View Full Version : Chinese Doubles team
Just read this from chinabadminton.com
the Chinese team is now reforming their men's doubles team. Tang Xian Hu who was the MS head coach will now be the MD head coach, along with 5 other coaches helping him to train the MD players. in addition, 5 MS players will switch gear and start playing MD instead.
nothing was mentioned about who is going to be training the MS player.
i think this is a good move for China if they want to recapture the TC in 2 yrs' time. Tang is famous for his harsh training.
good move.
actually there are very good doubles players in Liu Yong,Zhang wei and
Chen Qi Qiu.
Let's guess.
MS coach, Sun Jun , maybe Yang Yang ?Li Mao?
Who's drafted into doubles, Ji Xen Ping,Guo Jian Hua?

It depends how you look into it. As for myself I see the training more technical and physical. Tang was known to be technically 'perfect' (if there is anything called perfect) and to achieve this you have to be physically strong. I believe he is using the formula that made him a great player (the greatest in my opinion). As an example, when he was responsible for Indonesian ladies doubles, they could still give a good fight against China and Korean doubles team. He was criticized for being too physical. Look now where are the Indonesian ladies doubles. :o
i am wonder how this move would compare to importing a coach from overseas, ala Park & Malaysia.

They have made a good start by bagging the MD in Malaysian Open.
No one would have put their money on Liu Yong-Chen Qiqiu to win the title!

Park Joo Bong may ceased to be the Malaysian doubles coach by the end of the the year! His contract is up for renewal this December but he has vowed, through a public media conference that he will resign as Malaysian doubles coach IF the Malaysian doubles pair, either Chan Chong Ming-Chew Chun Eng or the newly formed scratch pair of Tan Chan Fook-Chang Kim Wai, (who surprisingly reached the finals of the recent Malaysian Open) fail to win the Gold medal for the mens doubles in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester :)
He did this partially to fire up the lack lustered Malaysian doubles players, who after the the days of the Sidek brothers, and indeed Cheah Soon Kit-Soo Beng Kiang days, have been performing quite poorly :(
I think personally that his job is safe given that Malaysian's strongest challenge in the mens doubles are only going to come from the doubles pairs from UK. But then again, you'll never know..

Probability would be very low, I think. According to what Park, Chinese doubles players are very good technically but do not read the game well. So what the players need is that ability to vary their tactics according to game situation. I believe there are many capable Chinese coaches to do that.
One of the reasons I think about the Chinese doubles not reading the game situations well, could be lack of competition. In singles there are quite a few fighting for the spots - Chen Hong, Xia, Bao, Lin Dan, Luo, etc. But doubles, I always hear the 4 usual players - that is 2 teams only.
Tang style, I think he would try to bring up more players - similarly what he did with the Chinese ladies in the 80's, then the Indonesian men players was same way. Should there be more Chinese doubles team fighting for that TC spot, I believe the level of play will increase.
the Chinese singles has been feared by the other nations in the past year or two. if the doubles players gets their act together, China will be a serious threat for the TC as well as having a strong grip on the Sudirman Cup for years to come.

Possibly very phrophetic by you kwun, if they improve the same amount in the next year, based on wc performance. Watch this space.

So who were the 5 players that switched from MS to MD? The only one I know is Cai.
Cai/Fu in one year's time should be able to beat any other MD with their best efforts. I think Chen Qi Qiu and Chen Rui should be practicing together again as they had some great results paired up together.
If China could just capture 1 MD from the 2 MD matches, then I think they can beat any nation for the TC, as their MS is the world's strongest currently with any of the top 4 men being able to capture grand prix titles.
