View Full Version : Bringing cameras..
scherzando 11-09-2008, 06:27 PM Is it allowed in HKO? To those who attended last year's HKO.. How was it? Were you allowed to bring a camera in? (for regular audience, not ones with press passes) What about an SLR camera? Well, not something too professional-looking but still, not a regular pocket camera.. Is it gonna get confiscated outside?
:D Thx.. Really need to know this beforehand! :p
ctjcad 11-12-2008, 02:26 AM ..what type of camera is "something not too professional looking but not a regular pocket camera"??...
I think the answer would be: just bring your compact digicam. Worst comes to worst, they'll confiscate and keep it until you finish watching the matches/leave the arena. Which i highly doubt they'll do...
*just keep it in your purse/bag/pocket unless they ask for it..
scherzando 11-12-2008, 04:39 AM ..what type of camera is "something not too professional looking but not a regular pocket camera"??...
Well, an SLR camera. Surely can't be hidden in a bag.. >.< But not too big and professional-looking.. Just a regular SLR camera.
I know it's safer to bring a compact digicam.. But if I could, SLR would be better, right?
Aaanyway, thanks Chris! Was really hoping someone would reply this. :p
ctjcad 11-12-2008, 09:14 AM ..just bring your SLR camera w/lens (and your compact digicam), on the 1st day!!..If they confiscate it, so be it, at least you can pick it up afterwards!!..Nothing to lose and you'll know what to do the following day.
Reason is, i've seen situations where people still brought in compact digicams or even DSLRs w/nice lenses and even tripods into (baddy) venues where the rules say otherwise.
Good luck!!:)
*Btw, do you mean SLR or DSLR??.. ;)
edwin 11-12-2008, 12:11 PM I was there to watch the Round of 16 last year. They have new rule in Queen Elizabeth Stadium that unless we are wearing the VIP badges, we are not allowed to take any pictures inside the gym. In the Preliminary games where it took place at "Ma On Shan", they didn't have that rule, but the rule only occured in Queen Eliabeth Stadium. BTW, I wasn't using any professional camearas. It's just a small camera that I bought when it was on sale - 7.1 Mega Pixel with a maximum zoom of 2.5X.
I was, however, still allowed to go to the place where they sell souvenirs and take pictures with players over there though. Just that when we're in the gym, we were still not allowed to take pictures - even if our flash light are turned off.
That rule was only created last year. Not sure if it'll be enforced this year.
scherzando 11-13-2008, 05:46 AM What? They confiscate small digicams too? But not if we can hide it and take pictures in discreet, right? :p
Now they hold all qualifying rounds and main draws in QES, right? Well, according to this (http://www.internationalbadminton.org/SUNRISE%20HKG_08/venue.html) page. Btw how many courts do they have?
*Btw, do you mean SLR or DSLR??..
DSLR.. U planning to come?
ctjcad 11-13-2008, 07:17 PM :(....but hope you'll have fun, take lots of pics and don't forget to find other BCers, if you have a chance...;)
*How many courts does QES have??i thought you knew that already??..:p

*still plans to take pictures in discreet* I grew up in Indonesia, we don't really care about these rules. :p (However I am quite afraid that they'll confiscate my camera and drag me out of the stadium.. will they?)
ctjcad 11-24-2008, 04:23 PM ..barring any unfortunate confiscation of the camera(s) and being dragged out of the stadium (don't worry, i don't think they'll do that), we would expect some pictures to be taken and shared here with all of us..........yes, you know who you are...;)
Psst, scherzando, look for/PM Hau-ge or badMania(friendly folks). They might be your best friends in getting you up close & personal with the players..If they can get you to do that, don't forget to take them out for a treat..;)
Btw, are our local HK photog masters going to go and take pictures for this tourney. Cheung, red00ecstrat & AChan???..I hope one, 2 or all of you guys will spare a bit of time to go & take some pics for us!! Missing kwun's pics is already tough enough...:crying::(
.Missing kwun's pics is already tough enough...:crying::(
it is just as tough for me too. trust me. :crying: :crying:
AChan 11-25-2008, 06:08 PM Cheung, red00ecstrat & AChan[/I]???..I hope one, 2 or all of you guys will spare a bit of time to go & take some pics for us!! Missing kwun's pics is already tough enough...:crying::(

ctjcad 11-25-2008, 06:27 PM http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/18.gif..well, what are you waiting for, let's get moving, you're still logged in in BC...:p
Thanks a million, AChan (Anita)!!:):cool:http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/113.gif
Dont worry about taking photos in QES. The rules says that you cant bring cameras into the stadium. However it is unlikely that it will be reinforced. Many people have brought their cameras into the stadium.
z3048018 11-26-2008, 09:26 AM it was PERFECTLY fine tonight!! if you want it digitally, whack out your recorder, place it in front of you and no one will care!!! though the QF & SF could be a different story...

so do you took any photos today?
z3048018 11-26-2008, 05:51 PM if only i had a camera....

They were stricter and asked people to put away their cameras on QF day. However, I saw nobody getting asked to leave.
Cheung 11-29-2008, 10:46 AM Oh yeah, they were really strict today. Security wouldn't even let press photographers through to the court level. Some of the press got really angry.
SecondBest 11-30-2008, 03:18 AM Such an attitude is crazy!
Badminton needs as much press as it can get.
Football fans would have burned down the stadium.
ctjcad 12-03-2008, 05:50 PM ..nor seen any pics from our scherzando...hmmmmmm...i hope she still has her camera...hmmmmmm...http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/7.gif:confused:

That's because they're not worthy.. :p Trust me, Chris. They're crappy pictures. I sat WAY back on the 26th and sat quite in front on the 29th, but still, crappy pictures. (But I still have my camera.. Thx :p)
Anyhow, I think I saw Hau-ge (did ask for a favor but then I thought it'd be too annoying so I stopped asking :p) and BadMania.. What do they do, actually? Seemed like such a nice job.. :D
ctjcad 12-09-2008, 12:48 AM ..at least & hopefully you've enjoyed the matches..It's fine, there's always next time for the pics..:)
Btw, did you take any pics with any players??..
*Hau-ge and badMania are just regular folks, like you & me. They just happen to reside in HK and are regular attendees at the HK Open.
scherzando 12-11-2008, 12:19 AM I really enjoyed the matches.. :D Did take pics with Indo players only, Nova, Chandra and Butet.. Because it was easy. They were chatting outside the stadium. :p
*Hau-ge and badMania are just regular folks, like you & me. They just happen to reside in HK and are regular attendees at the HK Open.
But they had the tag thingie hanging around their neck.. Press passes? (I have no idea) And they were watching from the players' area.. *confused*
ctjcad 12-11-2008, 01:03 AM ..any pics w/ those players to share w/us??..:)
Oh, those name badges/press pass thingie, they got them from either the players or the team managers or the organizers themselves. That's a "reward" for getting to know them & helping them out, in many previous tourneys. Sort of like they have "connections" with those people..;)
