Lee Yong Dae / Jung Jae Sung not defending their All-England title in 2009

South Korea served up a surprise for the 2009 All-England in Birmingham from March 3-8 by not listing their men’s doubles defending champions Lee Yong Dae / Jung Jae Sung as a pair for the tournament.

Only the young hotshot Yong Dae will be at Birmingham to play in two events.

He will forge a scratch partnership with Shin Baek Cheol in the men’s doubles and team up with his Beijing Olympic Games gold medalist partner Lee Hyo Jung in the mixed doubles.

It will be a total silly for some one who think this korean pair withdrawal would make way for MAS pair for the chance of AE title this year...

As much I like to believe you, I think you could be wrong. Also, when I think how KKK-TBH are improving, I think you might be wrong. As they say : two wrongs don't make one right.:D So you are wrong ! It is definitely KKK-TBH !

At the last SS, 2009 Korea Open, Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen defeated Lee Yong Dae/Jung Jae Sung.

However, I believe that this Lee Yong Dae/Shin Baek Cheol combination shouldn't be underrated.

..there goes narnia's favorite word, again : dominance.;)

But, yeah, barring any injuries to the pairing of Boe & Mogensen, we should see them continue their rise this yr, along with the other formidable MD pairings.

KKK-TBH are improving? i think they're just returning to their top form after a stint of poor form, not really 'improving' as such. results can't really be based on one or two tourneys. although not ruling them out as a likely chance.

I would have to say kido and setiawan would have to be favored. FHF & CY have also had their stint at the top so will probably do well but not make it all the way.

In rally point system on any given day two evenly matched pairs, results can go either way.

Hope to see Lin Dan win the singles this time though if he's playing :)

Kido/Setiawan has bright prospect to win it and on paper former All England winners like Cai/Fu (2005), KKK/TBH (2007) and Danish pairs will become their main obstacles to grab MD title this time.

That's a strong statement that I fear our resident Korean fan here will probably disagree with since he's all along saying that the Korean pair is the MOST DOMINANT PAIR in the world right now, courtesy of their (soon to be slipping) no 1 ranking and the head-to-head stats thingy :D

Hwang Ji Man + Han Sang Hoon

Hwang Ji Man will be partnering back his old partner Han Sang Hoon. If I recalled correctly, this pair lost to Luluk/Alvent in the Thomas Cup 2006. This pair was then split up for Hwang to be with Lee Jae Jin; and Han to focus in XD (with Lee Hyo Jung at one time).

We will inform in this thread for BCers who do not know...

The current World No.2 pair, MK/HS, will also join LYD/JJS to not play at the All-England 2009. This is because MK quits his National team (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65806MK) and HS is left without a partner. All this happened just 2 days ago.

DEN and MAS will now have a good chance to win the 2009 AE Mens Doubles title.

:D:D:D Hahaha ... OK, we shall inform in this post to correct post#49, for BCers who do not know...

That the mentioned thread of MK quits his National team (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65806MK) is now renamed as The Adventures of Markis Kido (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65806) (it is the same thread).

This is because MK and his siblings are back with Pelatnas. They have finally signed their contracts, just 1 day after their refusal to do so, and informing everyone that they will quit their National Team.

News are breaking fast here at BC. :):):)

LYD/SBC made it to the Finals of the 2009 German Open.

Judging from how they've arrived at there, they could possibly take the German Open MD title.

Therefore, even without JJS, LYD should be able to perform well, partnering SBC, at the All-England next week.

Notice that they're still BWF WR #1.

Right as he failed to get medal in the last Olympics. But JJS will serve it by playing badminton at Sports Squad of KOR Army. He's now receiving 4-week training. After this training, for the national games he will play representing his affiliate while for the international games, he will continue to play with LYD at least until 2010 Asian Games.

JJS/LYD might show up again in April's ABC which is to be held in Suwon Korea. If CHN enjoyed the military-style camp training, JJS has been getting through REAL military training. LOL.

Hope this helps. :)

And if not mistaken, it was also mentioned in one of the Korean related players' threads in the Professional Players sub-forum..:)

http://www.badzine.info/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1572:korea-park-and-jung-to-miss-european-tour&catid=61:newsflash&Itemid=76
================================================== ========
KOREA - Park and Jung to miss European Tour
The Badminton Korea Association issued a news release today confirming that Jung Jae Sung's military service, which commenced today, would keep him from participating in the German, Swiss, and All England Opens. Jung will be reunited with partner Lee Yong Dae to defend their Badminton Asia Championship title in April at home in Suwon, Korea. Lee is expected to continue to play in Europe, however, with partner Lee Hyo Jung in the mixed doubles.

In a surprising addition to the statement, the release mentioned Park Sung Hwan was to begin four weeks of military training on the same day. Men in Korea are normally required to perform 26 months of military service but many athletes have received exemptions based on exceptional performances, including Olympic medals or Asian Games gold. Jung, who turned 26 last year, had achieved bronze and silver in the Asian Games and had missed out on the medals in Beijing and had to start within the year. For the next two years, he will play badminton domestically for the military team, known as Sangmu, and will be permitted to train and attend tournaments with the national team, thus continuing his partnership with Lee Yong Dae.

No details are given in the release about the nature of military service in the case of Park Sung Hwan, who was not facing a deadline like Jung. However, the only active players who have earned exemptions are Hwang Ji Man and Lee Yong Dae.
