CHN and KOR will only meet in finale as top-seed and second seed respectively. So the possible scenario for semifinal : CHN >< MAS/INA and SIN/IND >< KOR.
Seeding Position :
China -- top-seed
South Korea -- second seed
Singapore -- 3/4
Malaysia -- 3/4
Japan -- 5/8
Indonesia -- 5/8
Thailand -- 5/8
India -- 5/8

Singapore is seeded above INA?!?  Fine!!! We'll see the final facts later!
etudiant 10-12-2008, 02:06 AM at first...i thought is that true that ina was 6th seeded...but lets see if that reflects on the final result....anyway when will the individual draw be released?....
hcyong 10-12-2008, 02:52 AM Singapore is seeded above INA?!?  Fine!!! We'll see the final facts later!
Don't get too worked up about it. Seedings are based on hard cold results. There is no intended bias there.
But hard cold results, especially at the junior level, may not reflect actual strength. This is what INA is out to prove.
Sandy 10-12-2008, 06:45 AM Tough draw in top half draw
Thailand had good results in junior lately, it's pity they placed in same group with CHN
Sandy 10-12-2008, 06:55 AM Still guessing who is in INA's squad after see some U-19 Pelatnas players play in local tournament, Tangkas Alfamart. It's mean they won't play in Pune.
Nimas Rani, Budi Hartono also club players Mazziyah Nadhir and Hera Desi
I believe
MS : Adi Pratama, Engga Setiawan, Ari Trisnanto, Evert Sukamta
still unknown
WS : Febby Angguni, Siti Anida, Ana Rovita still unknown one player probably Ayu Pratiwi or Pelatnas player who born in 1990, Alfa ?
WD : Anneke Feinya, Annisa Wahyuni, Jenna Gozali, don't know one Weny Setiawati ?
MD : Rendi Sugiharto guessed paired with M. Ulinnuha (if Budi Hartono didn't selected), Kevin Alexander/Angga Pratama
XD : some combinatio of WD & MD

Oh...ok...I missed the XD part. I think Ulin/Jenna is a good pairing. I am quite excited of their prospect and possible promotion as one of Djarum's main XD pairs to be sent for tourneys starting next year, since Fran/Shendy and Rendra/Mel are all back to Pelatnas after the Dutch Open this week.
I thought Ulin is paired with Berry Angriawan in Djarum??? They won quite a number of national circuit titles.

Does anyone know why Denmark is not participating?

Last year they competed in individual only and didn't compete in team.
It was their strategy, we saw the "crazy" schedule on individual with big number of participant in last year.

It doesn't mean it and we can't judge the age of the player just watch it without any test.
Surprised for my mind, I followed some INA Junior players and for long time thaught that she was born 1989

..so it's off by 1 yr..Or, even if she was born in 1989, maybe her (19th)birthday won't come til after this WJC; thus, she still qualifies as she is still 18 yrs young..Then one could say: lucky gal;)

from the resource, Linda Weni was born in January 18, 1990 (so the limit cut off is the players who born in 1990 or above)

In the past I found the player who registry in 17 or 18 y.o but he/she already in 2nd year in university, very questionable.

..ah well, there goes her chance (although she couldn't qualify anyway, since she just turned 19). Although, IMO, that's a strange way of ruling out someone's eligibility, based on birth date.....

event ... The seedings of participants in the Draw for the Individual Events will come from the players' performances observed in the Team Events. It is one of the ways to rank/seed some unknown players.
I thought it's a good idea, although some have disagreed with it.

Singles seen as weak link in mixed badminton team event
KUALA LUMPUR: The singles players are expected to be the weak link for Malaysia in their quest for honours in the mixed team event of the World Junior Badminton Championships, which begins today in Pune, India.
But debutant Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin is not ready to throw in the towel although China and South Korea have better singles players in their ranks.
In fact, the 17-year-old Iskandar is hoping that his first world junior meet would be the launching pad for a greater journey ahead in his badminton career.
Iskandar is one of the four boys’ singles players in the Malaysian team. The others are Mohd Syawal Mohd Ismail, Kuan Kam Chung and Goh Soon Huat.
“This is my first world junior meet and I am looking forward to giving it my best,” said the Asean Schools boys’ singles champion.
“The real challenge will come when we are up against players from China and South Korea.
“But this is an opportunity for the singles players to justify our selection by the coaches.”
On paper, Malaysia’s strength lies in the doubles department.
This was evident at this year’s Asian Junior Championships in Kuala Lumpur when Malaysia bagged the boys’ doubles title through Mak Hee Chun-Teo Kok Siang while the girls’ and mixed doubles players performed creditably.
At the world junior meet in Auckland last year, Malaysia suffered a shock defeat to Singapore in the quarter-finals of the mixed team event.
But they made amends by bagging one individual title through Lim Khim Wah-Ng Hui Lin in the mixed doubles.
This year, Malaysia are the fourth seeds and are in Group X1 with the Czech Republic and Germany. In the quarter-finals, they are expected to play against Indonesia, who are in Group X2.
If Malaysia make the semi-finals, they are set to face top seeds China, who are in Group W

ctjcad 10-24-2008, 11:16 PM ..and that was 8 yrs ago, which means LCW was only 18 yrs young. Let's see who'll represent in the MS' Semifinals this yr. Will there be a M'sian player representing in the Semis??..;)

If i remember right, BCL beat LD in the final. Sony and LCW were semifinalists.
That's the best WJC year though. Subsequent years have not produced the same calibre of players (except Chen Jin -WJC 2004, i think).
