The Chinese players have lots of respect for INA players & for them to hear this, it's must have been quite a shock. What about next year - when the global recession spills over to the Asian countries??? I hope some generous businessmen/companies will step in to help out ... anything that you can do, Huang?

Well, it surprised me too. Never saw PBSI's lack of funding became an issue in the 60s to 90s.

Anyway, as you said, since players are funding themselves, they would probably have better motivation to fight for the title this week.

LYB did say so...
As I said in other threads, the CHN team only cares about OG, WC, Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, Sudirman Cup, AG and maybe AE... not really care about SS...
All their training program are set according to the major competitions that they really care about...
So their next year's targets could be WC, AE and Sudirman Cup...

Old knee injury haunts Chong Wei at HK Open

By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: A recurrent knee injury has forced Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei to withdraw from two tournaments.
The world number one conceded a walkover to Germany’s Marc Zwiebler in the first round of the Hong Kong Open yesterday and he would make a quick return home.
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/11/27/sports/s_62chongwei.jpg Playing it safe: Chong Wei has pulled out of the Hong Kong Open and the National Grand Prix Finals due to a recurring knee injury.
Chong Wei has also made up his mind to skip the premier local tournament, the National Grand Prix Finals, scheduled for Dec 9-13 in Alor Star. With the decision, he will skip the chance to go one better on the record of six national titles he shares with his coach and mentor, Misbun Sidek.
Chong Wei, who crashed to yet another tame defeat by Olympic gold medallist Lin Dan in the China Open final in Shanghai last Sunday, said that he did not want to risk aggravating the injury.
“I picked it up during the China Open. It is an old injury but it is not serious. My coach and I felt that it was best that I give this Hong Kong Open a miss,” said Chong Wei in a telephone interview.
Chong Wei’s priority now is the Super Series Masters Finals, which will be held in Kota Kinabalu from Dec 18-21.
Despite missing the Hong Kong Open, which is the 12th and final round of the Series this year, Chong Wei is assured of a place in the Finals, which feature the top eight ranked players in the Series standings with a condition that each country can only have two qualifiers. Chong Wei is currently the leader in the standings.
“Our GP Finals are too close to the Masters Finals. I need more time to prepare. I have decided not to play in the GP Finals unless the BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia) change the championships to a later date,” he said.
Choong Wei said that he would be  wiser in facing Lin Dan after suffering two humiliating defeats to the Chinese superstar, the other being in the final of the Beijing Olympics last August.
“At the Olympics, the pressure got to me. This time, I did not play well. But I have learnt a lot from both defeats. My coach and I will work to come up with better strategy to get the better of Lin Dan,” he said.

LYB should learn from the case of ZM, when a good player is not under the pressure of representing CHN team, he/she could enjoy playing badminton and achieve good results...
the retirement just signify their retirement from CHN team, not from badminton... they could play on their own, like CH, or Chandra...
it's good for badminton fans...

Thats okay..even some of chinese players did not know also...Zhang Ji Wen was herefor one day...anyway..I got info from one of their BF...:D...he mentioned that GL may play for one year only...was thinkng to ask her to play mix with Flandy but being told it might not possible...lets see if they will play next year..it seems for sure that China team will go under Army camp and may not participate MAS and KOR open..

Good chance for others to produce best outcome and collect ranking point toward World Championships while CHN players as tough competitor will be busy with their winter camp.

I don't see any contradiction between this and Hauge's info... Take CH as an example.

Furthermore GaoLing and WeiYili are from Hubei, YW/ZJW represents GuangDong. So it's beneficial to their provinces if they continue to play in high level tournaments.

not sure where you got your info from, all 4 of them are officially retried from the national team but will play their farewell tournament next year at the national game.

wowowowowowow!!
I kinda expecting that
because lately, their perfomance is not good enough
and I guess vita is still new with rijal as her partner ,so she must get used to it..

and butet, she should have new partner in XD and WD
because she's still young and energetic :D

Ideally Grace/Butet would spearhead INA'S WD for years to come...... ideally :o.

They lack power.....Butet will be better if paired up with Shendy.....with a "tukang gebuk".

INA's WD don't have much big power players this time.

Only a few names, Meiliana Jauhari, Nitya Khrisinda and Yulianti. Althouh Shendy big & tall, she is front side player. Meliana who has harder smash as execution player.

Nitya looked nervous when she paired with the "experience" partner, so far her best pair is Pia Zebadiah.

Yulianti, please paired back with Richi Puspita Dilli. Remember, this pair won in Vietnam Challenge beat Ha/Kim of Korea who beat Vita/Lily in HKG this week.

I remembered abt that match...the Koreans were making so many errors....esp at the rubber-set, which basically gift-wrapped the match to the INA pair.

However, I heard Yulianti is not longer in Pelatnas? Hmm.....

Yes...Shendy is a front player and Meili is the actual attacker " tukang gebuk"...I hope they will revamp all WD..Endang could be out..we need to promote all PRATAMA WD players to senior level..it wil be pain but good for future.....

i thought Yulianti still paired with Poluakan. they are no longer together . or both have been out from pelatnas??

hmm,,i rather see butet get paired with shendy
they gonna make a good pair,,
both of them ,is young and energetic
so,is not wrong to try it
hehehe..

and not only butet need to think about
all sections actually need to think about..
in MD we have good players beside Kido/Hendra
in XD we still keep hangin' on to Nova/Butet
in MS we must see another player beside Sony and Simon
in WS we are now is running out about who will be the next maria, firda, and pia
and lately performance of maria, pia and firda is getting slow..
in WD we must see a new partner for butet and others

hope for the best to Indonesia players :)

Article (chinese) from Sohu said, Gao Ling and WYL will going to play in both Korea and Malaysia Open, not sure about ZJW and YW.
