View Full Version : Chinese Taipei Open 2002 kwun 07-16-2002, 01:01 PM http://www.ctbad.org.tw/2002TaipeiOpen/ wl2172 07-18-2002, 10:53 AM Anybody has the latest scores for the Taiwan Open?? The website does not seem to update. sporty 07-19-2002, 03:10 AM You can get the latest result here..... http://www.ctbad.org.tw/2002TaipeiOpen/Chinese/3-Program/MS.HTM http://www.ctbad.org.tw/2002TaipeiOpen/Chinese/3-Program/LS.HTM http://www.ctbad.org.tw/2002TaipeiOpen/Chinese/3-Program/XD.HTM http://www.ctbad.org.tw/2002TaipeiOpen/Chinese/3-Program/MD.HTM http://www.ctbad.org.tw/2002TaipeiOpen/Chinese/3-Program/LD.HTM adelina76 07-19-2002, 06:54 AM Okey, I just read that none of the Malaysian singles players made it through the 3rd round. 'That's shocking! It really made me realise that Malaysian players are getting left further and further behind compared to the Indonesians and Chinese players who seem to get better and better and not only that, they have more and more players these days! What is the future of the Malaysian badminton? Gone are the golden era of the Sidek brothers, Soon Kit-Beng Kiang in the doubles and Rashid Sidek, Foo Kok Keong in the singles :( Or is it? What are your views? A kwun 07-19-2002, 07:09 AM i can't help but to notice that a couple of seeded US players were completely butt kicked by their relatively unnamed opponents. namely, 5/8* Elie Wu was defeated by Huang Chia-Chi (TPE) 11/2 11/1, and then she and partner Mesinee (also 5/8*) was beaten by Peng/Wang (TPE) 11/0 11/0. Kevin Han and Howard Bach (3/4*) did pretty well though, went through two rounds and eventually defeated by a Thai pair. wl2172 07-19-2002, 07:13 AM Dear Adelina, One bad tournament does not mean the end of Malaysian badminton. Also, please note that the players sent were not the core players. Choong Hann, Hafiz, Tsuen Seng and both the top doubles were not sent because of Commonwealth games. I think Malaysian players will still hold their own against the top in the world for the next few years. |R|S 07-19-2002, 11:35 AM does anybody see hendrawan's and sigit's name ??? what happened? sigit got drug problem and hendrawan retired!? :D Hugo 07-19-2002, 12:15 PM Isn't it sad that Mainland China completely boycotted this event....again? Of all international events, this one should be the one to be attended by at least some representatives. I'm sure they could have put aside politics and just really enjoy the sport and competition with their "brothers" on the island. Well, without any Chinese reps in this comp, I'm gonna have to cheer for Chinese Taipei and HK.....!! kwun 07-19-2002, 01:42 PM boycott may be too strong a word. China has sent players to previous Taipei Open before. and China don't sent players to all tourneys as far as i can remember. cheer for HK, there are still a lot of life left for the HK camp. Agus is in semi. and there are Wang Chen and Ling Wan Ting in the LS semi. also notice Tony Gunawan played with Bob Malaythong against Kim/Ha. Kim/Ha must be happy Tony's partner isn't Candra or Halim! sporty 07-19-2002, 08:44 PM Originally posted by |R|S does anybody see hendrawan's and sigit's name ??? what happened? sigit got drug problem and hendrawan retired!? :D Hendrawan and Sigit didnt play in this tournament.. Hendrawan just had his second child... a baby boy... (his name is Alexander Thomas Anggrianto)... then he said that now he will concentrate on the next tournament.. I believe its Singapore Open.. For Sigit... he didint get to any drug problem.. but he got shoulder injury.. so he cant play at this point of time.... Ronald Susilo also not playing here.. guess preparing for Commonwealth too... sporty 07-21-2002, 06:51 AM MD: HA/KIM LD:Saralee-Sathinee MS:Taufik Hidayat LS:Wang Chen MX:Trikus H/Emma E adelina76 07-21-2002, 04:52 PM Originally posted by wl2172 Dear Adelina, One bad tournament does not mean the end of Malaysian badminton. Actually, I wasn't implying that it's the end of Malaysian badminton, that tournament just led on to the question I was asking. I was just saying that the Malaysian badminton isn't as strong as the days of the Sidek brothers, Foo Kok Keong and co. And btw, I also doubt James Chua and Ong Ewe Hock and Yong Hock Kin can be categorised as second stringers given that James just came hot off his win in the Malaysian Open. And you're right in that it's just one tournament..and with all due respect to the tournament, it isn't exactly one of the major ones and yet our players cannot capitalise (the fact that China and Indonesia and Denmark's top players weren't there ) and do better in this tournament. We're not even talking about winning the title, we're talking at least reaching quarters or semis, they didn't even manage that. I do think it's a bad sign..not the end..but not good either. A wl2172 07-22-2002, 04:25 AM I guess you are right. Ong and Hock Kin are already old, they might not be able to last the pace. I have written off Ismail ages ago already, he can only play in patches. As for James, I just cannot understand why he cannot perform outside of Malaysia. He is quite unbeatable in homeground, but when he goes outside, he just evaporates. BTW, I thought Hock Kin has retired? adelina76 07-22-2002, 06:23 AM Nope..he's still there..just not playing in as many tournaments due to being plagued by so much injury..and I think because of that, he's like semi-retired. sporty 07-22-2002, 08:31 AM Another Malaysian player who is injured is Lee Wan Wah.. Guess his condition is quite bad.... I dunno if he can recover or not... whizkelv 07-22-2002, 09:29 AM Lee Wan Wah could be on his way to retirement if his regular partner, Choong Tan Fook could clique well with Chang Kim Wai. They did pretty well in the Malaysian Open to reach the final, between the current world no 1 from Denmark in semis. Wan Wah is too injury-prone, also age is not on his side. whizkelv 07-22-2002, 09:30 AM Lee Wan Wah could be on his way to retirement if his regular partner, Choong Tan Fook could clique well with Chang Kim Wai. Looks like the new boys that just won the ABC juniors have a lot of potential. Koo Kien Keat and Ong Soon Hock. adelina76 07-22-2002, 03:34 PM Originally posted by wl2172 Yeah, poor Wan Wah just cannot sustain the pace anymore. Hopefully new doubles will emerge. In a completely out of topic kind of way, although Wan Wah can't sustain the badminton pace anymore, he has no problems sustaining the pace of many girls' heartbeats! Mine included! He's soooo cute!!! :p sowwy..can't help it! :) A *blushing* wl2172 07-22-2002, 05:35 PM Yup, I know a few girls who share your same feelings. Hahaha....I hope he makes a strong comeback though, he is very gifted and has a very powerful smash with sharp and fast drops. sporty 07-22-2002, 08:59 PM Met him last time during SEA Games 2001.... he's not bad looking.. hehehe... wish he could play.... but heard that his injury is quite serious... =(( |
