I'm sorry if this has been posted before! My question is that where can the server stand in Doubles? My main question is can he stand in the alley? Same goes for singles, can he only stand before the alley or can he stand in the alley? Thank you :) If u have a picture showing where a player can stand, that would be great! Sry for the noobishness ;)

You will find when you reach a certain level that there will always be a "set place" to stand. Ie on doubles, those who run over to the far corner and leave the rest of the court open for there partner to defend are normally the beginner or ignorant.

In answer to your question in doubles you can stand anywhere in the service box including the tram lines. In singles you CERTAINLY would not want to be standing there even if it was allowed!

you can stand anywhere in the service box buddy...normally close to the centre line is the best for both doubles and singles as your near your home base as soon as you hit it.

.......... in addition if you are standing in the doubles tramline or in the middle, as long as neither of your foot touches any lines on the court, then it is ok. otherwise touching a line with your foot when serving would be foot fault.

i'm also sure at social level there are players that do anything and everything imaginable, so if tis were the case i wouldn't even bother. only in comp. (and it still does sometimes with the odd player serving from the tram line in doubles steeping all over the lines) then it will be an issue. :)

y bother, altho cuts down the angle for the receiver, but opens up the court for the service hence putting the serving side under pressure from the serve. also does not work too well against left handers!!!!! :D

i actually never do the serve, just some friends that wanna be "cool" lol! i was checking to see if they are allowed! so in singles u can stand in the alley? never would have thought that..... i thought u had to stand in the singles lines of the court. thnx for the replies!

No, you cannot do that in singles; it is a fault. The area in the tramlines is not used in singles.
