Has anyone come across a scale for grading badminton clubs before? For example
1) county level,
2) top district level
3) intermediate district level
4) low district level
5) non league (no team) level

The reason I ask, is, everyone/most players like to play against people at the same standard or perhaps a bit better to help them improve. I've never seen any kind of grading for clubs in the UK so there is no way of knowing if the club your about to walk into is full of county level players or players who just play for fun.

It would be stange to grade a club:confused:. Grading players within a club yes but why grade a club unless you have ample clubs close to each other so players can choose which grade he/she is in and go the a club with her grading.

maybe your right. Grading the players within a club makes sense, but for the new player who wants to choose the right club for their standard, they may find it useful to know the club standard.

Do you grade the players in your club? Is there a good way of doing this?

You would not grade clubs period. As its hard enough to grade players within a club. Trying to impose a grading on a club would be next to impossible. To grade players they would need to participate in tournaments whether within the club itself or local or national tournament. The grading has to be based on national grading as you want to be able to apply this nationally in case players move to other areas.
The other problem in grading clubs is that location and population size also matters. Small area population means smaller badminton population which means grading in this area may not be the same for larger population. I will give you an example based on my own location. In Canberra where I live we have only a small population thus the percentage of Badminton players is much smaller then say Sydney. In Canberra most of out B graders will probably only be graded as C in Sydney. So grading is relative.
I hope you can follow my logic...:D

I think it's easy enough to get an idea of things if you just ask around. I think it would be rather hard work to keep such a system going. Where I live, the quality of clubs changes regularly as players come and go. One season a club may have all the best players, the next, most of them may have gone off to university (as seems to be the case lately). In fact, some of the top players around here don't even attend clubs in the first place.

I'd say the best way would be to just try them out for yourself. And as badwally said - one area's A grade player is another area's B :). So I don't think it could really work, as helpful as it may be.
