I used to have a friend who bends his racket all the time. It was a bad habit of his. While he is waiting on the court, he would use his non racket hand and start pulling back on the head of the racket. He did it one time too many over the past year he played and his racket snapped.

hehe

Well getting onto the serious part, I was wondering if you can bend your racket before you hit a backhand close to your body or if u are using the pan handle grip for more power.

What I mean is:

1st- hold the racket in the pan handle or backhand position

2nd- using the non racket hand, pull back a little on the head of the racket (Not so much that the stem will start bending). Your Finger or the skin should start bending back a little as there is more force on your finger.

3rd- Release the non racket hand as you swing at the birdy.

I was thinking would this extra built up force add a little more power into the shot like how the potential energy shoots an arrow.

Or a rock or stick is propelled by the rubber band of a slingshot.

Maybe this can be used to add a bit more power and speed to those angle shots like net drops if it works.

Comments, Discussions, Critiques, and laughs are always are welcome

tonten,

don't waste your energy on such fancy stuff. work on your basic technique, it will be much more rewarding.

not to mention the fact that you wouldn't be able to generate much power by simply bending your racquet back with your hand....

I had a friend who used to do this all the time.

(I've met alot of people playing badminton over the years)

For drop shops and angle shots, he says that he gets more control and aim from doing this.

It looks funny and confusing too.

My friend stopped playing a year ago

Because a whole new batch of kids started showing up at the community center.

When I first started playing with some of my friends, we did this, and I was thinking now that it would be fun to somehow incorporate this into our regular swings just for show and fun.

I go to Riley Park Community Center on Fridays (It's a couple of blocks away from VRC). It's always full with kids from the locale highschool, Tupper.

No pictures!!!

Tonten,

You guys have too much time to experiment :D . Now, why do you want to bend the head with your other hand? As you swing your racquet, the shaft is momentarily bent anyway. On another note, these type of "fancy strokes" is useless at a more competitive level. The badders move fast enough to overwhelm shots from such strokes. Just my 2 cents.

Or you gonna get people like Pete who comes and examines your raquet and freak you out by telling you the raquet looks WARPED :D :D :D

Personally I do not see any benefit to this. If you get a good backhand technique you'll be fine.
But if it is just for a bit of fun it can't hurt. Brian Lara's batting technique is fully improvised and look how good he was ;) Maybe it'll work for you.
