View Full Version : HK Open info questions
pascal123 10-12-2008, 07:10 AM Hello, this is the 2nd year since I started playing badminton and have been following closely the tournaments (actually taufik hidayat) since this year. Really want to go see some world-class badminton here in the coming up Hong Kong Open.
I read in another thread that the info about HK Open comes out around in October, and I am waiting for that to come out.
I also read from ppl here in badmintoncentral that there are yonex booths during HK Open in QE stadium. I want to ask,
1.Are the rackets cheaper at the booths?
2.Are the booths open to public or do you need to have a HK Open ticket to visit the booths?
Thanks.
Ar Dan 10-12-2008, 11:54 AM the racket prices are actually slightly higher than shop prices, but you'll get exta items like bags and water bottle, the rackets are strung using the Yonex Electronic stringing machines.
Ar Dan 10-12-2008, 11:55 AM You'll need to purchase the tickets for the HK Open in order to visit the Yonex booth.
pascal123 10-12-2008, 05:00 PM Thanks, thought it would be cheaper at the booths. Guess I have to window-shop the booths if I do go to the HK Open.
scherzando 10-13-2008, 06:38 AM What about shoes, shirts, etc..? The whole apparel. They got everything there?
huangkwokhau 10-13-2008, 06:47 AM What about shoes, shirts, etc..? The whole apparel. They got everything there?
They always do..............dont worry! ticket for semi and final are not easy to get
pascal123 10-13-2008, 07:18 AM Ooops, I initially just want to go to the final. Now you say that the tickets for final and semi-finals are hard to get, I guess I should mentally prepare to settle with just a quarter-final ticket. But then, there would be more players to see in quarter-final. And Taufik would most probably be still surviving in quarter-finals, and most important of all, if Dec 2 is the final, Nov 30 is the quarter-final and it is SUNDAY on that day!
Anyway, any tips for buying tickets? Do you have to wait overnight outside the ticket office?
And for quarterfinals, if 3 matches are currently going on on 3 separate courts, and I am designated to sit at a particular seat near court 1, but I want to watch court 3, is it possible for me to leave my seat and stand somewhere? (My another query in my mind is if QE stadium is that large to have 3 courts at the same time?)
ctjcad 10-13-2008, 02:48 PM ..to answer your last query (about how many courts will it accommodate?), you can browse around in this link and maybe find the answer (from last yr's HK Open);):
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=210
And yes, if you by any chance decide to go and watch the HK Open, keep an eye for a possible BC get-together. See the other thread in this sub-forum/section.

The qualification will start on Monday evening and main draw will start on Monday.
Information and Ticketing will be ready around end of October...( the could not tell me the exact date)..you can buy it on line, I believe..if not you can call ticketing hotline and reserve the tickets..
QE stadium is not large, quite small..I think they can accomodate only 3000 spectators...
scherzando 10-14-2008, 12:36 AM Chris, can't really find infos about tickets and courts and stuff on last year's threads.. (or I'm just being too lazy) :p
Could we purhase the SF/F tickets online beforehand?
ctjcad 10-14-2008, 12:51 AM ..of this yr's HK Open??*looks around*..http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/23.gif:confused:...Don't look at me, young lady..http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/114.gif
Btw, the ticketing info thread, from last yr, can be found in the 2nd page of the link above>>see last thread at the bottom of the page...;)
And the pics of the no. courts can be seen in the pictures thread..;)
pascal123 10-14-2008, 05:57 AM I have looked at the pictures from the HK Open 2007 thread. What a festival! I am not quite sure, but there should be a maximum of 3 courts at the same time. Thanks guys.
scherzando 10-15-2008, 09:42 AM Lol. Sorry there, Chris.. :p
Cheung 10-16-2008, 06:03 AM I found some information on another discussion forum.
here (http://www28.discuss.com.hk/viewthread.php?tid=8299725&extra=page%3D1&page=10) - scroll halfway down.
I don't know about the ticketing information i.e. how to get a ticket.
Cheung 10-16-2008, 06:16 AM Ooops, I initially just want to go to the final. Now you say that the tickets for final and semi-finals are hard to get, I guess I should mentally prepare to settle with just a quarter-final ticket. I always think the QF is the best day in the HK Open. There will be two courts so if you have a boring match on one, you can look at the other! The stadium is not that large
Before the QF, there will be 3 courts. If you go to the daytime sessions, then there are few people and you can walk around to get closer to any of the courts in the same ticketing zone. This will be at the discretion of the stewards. At night, more people attend and it becomes much stricter so you probably will be asked to move back to your original seat.
QF day becomes 2 courts. More difficult to move around the arena because more people attend. Night time will be very busy - probably difficult to get the evening ticket unless you buy before the tournament. Last year, Taufik was playing Lin Dan in the evening so that session was absolutely packed.
SF day goes down to one court. 5 matches played in each session, with 2 sessions in the day. For SF and F, tickets are hard to get - usually sold out before the tournament.
pascal123 10-16-2008, 07:46 AM Thanks Cheung for the details about the tournament. I guess I would go to the quarter-final at night. I guess the organizer would arrange the most-anticipated players to play at night. Or maybe I would go to both afternoon and night sessions of quarter-final. To me, seeing more players play is better than watching just the final, as the level of play doesn't differ too mcuh, when compared to quarter-final.
Ar Dan 10-16-2008, 07:52 AM make sure you buy the tickets online early...
pascal123 10-16-2008, 07:53 AM And if I buy the cheapest ticket of quarter-final (HK$60), would you guys give a comment like 'you'd better not go at all, as you won't be able to see anything clearly'. Is QE small enough to make the view of the cheapest seat acceptable or even enjoyable?
pascal123 10-16-2008, 07:55 AM make sure you buy the tickets online early...
Thanks, problem is I don't have a credit card. Maybe I have to find a way to get around this problem. Go queue overnight maybe, haha.
scherzando 10-19-2008, 06:11 PM Some basic info already available here (http://www.hkbadmintonassn.org.hk/eng/hkopen07.htm)..
Yea I'm wondering about the cheapest ticket stuff also.. Would I be sitting waaay back and wouldn't be able to see a thing or is it still okay?
pascal123 10-20-2008, 05:29 AM Hey I think I non-intentionally found out the answer to the cheapest ticket problem. Go see this video on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCCPX6dnHKs ,it's the HK Open 2007, at 4:27 onwards for a few seconds, and at 6:11, you would notice the highest row of spectators isn't too far away from the court. Do you think so too?

604badder 10-21-2008, 01:42 AM Hmm... are there seating plans for the venue anywhere? From the website it wasn't clear how the prices mapped to seats.
I'm going to be HK luckily during that week and am wondering if it's worth it getting the cheap seats and taking in some of the games.
Tips anyone?

Cheung 10-21-2008, 11:30 AM The cheap seats are the first to be sold out!
Also the cheapest seats are the ones that are furthest away from the court.
Actually, that stadium only holds 3000 seats. So, you can still get very acceptable views from the cheap seats.
I would also say that if you 'happened' to be in HK coincidently, then get yourself down to the arena because you never know when your next chance may turn up....
ctjcad 10-21-2008, 02:26 PM ..shopping spree invitation, Cheung??..All those electronic gadget stores (in Kowloon area) & clothing stores (Tung Choi street/Women Street/Ladies Market) are waiting for customers, ya know??..;)http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/39.gif...Gotta bring them souvenirs back home, right??...

YES.........I will be there.......most of INA players are coming with no coaches....except Djarum club's players...
z3048018 11-04-2008, 08:38 AM guess you will be there from the first day?
u-niCe 11-04-2008, 08:32 PM The purchasing of tickets online stressed me out completely! >.< There was a limit of 15 mins for each transaction and I had 9 tickets to buy! I only managed to complete my purchase on my second attempt. :crying:A lot of tickets for the finals were sold out as well!
Eeks. I was so traumatised. But I'm glad I got the tickets eventually. :D
scherzando 11-05-2008, 08:47 AM Just purchased tickets for the 26th and 28th.. But the thing is, since it's gonna be delivered to my house (Indonesia), is it going to arrive on time? I'm gonna call them tomorrow.. This is frustrating. Many has been sold out!! >.<
z3048018 11-05-2008, 10:23 AM my friend went and bought his yesterday morning and lined up 5th. he didn't get the ticket he wanted...apparently this year is quite hard to buy for some particular reason...
Ar Dan 11-05-2008, 06:18 PM Just purchased my tickets for the Quarter-Finals online at www.urbtix.com (http://www.urbtix.com)
For those of you still looking to buy tickets, the Finals are sold out and Semi-Finals is close to sold out.
pascal123 11-05-2008, 07:06 PM When I went to the box office 2 hours after the ticket sale began, all finals tickets were sold out. And indeed, the cheap tickets of other days got all sold out. Anyway, I am happy with my quarter-final night ticket. Hope to have fun on that day watching the pros play.
pascal123 11-05-2008, 07:17 PM Ar, and nice to hear the INA players are coming even if they have to pay for themselves. In fact, what is the attraction to the HKO for the INA players? 'Cause HK is not too far away? Prize money? The chance to compete with chinese players as we don't see chinese players joining super series matches much after olympics? Or is it a routine to play in HKO so they just can't miss it?
scherzando 11-05-2008, 11:32 PM I still can't believe how fast they sell out. I even had to buy the more expensive one for the QF because the cheap ones are sold out already! ;p
