I was wondering, in International Badminton, are there any sort of rivalries, feuds, or generally dislikes between certain countries or even players?

What I mean is like everyone wants to beat out Canada in hockey. :D Haha we won everyone, in your face! Or another example is everyone wants to beat the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball.

Or perhaps you or anyone you know have had an unfriendly incident with another player from a different country, and despise meeting them. I know people shouldn't try to leave on a bad note, but it happens sometimes. Like the one final where they cheated on lines a few times against my partner and I. Grrrrr....

I'm not tring to promote hate or anything people, don't get me wrong. :) I just think it would be interesting to learn about peculiar things like rivalries that might exist in international badminton.

Hi Phil!!!

When Thomas Cup is played Malaysia and Indonesia are tough rivals!!

I donīt have any direct rivals that I hate, but there are players who I think have a bad attitude on court!!

Everybody has rivals!! I think itīs natural and shows that you really want to win!!

Ha, that was a diplomatic answer! But really, I recall that Richard Vaughan named Boris Kessov and Bjorn Joppien as the "dirtiest" players on the tour... I am sure there are "bad guys" like that in the doubles disciplines too!

Jonas,

Thanks for the answer! Now I can tell my friends that I talked with a high ranked international player!

Really, it's alot easier for us badminton players to contact the world class players since it is not a hugely popular sport, which I think is a great thing. It would be very hard to be able to do this with players in the NBA, etc.
