hmm..... what a nite yesterday. Saw 2 malaysian players nearly lost and won. Ramdan and Sonia.

As for 2day.

Another tough round for Sonia. Agst Chen Xiajia. This is not going to be easy.
well she got nothing to lose except to play.

Tee Jing Yee should be able to advance to quarter and likely will meet the Chinese Player.


Zulfadli will also have tough round against Tian. while a 50-50 fight will be for Iskandar against Pisit. Ramdan should be able to win if he play better than yesterday.

Our only sole mixed double will have a chance to advance to quarter.


Our top pair girls double may be trouble with the Indonesian pair as i expect this to be tough. As for Shervon/Ong they have an easier opponent and should advance.

You mean this batch of juniors eh? There are some ethnic Chinese but not as good results as Iskandar or Syawal. So, some have left for further studies after their SPM(O Levels) last year.

I've observed that every year, they only promote 2 MS to back-up, so....this batch anyone not on par/better than Iskandar & Syawal very little chance. + they also have to compete for slots with Misbun's son, Ramdan.

Last yr's juniors(2008 batch) promoted to back-up were Goh Soon Huat, Kuan Kam Chong - I think same batch with Mak/Teo. From Arif Latif's batch = Lim Fang Yang. All of them now training under Hendrawan.

well just came back from the hall. well the Malaysian juniors played well though someof them lost.


XD- Lai/Ow- played aggressively with less mistake. deserve to go quater.

GS- Sonia played well today and it is unfortunate she could not capitalise on it. She hold the lead at both half time. Lack of experience and some simple mistake cost her the game. Unlucky in her draw but good for her.

Tee- expected to win this tie against the HK gal.- difficult to say whether she could win against Sou Di.

BS- Zulfadli came prepared just like Sonia but still have not reached the junior maturity to handle Tian yet.

Ramdan- expected to win this tie.

Iskandar- Played well in the 2nd and 3rd Game. Pisit have problem to played rubber game as his fitness is questionable.

GD-disappionted that Ong/Lai lost their double in the semi to the Vietnamese young pair. Lack of quality shots and mistake cost them the game.

Lai/Ng- good game- Hui Ern is impressive.She is fast.

I've observed that every year, they only promote 2 MS to back-up, so....this batch anyone not on par/better than Iskandar & Syawal very little chance. + they also have to compete for slots with Misbun's son, Ramdan.

I also have this suspicious initially that Ramdan was picked out of favourtism. However after looking at the results achieved by him in the just concluded AJC and now storming into the quarter final of WJC, it persuades me to think that his place was earned by merits.:rolleyes:

well some side news on WJC.

Alor Setar is a small town and there are not much of sightseeing attraction here. So the organiser, do organise small and short trip to places like Penang and Haadyai for visitors.

The food here are mostly local food and there are not much choice of european food that is why most of the time the european players eats at the comfort of the hotel.

They do enjoyed Indian food though but i dont think they enjoyed our hawkers food here.

The players are friendly but the host players are quite reserved. The German girls are very pretty and the Japanese are cute. The European boys are generally big size compared to the Asian.

Here we spotted two mexician players who are here to experience what a world junior are like. ( they are the next WJC Host in April if they could meet with BWF conditions) Saw Brazilian and Turkey Player too.

The host nation tries their best to promote the best of the local culture to the westerner. Some of the players came with their parents. I notice the european parents are quite supportive of their children games.

Local Media have been great here and the coverage was good though mostly on their local player.

Outside the hall, there are Pizza hut stall though not the same as inStadium Putra in KL. I would think for a big event like this- it will be more appropriate to hold it in the city where there are amble attraction like shopping complexes,multi racial food and better facilities available.

But having said all these- Kedah did try their best to give a good impression of what a countryside is like. My one week here have been fruitful with plenty of memories and observation. I am going home after tonite quarter final and be watching Astro live 2moro. Probably my last report on the games for Malaysian Players tonite. All the Best to the JR players.

All i can say is, next yr, if they hold the WJC in Mexico, it'll be the other way around. The Asian players, imo, will have their taste buds tested. While the European players might be able to adapt better. But at the very least, it'll be held in Mexico City (a bigger city) with more shopping centers/attractions.

All MS were eliminated early but almost all were in very tight 3 games except hermansyah. I think he is the weakest MS player in INA team. But, he is still eligible for next WJC, right ??

i am so impressed by Subhan Hasan..he's so talented..i watched him played in Sirnas Medan weeks ago..most of the crowds loved him when he played in final..the crowds even didnt care the match of MS (Bandar Sigit against Fauzi Adnan) as Subhan Hasan showed a much more interested match than Bandar n Fauzi showed..

I watched the recorded matches this morning at Astro #811 and I must say our juniors are poor in standards. In the MS match between Mohd Shawal and some chinese chap, I must say Mohd Shawal was strung like a puppet by his opponent. He was made to run all over the court as he couldnt dictate play at all. Then came the MD match, our pair is pretty odinary looking. Like Mohd Shawal & co, I dont see them making the cut at the senior pro level.

The most striking moment came during the prize presentation ceremony (team event), our boys n girls lined up next to China. The difference is so obvious in the physical aspect as well.

Wow...Angga Pratama/Della Destiara Haris manage to topple the top-seed from CHN Lu Kai/Bao Yixin in two tight-sets 21-17, 21-18 :eek: What a result.....Angga/Della were trailing 3 pts at one time but managed to win 5 straight pts from 15 to 20, to seal the victory.

The second seed from CHN also lost to the Thai pair.

So, Angga/Della have the chance to win Gold Medal tomorrow :eek:
