Anything wrong with him? modious 06-29-2002, 04:18 AM Conspiracy perhaps?? I mean, James even THRASHED Wong Choon Hann the day before.... Perhaps Malaysia trying to increase his ranking! It's happy to see Lee Tsuen Seng win Xia Xuanze, but on the other hand... I hope Wong Choong Hann would be in the semifinal against Xia Xuanze, and this time, Wong Choong Hann wins him for the 1st time... Chong Tan Fook and Chang Kim Wai nauknip 06-30-2002, 01:55 PM Well, Wong Choong Hann wasn't playing well that night. He was making a lot of errors. He said in an interciew afterwards that he wasn't well-prepared for this tournament after reaching the peak at the TC Finals last month. Anyway James Chua has a reputation of playing well against fellow teammates. If you noticed, besides the 1st round, all his opponents are Malaysians, which makes it less surprising that he could scalp the top 3 shuttlers in the team - Wong Choong Hann, Lee Tsuen Seng and Ong Ewe Hock - consecutively to claim the title. That Thursday night was too full of upsets for one to bear. First, it was the crashing out of Wong Choong Hann in a relatively quick match. Next, after a long battle, we saw the downfall of Xia Xuanze in the hands of Lee Tsuen Seng. He really could have levelled it in the 2nd match when leading at 14-7. What a pity. After this, Lin Dan, who had been having long and tiring matches so far, again fought hard but lost to Ong Ewe Hock. All the top seeds in the MS crashed out one after another. No revenge for Bao over Hafiz, and no chance for Wong to overcome his jinx in Xia. That's not all. While the crowd was busy cheering Lee TS on, and getting surprised over James Chua's performance, few noticed the other exciting match going on on the court next to Xia/Lee's. The match between Camilla Martin and Sujitra E. was very exciting as well. Sujitra was real close to creating yet another upset. Credits to Camilla though. So we think it's over. The worst (at least to me) is yet to come. The singles matches were all so close they took really long to end. By the time the last and final match of the night started, it was already 10.10pm. The last MD quarterfinal match between Chan Chong Ming/Chew Choon Eng and China's Liu Yong/Chen Qiqiu. Chan/Chew, like Wong CH, played badly. It was quite disappointing. Sigh, shan't go on. |
