21 December 2008

The BWF announced today in Kota Kinabalu a four year sponsorship deal with YONEX Japan to 2012 which will see YONEX as the official Badminton Court and Equipment supplier for BWF events.

“This marks the 16th year of our relationship with YONEX”, said BWF president Dr Kang Young Joong.
“The YONEX relationship is a very important one for the BWF and the world badminton community. We are very pleased to be working with YONEX Japan again on our major events and we look forward to the significant support towards London 2012,” he added.

Ben Yoneyama, President YONEX Japan echoed the president’s sentiments and spoke of YONEX Japan’s long term view and commitment to the sport as evidenced by the 25 year sponsorship relationship with the All England Championships.
Kang Young Joong said: “We are grateful to YONEX for extending their sponsorship with us in these difficult financial times”.
“Although I can’t reveal the amount, I can say that it was a generous offer and we are more than happy to accept their proposal.”
Present at the signing ceremony ahead of the YONEX Sunrise BWF World Super Series Masters Finals final at Likas Sports Complex, were Paisan Rangsikitpho, BWF’s Chair of Events, Peter Gacheru, BWF’s Chair of Administration, Stuart Borrie, BWF Secretary General, D. K. Seth, Managing Director Sunrise Sports Ltd, Badminton Association of Malaysia secretary P. Ganga Rao, Sabah BA president Datuk Maijol Mahap and former world champion Taufik Hidayat.
This announcement is a fitting end to an Olympic year – and the start of a new quadrennial towards London 2012 and by then the YONEX and BWF will celebrate their 20th year.
BWF itself is celebrating an important milestone in 2009 – its 75th anniversary and it plans a series of events to mark the occasion and celebrate the milestone with sponsors, members, players and other stakeholders. First up is a 75th Anniversary dinner at the start of the Sudirman Cup in May 2009.

Yonex is really stepping up further to market their brand image in the badminton world. Sponsoring ALL major world class events will definitely secure their market position as the brand leader. Just good marketing strategy.
Next step? Commerialize badminton as a sport to become more popular and well known in major outlets or countries. I think they should make badminton more as a team sport because it's easier to support one's own's country rather than an individual.
Like the Olympics, people recongize countries rather than individual names.

agree or disagree i wanna hear it

Well I kinda disagree as people can be appealed by a character ie : LD in China or LCW in Malaysia.
