Jill Pittard wins first National badminton title
Jill Pittard achieved a lifetime ambition by finally winning the women's singles title at the English National Badminton Championships at Manchester Velodrome.
By Rod Gilmour
The 31-year-old from Coventry, who has lost in three previous finals, capitalised on her seventh match-point to sink three-time champion and English number one Elizabeth Cann 21-19 14-21 27-25 in 57 minutes.
"I shouldn't be winning this title at 31," she said. "And I don't know whether I'll be back next year.
"I only wanted to win it once. There aren't many people who work full-time and get to four national finals. And I shouldn't be winning as a full-time worker and a part-time player."
Pittard, who was dropped from the England squad last summer and is not in the team to tackle the European Team Championship in Liverpool from Feb 10-15, added: "Maybe the England selectors will take note, especially with the Sudirman Cup and the World Championships coming up this year."

Wooohooo congratulations Rajiv.
I am luckily enought to know Rajiv and he his a good friend. Well good friend and he coaches me :D.
And I am very happy for him. Also he who is current world rank only number 50 , beat Carl Baxter quite easily who is world number 35.
He is an amazing upcoming player - loosing to Taufik Hidayat 21-18 , 21-16 , and loosing to Peter Gade 21-19 23-21
I think Andrew Smith never plays in the nationals. Since Last year he didn't play aswell. Where last year Rajiv beat Aamir Ghaffar.
I think Andrew has a problem with badminton england.
But he is training in malaysia , training for the all england.
Good luck to both of themm
