned that only 2 cities, Doha in Qatar, and Alor Star in Malaysia, showed interest in holding it. And SMP was to finance the US$500,000.00 in prize money.
Yesterday's post, huangkwokhau mentioned that Jakarta and Singapore also wanted to host the SSF last year, but were turned down. I was shocked because the intentions of these 2 cities were not released at Badminton Central (perhaps I missed that post) and/or by BWF.
I am only interested to see that the SSF can be staged annually. And I believe for it to happen, we need all parties, BWF, National Associations, Sponsors, Host Cities, etc... to work together.
If we are to suggest anything here at Badminton Central without speaking out to our National Associations, then nothing would happen. If our National Associations are not relaying our concerns to BWF, then we should sack them. And if BWF is not listening to National Associations, then it's time to sack BWF too.
It's better not to fight and/or to criticise one another but to give a hand to resolve the situation.

Yes, because I am still thinking that BWF could offer the US$500,000.00 for the 2007 SSF prize money, but no city (or National Association) could manage to raise enough money for themselves to stage it.
Or is it the other way around?:confused::confused:

Erm.. according to a news from Sina, high probability they are not coming because they have to move house. Their current condo(on north side) have to renovate, so they have to move to the condo on south. They had also changed their plan. On 20 Dec, they are not going to Chengdu for Winter training, the training will be postponed until after Chinese New Year. So now, they will be having the training in Beijing.

Not sure which link you're reading, the one I read only mentioned the condo renovation is going to be done ahead of schedule so they like to move in completely before the Chinese New Year(late January) hence the original training schedule will be delayed about one month and will be a shorter training.
If that's the case then I would think the chance for the players to attend the 2008 Super Series Final, 2009 Malaysia and Korea Opens should be greatly enhance? My Chinese may be a bit rusty so someone please read this link and verify my interpretation.

Thanks Suetyan. It will be unwise if Chinese coaching staff decided not to let players participate in SS Final. This is an easy money for the Chinese players and I really don't think it will affect their training schedule and furthermore, it's for the good of badminton sports.
Anyway, we will find out in 2 days ...

yalor, but I think the power is still in the hand of their head coach :D Even though they may want to win the huge money (as you mention it is an easy money for them), but if the head coach say 'NO' they also can't do anything, haha...

More $$$ for doubles
11 December 2008
Pix by BadmintonPhoto
IN a historic first, winners in the doubles events will receive a higher total prize money than players in the singles field.
Endorsed at the recent Badminton World Federation Council meeting in Seoul, Korea, winners of the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles will receive a prize purse of US$42,000 for each pair, working out to US$21,000 for each player.
http://www.badmintoninternational.net/NewsEditor/Data/817-limpele_poliismall.jpgIn contrast, winners of the men’s singles and women’s singles will pocket US$40,000 each.
The prize money distribution proposal for the YONEX-Sunrise BWF World Super Series Masters Finals 2008 was put forward by the Events Committee and endorsed unanimously by the Council on 6 December 2008.
In fact, all eight qualifiers for the Super Series Finals will receive a share of the prize money with the quarter-finalists earning US$4,500 each (singles) and US$5,000 each pair.
The total prize money for the YONEX-Sunrise BWF Super Series Masters Finals 2008 is US$500,000 with the top eight players in the Super Series ranking invited for the tournament.
The tournament, which will be played at the Likas Indoor Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, does not offer any world ranking points. The tournament runs from 18 to 21 December.

I am not looking down at others, but with their present here in KK, they surely add spices & colours to the game. Don't you think so????

In SO08,our tournament had no CHN MS or MD or WS(?) present. The tournament was just as successful and worth every $ we paid for. In any tournament, there will be some great matches and boring ones. How great were the MS matches in HKO08 without LCW's presence?
LD played better than LCW in CHN territories if their 2008 matches were any indication. That's why CHN's opting out of MO09 and KO09, not just SSF.I don't expect LD to turn up for SO09 or IO09 either.Has LD ever won in IO,MO or SO? Nearly.

