The tenth anniversary of BC is nearly upon us.
It would be a good time for us to show our gratitude to the creators and caretakers of this wonderful forum.

Perhaps folks could contribute as to how BC has helped their game.
Or how they have made new friends, or have learned about different parts of the world through interaction with the BC community.

Could the veteran members give us the story of the origins of BC?
Maybe some of you have funny stories to share.

At the very least, it is time to say "thanks".:)

For us in Melbourne, Australia, Badminton Central has helped so many BCers throughout the world to play with us.

We, at our CCC Badminton Club, have received so many players from other countries migrating to or visiting Melbourne, that we are pleasantly and thankfully surprised.

Wishing Badminton Central "A Great 10th Birthday !!!".

BadmintonCentral had a really humble beginning.

10 years ago today. I was sitting at my graduate student office while heavy snow was accumulating outside. I was supposed to be working on my research but instead I was dreaming about badminton. Since it was at night and freezing outside, nobody was available for a game. So instead I was trying to look for information on the internet. To my dismay, I found very little, and whatever I found, i did not like.

So I decided to build my own site. It was originally an information site and a review site, people came to BC for articles and links. BC really florished after I added a discussion forum. And the rest, as they say is history. Badminton fans from all over the world starting coming to BC, and we talked about every aspect of badminton imaginable. Later on we started the tradition of gathering in BC during big tournament, virtually hanging out with like-minded badminton fanatics.

BC originally was hosted on my desktop unix machine. The traffic was so light it was more than adequate. later on, we had expanded to a real hosted server and nowadays, BC is being handled by a 8-core super fast server.

Little did I expect the little website that I started will have more than 1 million posts and tens of thousands of people from all over the world visit us regularly. It was such an incredible experience esp when i get to know and meet badminton fans from all over the world.

BC is a community that will cease to exist if it were not for everyone who come here and share your thoughts. So thank you all for your continued support!

Many congratulations to kwun and BC on its 10th anniversary. Many will admit BC an addiction, as evidenced by the avalanche of withdrawal posts after a shutdown. BC is livened by its melting pot of characters, and that's one of the things that keeps me coming back. Last and not least, BC is a place where friendships are made; even though we may not have met face to face, it feels like I've known some of you like close friends (you now who you are :p).

Thank you kwun and BC for keeping badminton on the front burner. Roll on the next 10.. :)

I joined lotsa automotives and recreational forums before this, but it doesnt get addicted compare to BC, I know Im a newbie but joining here I gained knowledge, experience, plus meeting up BC fellas and have session with upper level players, the most crucial thing is getting poised upgrading your "toys", definitely lotsa antidotes needed, and Im so grateful having all these. Thanks to all the admins, moderators and members who keep BC alive and hopefully BC will continue to serve us for years to come.

Happy Hatchday BadmintonCentral.

Kudos to Kwun, and his team of moderators for initiating and strict policing of this forum. :D

Yup, generally the BC forum does overheat a lot, compared to other forums I am a member of ........... Discussions turn to debates and sometimes arguments in a matter of minutes. Thank God I'm not a moderator. :p

But on the plus side, from this forum came great friendships. And from there, came countless planning and execution of BC gatherings all over the world. We got to know members who came from nations where badminton is not so popular, members with in-depth insiders knowledge, strong analytical minds and of course old-timers who could still vividly compare how the technology and times have changed the way the game is played.

Long live the forum, may it outlast us all ....... :D

..i think kwun was surfing the internet and saw these pics below and said to himself : "Are you kidding me?? Am i supposed to play badminton outside, in the dark & in this freakin' freezin' weather? They want me to freeze to death or what??"..;)..

But i also wonder, "What if kwun had settled in sunny California during that time? kwun probably would go & play; and maybe BC would have never been created"...hmmm..;)

No, but seriously, kwun, remember in the late 90s, the WWW or what we call now the internet was just starting/growing. I believe, the Age of the Internet didn't start til very late 80s to early 90s (it was used primarily for research w/special high-priced machines prior to that). Thus, understandably, infos on many things were still limited, let alone on badminton. Even U.S./California based FT badminton clubs, like SGVBC and OCBC (and maybe Bintang Club in NorCal) started about the same time, in the mid 90s.;)

Instead of catfighting (which is entertaining enough:)), why don't you use this thread to let us relative newcomers know your stories.

eg How you got into badminton. Examples of how BC helped you develop. Great moments in BC history. Heck, maybe there is a BC love story you can tell us about. Or just any interesting badminton story that hasn't made it to some other thread.

Thanks in advance.:D
