Of course there will be prize money for Cheah Soon Kit/Ong Beng Teong(MAS), if they were to win the MD Finals.
But they might give it back to KLRC. :D:D:D
.
badMania 11-11-2008, 09:20 AM Ahem, any prize money involved?
I think all players would get some money.

Hope someone records it on private digicam. Curious to see how the uncles of uncles in the baddy world are playing. :D:D

badMania ... INA players should have no problem winning matches on Day 2.
We should expect all INA players to move on to Day 3, namely;
Tommy Sugiarto,
Melicia Kurniawan,
Wifqi Windarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan, and
Lingga/Fernando Kurniawan
:):):)
.

eaglehelang ... Tactically, they should win. But physically, they could lose.
Yes, it would be nice to watch how the uncles of uncles play. :D:D:D

hmm..sorry to hear that:(
btw, seems that u are very excited about this NZ Open untill cannot sleep, eh?:p
jhirata 11-11-2008, 12:31 PM Oh dear. Alistair Casey stole one of my shuttles. I was taking a break after a set, then he walked onto my court and picked up my AS40 shuttle and threw it into his.. multitude of training shuttles. D:
Quite alot of the participants in the KLRC NZ Open are either from my school or the girl-school which is very near it. These players include: Ethan Haggo, Jessica Jonggowisastro, Anona Pak, Aviva Pak, Melissa Yin & Henry Tam. I have a long way to go until I can make it into the premier team.... :(
Some of them asked me at what round the prize-money will start to be given.. quarter finals ? semi's ? .. I'm a volunteer at this tournament but I don't know yet.

Rarely, International Badminton are played in Australia / New Zealand. But when they do, there will be great excitement in our countries Down Under. :D:D:D
.
badMania 11-12-2008, 02:04 AM No surprises today as the Djarum MD pairs all advance. But, Edo/Lingga's performance is not that convincing today  They will have an interesting match against John Gordon/Daniel Shirley (Dan won the bronze-medal with Sara Runesten-Petersen in XD of WC in 2005) tomorrow.
jhirata 11-12-2008, 02:30 AM Womens Singles:
(1) Renuga.Veeran(AUS) vs Melissa.Yin(NZL)
-Veeran did a head-shot at Melissa Yin.. ouch.
(2) Melicia Kurniawan(INA) vs Clare Chapple(NZL)
-Clare Chapple has suprisingly alot of power in her shots, considering her.. weight which is probably below 40kgs.
(3) Zhou Mi (HKG) vs Anna Rankin (NZL)
-Anna Rankin gave her best shot against the former bronze-medallist, whilst Zhou Mi was.. smiling as she gave away points.
Mens Singles:
(1) Jeremy Liu(NZL) vs Alister Casey[7](SCO)
-Jeremy Liu was a piece of cake for Alistair, the difference in power in their shots were clearly visible..
(2) Lee Tseung Seng (MAS) vs James Eunson (NZL)
-James Eunson is still a junior player. The crowd cheered for him as he.. blasted his best shots at the Malaysian second seed.
Womens Doubles:
(1) Renuga Veeran/Kate Wilson-Smith(AUS) vs Emma Chapple/Jessica Jonggowisastro(NZL)
(2) Aviva Pak/Anona Pak (NZL) vs Mary O'Connor/
The Pak sisters had a bad start, consequtively giving away points by unforced-errors.
They won the second set 24-22, and sadly lost the third set, upsetting the crowd that cheered for them.
Mens Doubles:
(1) Craig Cooper/John Moody(NZL) vs John Gordon/Daniel Shirley(NZL)
(2) Oliver Leydon-Davis/Joe Wu(NZL) vs Cheah Soon Kit/Ong Beng Teong(MAS)
-The young, athletic Kiwis.. suprisingly lost their first set to the hard-out uncles from Malaysia.. The Malaysian pair didn't have any tricks behind their sleeves, but they were the masters of the basics.
Mixed Doubles:
(1) Chen Hung Ling/Chou Chia Chi[1](TPE) vs Daniel Shirley/Renee Flavell(NZL)
-Chen H L looks rather much like an ordanary bright Asian uni student.. but his smashes were crazy.. and Daniel Shirley, the wormer World Championships bronze medallist just.. smashed like he's got steroids ( apparently it's all skills )..
etudiant 11-12-2008, 04:56 AM jhirata, thx 4 the live report....keep it coming as this tourney reach crucial round.......
eaglehelang 11-12-2008, 05:17 AM LOL, they actually won :D:D.

:D:D:D I haven't watched that match ... but I would just guess that Cheah Soon Kit/Ong Beng Teong(MAS) were only there to have a good time, and to make their match as interesting as it could get.
Winning by 23-21, 22-20 could not be anything but fun. :D:D:D
.
jhirata 11-12-2008, 01:34 PM Watching those.. 'uncles' jump-smashing was.. very.. entertaining. It would've been better if they dived.. but they were too good at the basics, they didn't need to dive at all :D:D:D

They're definetely uncles in baddy world, since they've already retired from competitive playing :D:p.
Cheah Soon Kit = born 09 January 1968 = 40 this year. There isnt any profile of Ong Beng Teong in wikipedia, but he should be around the same age as CSK ;)

:D:D:D eaglehelang ... Don't worry about their age.
Most PAWers are predicting that they will win again today in their Quarter-Finals.

Hehe, of course, CSK is not 1996 OG silver medalist for no reason.:D
**KZ** 11-13-2008, 02:16 AM hah....just realised cheah soon kit is playing...interesting...
Kamen 11-13-2008, 10:19 AM anyone videod the uncles playing?
chris-ccc 11-13-2008, 06:50 PM The uncles won... :D:D:D:D:D.. how embarrassing for Henry Tam and his partner..
.
:D:D:D As eaglehelang mentioned, they should not be embarrassed losing to a pair with plenty of experience/knowledge.
Badminton is just a game.
The 'Art of playing Good Badminton' depends on plenty of skill and knowledge, not just on physical strength and power.

jhirata 11-13-2008, 07:48 PM anyone videod the uncles playing?
Yes I did!.. Currently I'm changing the format of the video.. then I'll upload it onto youtube.
our mas uncles still can play and cope up in international tournament:D:D:D:p
good!
hope they can continue this fine form in this tournament:)
The last time I saw CSK, I think in this year's Singapore Open, I almost couldn't recognize him as he has grown so much in size. When I asked him to take a photo with WMC who was then seated with him, he shied away. :( I then had WMC all to myself! :D
CSK used to be the steadier player in doubles during his prime but he was quite hot tempered and was often the dominant of the two partners. I'm sure he must have mellowed by now and enjoyed his game much more.
It is good to see him play again. Wonder whether he is still with KLRC or has he returned to BAM? Good Luck to CSK and his partner Ong Beng Teong, whom I thought is more a singles player. :)

.
:D:D:D That's what I told CSK ... "On court, so fast. Off court, so slow". :D:D:D
Btw, CSK's contract with BAM ended on 31-Dec-2007.

Both CSK and Ong Beng Teong are coaches with KLRC now. Ong Beng Teong joined KLRC 1st, CSK early this year.
