Just before I set off to QES today, Hau-Ge sent an sms breaking the bad news that Markis Kido was injured and they would probably lose the match today. So, I kinda half-expected the worst already

True enough, Markis Kido appeared on court with heavy bandage on one of his knee and his body language in the first set certainly indicated that he was not at ease. He was trying to limit his movement and I don't think the INA pair was doing any attacking at all. Even during the interval and first set break, Sigit Pamungkas did not have much to say to the INA pair and was not as animated as usual as he only reminded Kido not to strain his knee further.

The second set was a bit better as the scoreline was closer too....this time round, Kido was doing some attacks. However, Hendra was pulled to the back most of the times and he was the one chasing all the ball as Kido was instructed to be in front so that he would not aggravate his injury. It was inevitable that Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong win the match in straight-sets 21-11, 21-17.

After the match, I went downstairs to meet Kido/Hendra and Sigit Pamungkas. True enough, Kido's knee was swollen and he was really in pain. I asked him why not just withdrew, he replied: "masih mau main dan kalahin Koo/Tan supaya bisa hattrick", ie: he still has the desire to win the match today to achieve the hattrick of titles at HKG Open :(

Sigit Pamungkas and Hendra Setiawan also looked relaxed after the match. I don't think they were too concerned about the defeat today. This was different from the last time at Macau Open 2007 where I watched Sigit Pamungkas lecturing both players about the loss to Koo/Tan. Both Sigit and Hendra should be more concerned of whether Kido's injury could heal before the Super Series Final in three weeks time

Heh, If Nova/Butet lost as well, the only INA representatives in SF is Taufik......can't be right, everyone else decides to go shopping while him decides to play on?? :D

Kido/Hendra, Sigit, and Vita are definitely going back home tomorrow afternoon. Since Nova/Butet lost as well, they should be joining them in the same flight (if there's vacancy).

Both Sigit and Hendra should be more concerned of whether Kido's injury could heal before the Super Series Final in three weeks time
I really hope Kindra can recover for the finale.

If Kido/Hendra's loss was understandable, I think Vita Marissa/Liliyana Natsir's defeat can be avoided if Vita/Butet played more aggresively. However, they looked a little casual in the first set. Furthermore, once Vita started making the mistakes, her confidence immediately collapsed and she really made tons of mistakes today :( They only showed their attacking prowess in glimpses and certainly, the Korean pair Ha Jung Eun/Kim Min Jung took advantage of the INA pair's lack of confidence today and took the rubber-set quite comfortably. It was really a disappointing performance from Vita/Butet

Err...every human being definitely has the desire to achieve whatever he/she desires, despite the condition he/she is being subjected to right now. I won't blame Kido for insisting to play...anyway.....even Sigit knew from the moment Kido was injured that the chance was slim. So, he wasn't placing much pressure on the INA pair to win also. But...there's still a chance of beating Koo/Tan and getting the hattrick which I believe no MD pair has achieved here in HKG, no matter how small the chance is

Winning a title in HKG is of course is not guaranteed. So, the word "hope" that you mentioned was implicit in Kido's reply. It's not as if Kido said "pasti bisa ngalahin Koo/Tan" or "surely can defeat Koo/Tan" He merely stated his desire to beat Koo/Tan so that they can retain the title (hopefully). It's not about overconfidence or looking down on Koo/Tan, thats for sure :cool:

Even as World and Olympics Champions, Kido/Hendra are still probably one of the most down-to-earth pair. I asked them about the chance of winning the HKG Open title....they merely said "take each match one at a time". And about winning the All-England title next year, both players and Sigit replied...."Semoga aja deh"....or "Hopefully".

actually, if kido had an injury, i guess the best way for him is withdrew from today's match but i think they keen to continue plays this match is because they wants to defend their title here..

I am a bit confused by this statistics. Exactly how are these "other" points be given? Anyone watched the match?

Maybe badMania can tell us something?

Err...I only watched the afternoon session and skipped the night session. I think "others" refer to unforced errors....like netting error, out returns, service errors, etc.

I think even forced errors are put under Others, whereas clear, net and smash winners are the only ones really tracked properly.
