IMHO, we cannot say that CHN team had made withdrawals from the 2009 Malaysia Open.

Withdrawals are usually meant for players who have applied to participate, but later changed their minds.

But looking at the list of withdrawals, it is really not that bad because there is only around 2% of players making withdrawals.

Injury knocks Zakry out Sunday, 04 January 2009 By : Ajitpal Singh (ajitpalsingh@nst.com.my)This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

A knee injury to Zakry Latif (left) has forced him and partner Fairuzizuan Tazari out of the Malaysia and Korea Opens.
A knee injury has floored doubles ace Zakry Latif, effectively ruling him and partner Fairuzizuan Tazari out of the Malaysia Open, beginning on Tuesday, and the Korea Open on Jan 13-18.
Zakry, who has been experiencing nagging pain in his left knee for months, has been advised by doctors to rest for two weeks.

"I aggravated the injury during the Super Series Masters (Kota Kinabalu) and it has been troubling me since.

"Tests revealed that I damaged my meniscus but it's not serious. I don't need surgery," said Zakry yesterday.

"The swelling was bad last week and I had to use a walking stick for two days, I'm pretty disappointed as we were looking forward to a good start to the year."
Zakry, 26, made his decision to withdraw from the tournament after a one-hour training session at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

"I tried my luck on court, hoping I would be fit enough for the tournament, but I could not continue.

"I informed my coach (national doubles coach Rexy Mainaky) and he accepted my decision.

"Rexy advised me to rest as aggravating may damage my knee further."

Zakry said he will likely return to light training in two weeks.

"I will have to work on my fitness when I return. We should be ready for the Swiss Open and All England in March."

Zakry-Fairuzizuan, who bagged the Indonesia and Singapore Open titles last year, were the fourth seeds in the Malaysia Open and were drawn against Indonesia's Alven Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan in the opening round.

"From our evaluation, we consider Mulyo as having failed to discipline Taufik in terms of the training schedule. For instance, Taufik missed our physical tests in the last four years," he (Lius Pongoh, PBSI athlete development head) said, adding the excuses given were overused.

That's a pretty hard-hitting statement!

It's true that Taufik Hidayat has missed his physicals.
But is it fair to lay the blame entirely on Mulyo Handoyo?

After all, does Taufik listen to anyone at all?

Oldhand
01-05-2009, 10:29 AM
Well, this is not the first time this has happened.
Here's what happened in 2001 (http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2001/07/03/taufik-resume-training-tuesday.html), when he was just 19 ;)

Then too, Mulyo Handoyo had been replaced without warning.

-------------

"I don't know what to do as I have lost the motivation to join the training sessions. I don't want to start the training sessions halfhearted," he told reporters after training at the Indonesian Badminton Center in Cipayung, East Jakarta.

"Besides, I am still disappointed with PBSI officials who did not inform me of Mas Mulyo's termination."

Taufik said he could not adjust to Agus's training program but declined to elaborate.

-------------

Well, Taufik was World No. 3 back then.
It's a totally different scenario now.

Let's see who blinks first - Taufik or the PBSI

bascially TH is demanding his own personal coach on top of pbsi's coaching staff. Given the low budget these days, i doubt pbsi would give in this time. TH likes Mulyo because mulyo is too easy on TH but this sets a bad example for the rest of team when TH get special treatment or exemption while rest of the rest have to sweat it out.

..that's Taufik's excuse. Although, one has to wonder, has he won any major titles, since the 2006 AG & last yr's SEA Games MS title, with Mulyo onboard? And as far as i remember, the last time Taufik reached the Finals round (not too long ago), it was Hariawan who was sitting behind him..not Mulyo.;)

..in one sense, the blame shouldn't be entirely on Mulyo. But considering they(PBSI) are paying Mulyo's salary, they should at least demand some kind of accountability from Mulyo.
Or, it probably is not the **REAL** reason, but rather could be their way of saying "We don't have enough budget, so, we decided to let you go"....and instead gave the above as the reason for Mulyo's termination.

...what's the excuse for Taufik? He can probably help to offer pay for Mulyo's salary, IF he really wants to stay on the team and competes. Besides, y'all probably can guess how much $$$ he has..;)

But then again, i won't be surprised if he shows up for this yr's All England SS..;)

Taufik could participate in the 2009 Malaysia Open SS without PBSI, couldn't he?

He should be able to supply funds for both Mulyo and himself. Perhaps, the real reason for Taufik to withdraw from this SS is because he hasn't fully recovered from his injury.

Wrong as in not putting his coach on the list. I mean, he was feeling comfortable working under mulyo and things arent going as he wished. Why dont they make an agreement such that if Taufik doesnt win some SS this year, then he has to follow what PBSI has to say ?

PBSI is under budget restructuring and moving toward the direction of one coach per discipline. Mulyo is not the only coach being let go and AFAIK, his responsibility is quite limited compared to others. Makes sense for PBSI to not include him. Why does PBSI have to give special treatment for TH again? Its not like he's the force he was 4-5 years ago.
If TH really thinks Mulyo can enhance his results, by all mean I'm sure PBSI "wouldn't mind" if he pay Mulyo from his own pocket. :p

No doubt he's feeling comfortably working with Mulyo because Mulyo probably is the only coach that will let him do whatever he wants :o Please note that Taufik has missed physical tests for so many times and if Mulyo is really a disciplined coach, he would have censured Taufik for flouting the rules.

Of course, everyone knows that Taufik is the World and Olympics Champions....but....no one should be spared the exceptions. We don't see anything being mentioned about Kido/Hendra's indiscipline...despite the fact that they share the same status as Taufik at this pt in time.