Man, I can't believe this...
Almost all your posts I've seen so far always blast Malaysia, be it the people, policy, and their shuttlers.
I'm afraid I cannot defend you, my fellow countryman, in case you are attacked by Malaysian BCers or face banning threat because of this post. Since you are not worth defending, that is.
Good luck. :(

No, she has not withdrawn from the event.
She has now been issued the passport.
However, she still needs a Malaysian visa.

Looking at the names of the qualifiers, Team INA has a high chance to win the XD title, with Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir and Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa among the 8 pairs. The withdrawal of KOR and CHN pairs means that the main challenge will come from Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl, Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg, and Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thoungthongkam.
The dark horse from MAS Lim Khim Wah/Wong Pei Tty may also pose a threat, given their good performances against the Olympics Champions recently. The other 2 pairs: Songphon Anugritayawon/Kunchala Voravichitchaikul and Robert Blair/Imogen Bankier should be manageable.
As for WD, Wong Pei Tty/Chin Ee Hui, Kamilla Rytter-Juhl/Lena Frier-Kristensen and Ha Jung Eun/Kim Min Jung will be the title contenders alongside Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir. Jo Novita/Greysia Polii can play the role of party poopers as they have the capability to defeat the Danes and Korean as well.

Learning that this LD chap is not in SSF (otherwise TH could get kick again by LD and a pretty big licking too cos' TH has been losing 2 straights to LD lately and one more boot kick would really kick confidence, ego and moral) TH ponders  and walla!! I gotta chance to win this SSF thingie cos I can beat this LCW fella and playing in MAS is like playing at home with MAS crowd liking TH too...win SSF would get good $$$dough, a championship medal or trophy (consider that winnning anything with this LD chap lurking around is tough business) to show his daugther and gain one-up on LD who does not have a SSF championship trophy...yet!!...that is my take on TH joining in, albeit a mischievous one:p:D

Badminton: Pei Tty treads with caution to avoid double trouble
KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Wong Pei Tty has a chance to make it a double joy for Malaysia in the Super Series Masters Finals. But she does not wish to count the chicken before they are hatched.
Although it will be more taxing playing in two events, Pei Tty is looking forward to having a good time in the competitions with Chin Eei Hui in the women’s doubles and with Lim Khim Wah in the mixed doubles.
Her participation with youngster Khim Wah, who were the 20th ranked pair in the Super Series mixed doubles standings, was confirmed just three days ago.
The 27-year-old Pei Tty admitted that it would be tougher in the mixed doubles.
“I was surprised when I found out a few days ago that Khim Wah and I would get to compete in the mixed doubles. This gives us another opportunity to work out on our partnership,” said Pei Tty.
The duo teamed up last April and their best finish thus far was a semi-final appearance in the Thailand Open.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/12/16/sports/p62-peitty.JPG
“Khim Wah is a very hard working player but he lacks experience,” said Pei Tty, whose best achievement in mixed doubles was a bronze medal-winning effort with Koo Kien Keat in the 2006 World Championships in Madrid.
“We will be the underdogs at the Masters Finals but we will try to give the others good fights. Hopefully, we will get better in every tournament.”
The favourite for the Masters Finals mixed doubles title are world number one Nova Widianto-Lilyana Natsir of Indonesia.
In the women’s doubles, Pei Tty-Eei Hui are the top seeds. And in the absence of China’s Du Jing-Yu Yang and Zhao Yunlei-Cheng Shu, they have a good chance to continue with their good run on the international stage.
Pei Tty, who has been on a roll with Eei Hui since winning the Danish Open title in October, however, chose not to be over-confident. They had also finished as the runners-up in the French and China Opens.
“Eei Hui and I want to continue with our good feeling in the international tournaments. There will be no pair from China but it will not be easy either against those from Indonesia and South Korea,” she said.
The Indonesians in the fray are Lilyana-Vita Marissa and Jo Novita-Greysia Polii. The South Korean qualifiers are Ha Jung-eun-Kim Min-jung.
