View Full Version : Dry hands problem
Shadowdrgn20 01-18-2009, 04:00 AM Unlike many people who play badminton, I have extremely dry hands. My palms do not sweat when I play. My hands are so dry that when I play, my palms start to crack. It feels VERY uncomfortable playing. Even though I don't lose my grip as much as sweaty hand people, my dry hands sand down my grip. My grip turns to a smooth feeling cloth, and I lose the stickiness from a brand new grip immediately. I put lotion on daily, but my hands continue to stay very dry, and get even drier after I play. I've tried putting lotion right before I play, but my racket just slips off. Is there anything I can do about this? Are there any kind lotion that keep my hands moist without letting me lose grip?

Are you using towel grip? Why not switch to rubber grip?
Fidget 01-18-2009, 06:35 AM The secret isn't the lotion you put on before the game as much as what you are using regularly.
You should check with your own doctor because hand eczema can be very stubborn to treat. Sometimes you need powerful steroid creams. But in the meantime, frequent use of something cloying and sticky like Prevex (expensive) or lanolin might help...but it takes persistence.
And of course avoid irritants on your hands (which may include the sticky material on your current grip). Good Luck:)
drop2it 01-18-2009, 06:14 PM I think that your hands are better too dry the too sweaty. I have really sweaty hands and have only found one type of overgrip that works for me. I guess if your hands are really dry you could just lick them...FYI I use wilson pro overgrip for my sweaty hands.

DO NOT LICK!:crying::p:confused:
(I'm not trying to be pedantic here, but that really not a good idea)

Sorry, wasn't being serious...I'm just too lazy to put in a smiley. Don't lick your hands! If I was you (which i'm not, but I can pretend to be) just get a smooth, synthetic overgrip. See? No smilely here either. Now you don't know what I mean...BwaHaHaHaHa! That might have been a giveaway...
mojopin 01-20-2009, 01:32 PM dont self medicate with anything (especially steroids) . Just go see a dermatologist. E45 cream and other emoliants are good , but oils are better, but tend to make a mess. While your waiting to see your doc, you could try putting on a pair of rubber gloves with moisturiser inside in them when your at home, or leave them on when you sleep.

Mojopin, you are my kind of doctor....keeping it simple, and uncomfortably gross.:p
(PS How's he gonna hold-on to his Guinness?)
thejym 01-20-2009, 09:28 PM You should just play with my racket... everyone who uses it always remarks that the grip is really wet (from my sweat). That should fix your problem temporarily :P
