Isegrim
01-30-2009, 09:13 AM
i was told by the leader of a badminton shop near my hometown
that the chinese squad is committed to send some top-players to german open.
because germany is a very important country for yonex and so they bound china
to play german open
i dont know if that is the reason, lin dan came the last years
but if it is this way, the probability is high lin dan join the tournament :)

yes, some chinese will participate in German Open. The reason LYB sends BCL, WYH, GWJ and etc to participate in German Open is because he wanted to push their ranking up, especially BCL, he has dropped out from top 10.

Doubles shuttler Razif out to make impact at All-England

KUALA LUMPUR: Doubles shuttler Mohd Razif Abdul Latif is determined to make more impact on his second outing at the All-England next month.

Razif is one of the elite back-up shuttlers named for the All-England, which will be held in Birmingham from March 3-8. The others are Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Julia Wong and Lydia Cheah.

Razif will play in the mixed doubles with Woon Khe Wei in the qualifying tournament. The other mixed doubles pairs are Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and Koo Kien Keat-Ng Hui Lin.

All three pairs are being groomed to make an impact in the mixed doubles at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

“I have been to the All-England before. But this time it will be a whole new experience for me. It is important to make an impact,” said Razif.

“My game has improved (under national chief coach Rexy Mainaky). It is time to avoid early round defeats and give the stronger opponents a run for their money.”

Last year, he played in the mixed doubles with Sabrina Chong but they failed to get past the qualifying tournament.

This time, the fired-up Razif is eyeing a quarter-final finish.

His confidence stems from their fighting display at last month’s Malaysian Open, where Razif-Khe Wei showed their partnership potential by putting up a remarkable fight before going down to Thailand’s Sudket Prapakamol-T. Saralee in the second round.

“The main goal is to clear the qualifying tournament (at the All-England). I hope the draw will be favourable. Ultimately, it will be a big boost for us if we can make the top eight,” he said.

Prior to the All-England, Razif-Khe Wei will flex their muscles in the Feb 24-March 1 German Open, which is a Grand Prix gold tournament under the Badminton World Federation (BWF) calendar.

“The field in the German Open will not be as strong as at the All-England.

“This will be another chance for us to take our partnership to greater heights. Our goal is to reach the semi-finals for the first time in an Open tournament,” said Razif.

Hafiz and Beng Hong must shape up or face the axe

By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: The writing is on the wall for two senior men’s singles shuttlers — Mohd Hafiz Hashim and Kuan Beng Hong — in the national elite team.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have finally run out of patience with the duo, warning Hafiz and Beng Hong to shape up following a series of mediocre performances over the last few years.

Both players have been given until April to show that they deserve to be among the elite shuttlers. Otherwise, they will be axed.

http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/1/31/sports/s_54hafiz.jpg On tenterhooks: Hafiz (left) and Beng Hong

The 26-year-old Beng Hong will have to prove himself at the next four tournaments — the All-England (March 3-8), Swiss Open (March 10-15), India Open (March 24-29) and the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in South Korea (April 7-12).

The 27-year-old Hafiz, however, will only get two chances — at the India Open and the ABC — to justify his place in the elite squad.

Yesterday, BAM president Datuk Nadzmi Mohd Salleh did not mince his words when he said that the national body were prepared to take drastic action to maintain quality in depth in the men’s singles department.

http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/1/31/sports/s_p54choo.jpg Yet to recover: Mew Choo has been left out of the All-England squad due to injuries.

“The performances of these players — Hafiz and Beng Hong — were hotly debated at our meeting today,” said Nazmi after a three-hour coaching and training committee meeting at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.

“These players have been given too many chances and we have limited resources. They have been given a long time to shape up.

“The BAM have been too benevolent in the past. It’s time for us to make a stand. Their coach, Misbun Sidek, will give his recommendation in April.

“We will drop them if they do not live up to our expectations or fail to show the potential to fight for medals at the next Olympic Games (2012 in London).”

Nadzmi hoped that the BAM’s no-nonsense approach in dealing with dead-wood in the national team would keep the rest on their toes.

“What is the point of keeping a player, even as a sparring partner in the team, if he is not fit? Players who are not committed do not deserve to be in the national team,” said Nadzmi.

“It is better to focus on other potential and talented players. A younger player can take their place (Hafiz and Beng Hong).”

Last year, Hafiz left professional club Nusa Mahsuri to join the BAM after the Beijing Olympic Games. Besides the All-England title in 2003, his other titles came in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, 2005 Swiss Open, 2005 Thailand Open, 2005 Dutch Open and 2006 Philippines Open.

Beng Hong has been with the BAM for almost a decade and his best achievements include two runner-up finishes at the 2004 Taiwan Open and 2005 Asian Badminton Championships.

Chris ah, Doubles mean MD, WD, XD. Razif, CPS, Khe Wei, Lui Ying going means they will play both dept. Also means Khe Wei will partner Lui Ying for WD, Razif with Khe Wei, CPS with Lui Ying for XD.
THat's how they arrange = two guys, two gals, play 2 dept. They're sent for XD, then "interchange" partners for MD, WD ;).

So, it will be 2 guys and 2 gals playing in 1 MD, 1 WD and 2 XD.

If that's the case, they better be really fit. Perhaps they are there just for the experience.

Don't think CHN will create clean-sweep in this German GP. KOR will come with their top-players like Lee Young Dae, Lee Hyo Jung, Lee Kyung Won, Kim Min Jung, Ha Jung Eun.

That has been the standard practice for some time.
1) The only ones not playing 2 dept are the seniors : TBH, Zakry, Fairuz, Ong Soon Hock, Lin Woon Fui
2) They also wouldnt go if one of the combinations dont qualify to play the tourney, esp SS. But that seldom happens cos another player will substitute.
That's why Woon Khe Wei partner Goh Lui Ying for German GP cos GLY reg partner Ng Hui Lin isnt going, NHL going straight for AE. ANd....... NHL go straight for AE cos KKK going straight for AE(applies also to WPT, CEH, Lim KW, Hoon TH). Get the connection ? hehehe :p:p:D

Yes, that's the way Rexy does it. Understood the connection.

Hope that some established MAS Mixed Doubles pairs can be made permanent, ASAP.

well...rexy wont give them play if they are not fit enough to cover 2 dept...;)...u know...now...not easy to go for tournament...player is working hard...some player is so MAD when he didnt selected for ae squad...;)...

the competition now is harder and tougher in mas national squad...;)...
To be even make the Qualifying round for AE, players must have enough World Ranking. AE is not cap ayam tournys.
Win some titles in GP / satellite first la.If they qualify by merit, there is no reason for BAM not to send them ;)

Yeah, when will the draw be released, anyone knows?

Rian/Yoke and Bona/Ahsan should employ their own personal managers.

It is not PBSI's fault at all as they did not plan to send them to German Open at the beginning..
It is just Sigit thought it was good idea to send them but was too late to find out that entry had been closed....
Tommy Sugiarto paid his own trip to German Open and PBSI registered him on his request as well as Flandy.
