Hello all,

I'm new at this forum, and I'm starting off with a stupid question.

I'm going to buy some new badminton clothing soon, but...

A friend and I had a "discussion" recently.
He says that when you're playing with a Yonex racket, you should wear Yonex clothing aswell.
I play with Carlton rackets, but I like the Yonex clothing more.
My friends thinks it's stupid to play with Carlton rackets and then wear a full Yonex outfit.

So, what do you guys think?

Should someone stick with his/her brand, or shouldn't he/she?

Thanks. :-)

I think your friend is just a little bit too conscious of his appearance when he plays. I don't really care what I wear when I play as long as it is comfortable. Just think about it. When your playing other people do you really notice if their outfit and racket are matching? or do you concentrate on the game itself?

You got me there...
You are right, it doesn't matter at all.

Thanks!

if you are lucky enough to be sponsered then great, wear matching stuff. if like most of us you are not sponsered, i think it is a bit sad to buy all your kit from the same manufacturer, just so it matches.

I carry a yonex bag but do not own a single yonex racket. I wear yonex shoes but do not own any yonex shorts. People judge you by how you play on court and not how you look, the brand of your racket or how what shirt you wear. Wear what you are confortable with..

lol..... I think thats a pretty funny thought 'racket brand same as clothing'.
I think any clothing is personal preference. I use yonex rackets and yonex bag and yonex shoes. but my clothing ranges from fila to adidas to yonex. I think its just what you're most comfortable in when you play.

I know quite a few people around who go for the full yonex attire, latest shoes, racket, clothing etc. but play like ****, so whats the point of having matching gear anyway? look more stupid rather than professional. :p

Don't spend that extra money for the intimidation factor.

If you just look at photos of.. ordinary people with full Yonex out-fits and yonex equipment, they sure do look 'pro'.. but see them move, then that's when we can 'judge' them accordingly.

We often see European professional players wearing Hi-Tec clothing, but using Carlton/Babolat/etc racquets.

Haha.... Badminton is not a fashion, it a sport, though some may think otherwise. I use Yonex racquets, wears Nike shoes and soccer shorts, and Reebok X-tra dry shirts. I'm gonna buy a Yonex shirt and see what the difference is.

haha yes i can say the same i know quite a few people who do this, thing is there beginners or lower intermediate players but they are always wanting yonex yonex yonex and like they spend so much on the clothing and everything but when they play they lose and are always asking why since they think they should win since they have all the gear.

i have tons of shirts from different brands, currently i use all black knight in tournaments, but when im not in a tournament ill use my black knight racquet but i dont have to wear their clothing ill wear my forza clothing or victor, yonex and all the others that i have as well.

so yeah brand of clothing and racquet being the same means absoulty nothing unless your a sponsored/professional player and have to adhear to the rules in a contract. the clothing doesnt make you any better of a player doesnt give you 20% more smashing power and 5% speed increase its just the clothing that your wearing. so wear what you like and feel comfortable in.

Sports is players performance & potential, fashion is an art. Men dressed to style, while women dressed to kill.

I've been 'killed' many times by watching tennis & badminton sports

I don't think the appearance is important. What you wear which make your comfortable, just carry on. I'm using yonex bag, apacs racket, fleet cloth, no brand short pant, yonex show and yonex sock. I don't feel it stupid. At least, my skill is always there.. hehe.

Hmm... I just thought of this too... I wear use mizuno shoes + socks + shorts. For T-shirt, I have fleet/umbro/mizuno although I like the mizunos best since they are the airiest. My wristbad is victor but use a Yonex racket...

But wait, my yonex bags certainly helps me in my game...

i wear slipper to play badminton, is it ok for outlook?

Willi@m
11-04-2008, 11:21 PM
Yonex came out with 3 type sandals, designs like Nike Sandal, with Non-Marking Outsole, I hope they could perform on court (if hall operator allows) Hahahaha

Sandal more secure, im afraid ur slipper might flew against opponent and hit their faces.

I wear Yonex or Kason or Fleet sometimes Nike shorts.Nike shoes atm (will be changed) My bag is Head and also have a fleet bag.l Racket is Sotx and Yehlex.
Tbh i prefer the Yonex and Kason wear but there rackets on't really appeal to me. It's all about the comfortability factor but ofcourse personal style does come into it

just some observation:

In singapore:

2 types of ppl wear all yonex:

the really good players and the really really lousy players. the good ones use yonex becos they are sponsored. the really really lousy use yonex cos to them, badminton means yonex.the better players who are not sponsor in any groups usually use a cheaper non yonex rackets.

clothings, just wear anything that is comfortable and at least presentable in the court. why must badminton players wear polo shirt with ridiculous eye dazzling prints to play?

hehe... agree. I never understood the collars and avoided Yonex shirts due to their extravagant designs. Back in the 80's, Yonex shorts even had a button and a zip .

However, I have seen players at all levels (here in Singapore) who dons all Yonex set.

I wear mostly Yonex and Mizuno game shirts when I play because their design appeal to my taste and they are made with very good quality material. And it's not a conscious attempt to match my Yonex CAB racquets:p. Before I even buy the shirt, I look at the design and the material. Brand is probably the last thing I look for in a game shirt.

Haha... I bought a Yonex "badminton" shirt and a Reebok "golf" shirt. They both seem to be made out of similar material, if not same. To me, one who sweats like there is no tomorrow, they both feels the same. I'd say Reebok's "golf" shirts are way better because they dry up faster and it doesn't feel cold when you lean on them while sitting. For the price of Reebok in 20 bucks compared with Yonex in the 50's, I'd definitely go with Reebok.

I choose my clothing like I choose my racket...I pick whichever is most comfortable for me. Brand name doesn't matter. Quality and price does.

So what about the average ones? They wear/use all brands including Yonex I suppose. ;) I'm using Yonex rackets btw. :p

I only have some Yonex shirts but I don't bother with what brand I'm wearing nowadays.

I look at design (nice and/or unique), quality, comfort, and lastly price (but it's not the highest on the list unless the price is really ridiculous like S$80-S$100 for a sports shirt!) when buying shirts. That includes Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Yonex etc. Plus I have free shirts from Ashaway, Apacs, Yonex etc from taking part in competitions.

The most important thing is you feel comfortable and happy with what you are wearing regardless of the brand. Don't bother with what others think.

As long not topless or nude. :D

Anything thin and made of polyester will do, as it wicks sweat quickly. Cotton gets wet and heavy after a few minutes.

Surprisingly Yonex clothing is priced quite low compared other major brands and it's badminton specific clothing.

But please, if possible avoid wearing athletic skimpy shorts playing badminton especially the white FBT ones especially if you are a guy.

LD rules!
08-03-2009, 04:18 AM
there are only a few rules you should follow
1. Do you like the clothing
2. Is it good value for money (or if you are very rich ignore that rule)
3. Is it comfortable to wear

At the end of the day if you end up wearing something that you like but others don't that is there problem not yours
