View Full Version : Team INA Withdraws from HKG SS
badMania 10-27-2008, 02:36 AM According to the report in Kompas today, Lius Pongoh mentioned that due to the unavailablity of funding, PBSI will withdraw ALL the players currently signed up for the KLRC New Zealand Open GP as well as the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Super Series  What an incompetent planning from PBSI as usual...leading to MASSIVE WITHDRAWAL FEES that they have to pay BWF. 53 players alone for the NZL Open :o
Unless of course, players themselves or their clubs want to fund their travel to these tournaments
Yong_Hui 10-27-2008, 02:47 AM is it?????
I think PBSI should have tournament planner for their new cabinet.......
rather than paid for withdrawal fees, if they have good plan, some player can go for that....

..nothing surprising to read...but you were expecting them to come to HK, eh??..:p
Hau-ge was smart, though, to be in Paris now to catch some actions from some INA players. That way, he would watch them live for perhaps the last time, this yr.;)

rather than paid for withdrawal fees, if they have good plan, some player can go for that....how can INA's most famous sport, the only sport which earned them gold medal in this and previous OG, have insufficient funding for their players?
CLELY 10-27-2008, 03:49 AM Really disappointing news, so French SS will become last SS for INA shuttlers participation in this year.

Djarum will send their club players to HKG, maybe Djarum players in Pelatnas too.
Hopefully other clubs can get sponsor for funding to send their players.
badMania 10-27-2008, 05:40 AM Yup, Djarum will send Andre Kurniawan Tedjono, Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartanto and Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka (the later 2 will have to play in Qualifying) for MS and Maria Elfira Christina, Maria Febe Kusumastuti, and Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari for WS.
As for the other Pelatnas-based players, we shall see...
Dreamzz 10-27-2008, 06:06 AM what a shambles.
i thought that PBSI was pretty well funded compared to the other badminton nations.
or has the financial crisis affected our beloved sport as well?
abedeng 10-27-2008, 07:57 AM A great pity, if this is true. And I agree with cooler on this, it made no sense for Indonesia's most rewarding Olympic sport not have sufficient funds for tournaments.
badMania 10-27-2008, 08:33 AM PBSI is having its general election (Munas) in November. So, all players are returned back to their respective clubs, while the new management is being formed. Then, the players will be recalled to Pelatnas, of course, based on their current form and performance. Also, the players' and PBSI contracts with Yonex should be also expiring soon.
The ironic thing is: PBSI has signed up 53 players for the KLRC New Zealand GP and their top players for the HKG Open without even considering whether they have the budget for those tourneys. Only after that, they realized they have no money...opppss.....so....mass withdrawals. They still have to pay the penalty afterwards, amounting to more than US$10k, which is > 100 million Rupiahs currently. What a joke really :o :(
badadum 10-27-2008, 09:27 AM Sigh, just another case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing (or they knew...and simply don't care until it's too late to do anything about it).
scherzando 10-27-2008, 10:16 AM Nooooesss.. >.< I really was expecting them to play! Damnit!
They still have to pay the penalty afterwards, amounting to more than US$10k, which is > 100 million Rupiahs currently. What a joke really :o :(
 That's quite a lot of money. PBSI is being ridiculous..
Krisna 10-27-2008, 10:52 AM what a shambles.
i thought that PBSI was pretty well funded compared to the other badminton nations.
or has the financial crisis affected our beloved sport as well?
During the last 2.5 years, yes, PBSI was very well funded because the Head of KONI, Ibu Rita Subowo, made sure enough funds flow for badminton in preparation for Asian Games, SEA Games, and the Olympics... Also, Pak Sutijoso, made the Jakarta Real Estate Developers donate Rp 1 to 2 billion each every year... :o The next 4 years? Not his problem. He is running for the Republic of Indonesia Presidency... :p

By the time the penalty bill arrives... in around 2 months... 1 US$ could be equal to Rp 15000... :crying: So that's Rp 150 million for the next PBSI administration to pay, right? :o
But seriously, this currency volatility and economic uncertainty is hurting a lot of people in INA... :( I can't blame any of the badminton club owners if they want to reserve their funds [most probably in Rupiah] and not send any of their players to international tournaments until things settle down... :o
The badminton players themselves have to understand that whatever is happening now is not a joke for their families, their clubs, PBSI, KONI, and the INA government. :( Rp 11400 for every 1 US$ is a big jump from Rp 9200 just a few months ago... Few [if any] in INA could have predicted this for sure even 2 months ago... :p
Maybe only the INA-fans [like me] may choose to ignore reality and complain about the lack of actions from INA's top players! :p
Krisna 10-27-2008, 11:28 AM I just checked the BWF website, this is the newest rule for Super Series, amended May 16, 2008:
8. WITHDRAWAL FEE
8.1. If a player
/ pair who is accepted into a tournament withdraws from the entire tournament
or any event thereof for any reason whatsoever within fifteen days before the first
scheduled match of the tournament, the Member Association entering the player shall
make a payment of US$250 per player / pair to the organisers for the inconvenience
caused by the withdrawal.
The first scheduled match of Hong Kong Super Series is November 25. So, according to this, as long as they are withdrawn 15 days before... [which is November 10]... there will be no penalty fee... :)

What about for GP event? Anyway, the 15-days deadline for the KLRC New Zealand Open will be Monday 27th October?

