Phew...Du Jing/Yu Yang eventually beat a spirited-effort from Wong Pei Tty/Chin Ee Hui 20-22, 21-19, 21-11. The MAS pair should have won it in the second set at 19-17.

And now for the last match of the day...Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Cai Yun/Xu Chen. It has been a long long wait for this one.

abedeng
11-02-2008, 09:55 AM
CHN wins, but it was a great fight from the Malaysians. They were almost equal in tricks and determination, but CHN had more physical and staying power.

At least MAS girls gave the Chinese something to think about. A great display by both pairs and Yu Yang/Du Jing show why they are no 1.

Match set and done as the World and Olympics Champions solidify their position as the the World No 1 MD pair. Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan beat Cai Yun/Xu Chen 21-15, 21-12 in just 27 mins  So, they have won 3 back-to-back Super Series titles yet again, 2 of them in Europe and this match concludes their 2008 season. They won't be competing in the season-ending 2 SS events, anyway, they have won those 2 events twice.

So, the Super Series FINAL should be the next target for them.

Are they in danger losing their #1 ranking by not participating in those last 2 SS events? They're the defending champ so there's a boatload of points to lose right?

Err..no...because the wins in Denmark and French will have compensated for the loss of pts in the China and Hong Kong SS. Things would have been different if they did not win any title in Europe, which thankfully is not the case.

So, my prediction of 1 title in French Super Series seems to have been correct :D

OT:
The Kejurnas will be more like exhibition matches for them, since its a Mixed Team Championships, so, if Jaya Raya lost in the early rounds, they will not even play in the later rounds :o

I see Team Djarum (Andre, Maria, Rian/Yoke, Mel/Shendy, Fran/Shendy) and Tangkas (Simon, Nova/Butet, Vita/Butet) as strong favorites.

It coincides with the KLRC New Zealand Open GP, which is the next tournament involving a small group of INA players: Tommy Sugiarto, Wifqi Windarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan, and Fernando Kurniawan/Lingga Lie. I expect Tommy to progress to QF, while Edo/Lingga and Wifqi/Afiat have the chance to win a title in MD if they can beat Cheah Soon Kit/Ong Beng Tiong :eek: and Chen Hung-Ling/Lin Yu-Lang.

It has been a non-stop 8 weeks of badminton (kinda rare) and Team INA has done quite well, winning titles in almost every tourney, except for the KLRC Bulgarian Open GP, a total of 12 titles.
