Hi fellow badminton fanatics. Was thinking to myself which university/college has the most consistent highly ranked top 3 badminton teams in Canada every year. Any thoughts?

My pick would be Laval, Western, and Toronto.

I never seen Laval play before. Mostly Caucasian people? I know Toronto usually have Chinese people on the team.

For Colleges, the Alberta Team has produced the finest badminton players. They have won 3 straight CCAA badminton titles. Their team consists of Mount Royal College (Calgary), SAIT (Calgary), NAIT (Edmonton), Grant McEwan College (Edmonton).

Thanks for responding. How do they stack up against the Universities? Probably pretty close in skill level.

I heard from some friends who attend the University of Alberta that their badminton team consists of several national team members and are quite talented. The U.B.C. is also decent in skill level. But that is due to the fact that many Asian students are playing on the teams.

I don't think the University clashes w/ the Colleges in terms of badminton matches, if they do, I personally think the College team would win convincingly. Most of the A+ players or National players (past or present) are from mostly Colleges...ex: Darryl Yung (Douglas College, BC), Stephen Smith (Mount Royal, AB), and there are tons more...

UBC has lots of good players, but the fact is NONE of the universities in BC has a badminton team...dont'ask me y, guess they are too cheap to provide the funding.

Both Douglas College and Languara in BC has won a few National championships in recent years, but i dont'know if they are constantly at the best tho

how about U of Ottawa? They have Dominic Soong has their coach...

U of Waterloo has a badminton team. You have to have a badminton team where Asians are attending school. :D

I think it would all depend on what area you are from.
In Ontario, I think that Western has the strongest team and would be stronger then most college teams.

However, if you are out west, then college teams are stronger.

Alberta definitely has a strong team. I know, I've competed against them.

Here's a link to the badminton team at U of Ottawa.

and Toronto's

and I'm sure the other universities like Waterloo, Kingston, Windsor, McMaster, Carlton all have their own site.