I have posted the GP rule [chapter 9] in the NZ Entry thread... :) In short, yes, 15 days. That's why Pelatnas administrators insisted on withdrawing at the latest on Oct 27 for the NZ GP.

Exactly, I was just about to mention this 2 weeks in advance withdrawal thing :).

..not a good sign..the exchange rate is almost like déjà vu to around 10 yrs ago, circa 1998-1999...:p

huangkwokhau 10-28-2008, 11:44 AM some ina players will fund themselves to pqrticipqte to hkg. including vita..butet..nova and Bona.
huangkwokhau 10-28-2008, 09:23 PM The latest: Pia.firda as well Sony will join INA army to HKG....they decided to fund themselves...TH also using his money for CHN Open and HKG Open.
Sandy 10-28-2008, 09:36 PM some ina players will fund themselves to pqrticipqte to hkg. including vita..butet..nova and Bona.
Bona will funded by himself,
How is Ahsan ? funded by Djarum ?
I think Rijal will funded by Djarum too, if Vita will play
Sandy 10-28-2008, 09:40 PM The latest: Pia.firda as well Sony will join INA army to HKG....they decided to fund themselves...TH also using his money for CHN Open and HKG Open.
big appreciation to Pia & Firda especially
The others players can hope the prize money to cut the cost, INA WS still hard to find it.
Hopefully some big company give attention to the badminton club like Tangkas & Jaya Raya to fund player sending to international event.
badMania 10-28-2008, 10:11 PM I think we will see the bulk of INA top players, except for:
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan, since Kido is funding both Pia and Bona.
So far, the participants from Pelatnas will include:
MS -- Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Taufik Hidayat (Shanghai and HKG will be a nice year-end holiday destinations for him and his family :D)
WS -- Maria Kristin Yulianti, Adriyanti Firdasari, and Pia Bernadet Zebadiah
MD -- Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya (their last participation in SS event??), Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki, Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan
WD -- Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir (if both decide to play WD of course, but, I think they will prefer to concentrate on XD).
XD -- Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir and Mohd Rijal/Vita Marissa.
I guess we are left with only Simon Santoso, Rani Mundiasti/Jo Novita, and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/Greysia Polii who have yet to decide whether they will fund their own trips to HKG.

Hmmm...good to hear that. I hope they will get more spirit since funding by themselves. MK/HS must take a rest after Europe journey. Simon Santoso? I think he must funding himself as well since he must get some points after withdrawn in Europe tournaments. How about Djarum players who are eligible to participate in HKG such as Andre, Shendy/Meiliana, Rendra/Alvent?
Anyway, I chatted with Luluk Hadiyanto through facebook, I really sympathy with him. He is the humble person, I think...
badMania 11-07-2008, 10:55 AM Updates from the latest M/Q list after the INA players have formally withdrawn (this time no penalty imposed):
MS -- Taufik Hidayat only
WS -- Maria Kristin Yulianti, Adriyanti Firdasari, and Pia Bernadet Zebadiah
MD -- Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan (), Tony Gunawan/Candra Wijaya, Rian Sukmawan/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki, Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan
WD -- Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir
XD -- Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir and Mohd Rijal/Vita Marissa.
So, Sony and Simon have decided not to come, while most of the WD and XD pairs have expectedly withdrawn. The only surprise is to see Kido/Hendra still in the list  I thought they are not going to HKG and will be concentrating on the Kejurnas next week and the Super Series FINAL in December?
yen_saw 11-07-2008, 01:54 PM Does that mean they can keep 100% of the winning prize $$$?;)
maybe in this way the INA players will play extra hard, at least to even up the trip cost. Expect to see good results from INA in those tournament:)
ctjcad 11-07-2008, 03:29 PM ...

matthewteng 11-07-2008, 05:26 PM The withdrawal of Indonesian players will make the HK Super Series much less exciting. This is truly unfortunate. Hopefully, we will stillhave teams that can provide a challenge to the Chinese (perhaps Malaysia, Denmark).
Indonesia needs to get its economy on track, otherwise it will see more such debacles. It shows how the economic crisis is affecting sport!
limsy 11-07-2008, 07:28 PM hmm...actually...it is not accepteble for me...can send team to euro...but cannot send team to asia???...how on earth is this happening???can anyone tell me???

Simple...spend $$$ to get visa apps, ticket and accommodation to European tour first...then when it's time to do the same for HK SS...oops, finally realize there's no more $$$ in the coffer. :o

PBSI (Indonesian Badminton Association) will be held National Forum/Meeting to choose new Chairman, between Icuk Sugiarto, former World Champion 1982 and Djoko. All players at Pelatnas returned to their clubs, and will be called after the Chairman voted, and the fund for Pelatnas cannot withdrawn without Chairman signature I think..... :(
