I've not seen any extensive coverage of badminton on US TV in more than a decade. Even then, it was on ESPN (2?) in the wee hrs on the morning (3am).

I happened to mention badminton to one of the tennis pros at a local (SF bay area) tennis shop. This guy said that he was amazed to to see badm played at such a high, competitive level when he saw it on TV. I assumed that had a satellite dish, but when I queried his as to where & he saw this, he only could remember that it was some international cable channel.

Has anyone seen this? Exactly what channel & time/day was this?

I remember seeing some highlights on TransWorld Sports. I forget the channel though.

I checked out TranWorld Sports on the TVGuide.com site. It shows up on a couple of cable channels: Fox Sports World & Fox Sports World Espanol. Both are available only on digital or extended cable in my area... DRATS!

Anyone see any badminton on Fox Sports Net or one of the standard international cable channels?

i went to www.tvguide.com and did a search for badminton. nada. :(

I was fortunate to catch some badminton actions on CBC Sports and at WTSN (Women Television Sports Network). Other than that, I had to ask my brother who lives in Singapore to record the Thomas Cup and other tournaments onto VCDs for me :(

I check ESPN and Fox Sports Net from time to time, but as far as they seem to be concerned, badminton doesn't even exist.

Strangely enough, the best badminton coverage I ever saw on US TV was years and years ago on PBS (Public Broadcasting System). They showed entire matches of what may have been the US Open. They had an announcer and I think Jim Poole did the color commentary. But it was just that one time.

TransWorld Sports show up on the Fox Sports World channel but not on Fox SportsNet. As I mentioned b4, the badminton that I saw either on ESPN or ESPN2 was after 2am more than 10 yrs ago.

Perhpas we could initiate a campaign to request badminton coverage from ESPN & Fox Sports Net. If they see enuff of a demand, we might get some highlights during prime-time or some even extended coverge in non-prime time hrs.

It's worth a try.

Fox Sports Net televised major league lacrosse this weekend. Seems to me that fits in with badminton, squash, team handball, curling, and the other "obscure" sports.:)
