0ozafo0 02-19-2009, 02:48 AM "When in doubt Smash and Smash agian" :)
i have a similar one
"when in doubt, push to backhand."
dunker 02-19-2009, 03:37 AM My motto...."Got to win THIS point". It helps me focus.
lynx101 02-19-2009, 04:53 AM How about the typical, "You can do it if you put your back into it"?
*WARNING* motto does not apply to over 50s as a serious injury could be sustained :p
Marquee1975 02-19-2009, 05:21 AM :o
It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.
;)
krisss 02-19-2009, 06:05 AM How about the typical, "You can do it if you put your back into it"?
*WARNING* motto does not apply to over 50s as a serious injury could be sustained :p

K4mu1 02-19-2009, 10:24 AM BURRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

"All your error are belong to us" :o
bradmyster 02-19-2009, 08:31 PM i have a couple of different ones.

dweebus 02-20-2009, 10:37 AM i have a couple of different ones.
"never give up, never back down and never be disapointed with any result so long as you have given it your best shot."
This is the toughest to live by, but clearly the wisest. You will always play someone who will make you look like an idiot, so the only way to gauge your play is against yourself. I know it's tough, but if you played your best and lost 21-11 you should not be disappointed.
I still am. I need to take more Zen pills...
quik_silver 02-20-2009, 11:13 AM my motto is RAWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! YEAA!! :D:D
Smash _Drop 02-20-2009, 11:39 AM Lol :D

Phydhel 02-26-2009, 07:26 PM just recently i changed mine from "I can Win this, don't give up" to "just play the game and let your instincts do the job"
this is something i realized recently which really helped my game. check out this thread and do some research. it may change your mindset on court forever.

This frame of mind is also single-handedly responsible for my modest amount of success. Too often we hear the "failure is not an option" speech from figures of authority. Fact is, if you throw two people together in a match on a badminton court (or in any other conflict, for that matter) then someone has to come out on top. The sooner we all come to accept this, the better off we'll all be.
"You must accept the possibility of failure before entertaining thoughts of victory"

Mine's not so much a motto as an engraving on a MedicAlert bracelet telling them where to find my nitroglycerin when I collapse on court.
Asolite 02-27-2009, 07:33 PM "Play first, facepalm later"
I tend to make lots of mistakes :P

My boy's coach has a very good and simple motto "FOCUS". I think it is very apt for players who wants to improve their badminton game. FOCUS.
F for Fighting Spirit, be Fearless, be FOCUS.
O for taking the Opportunity to learn/improve/train or to kill off the opponent during the game.
C = Creativity, about creating chances to win
U = Understanding the skills and strategy
S = Success will come eventually.
If in trouble, just remember FOCUS!!!
Break-My-String 03-01-2009, 06:35 AM On the court:
After losing the rally...
... Boy, do I feel old! (hee hee but I got you running 4 times further than me)
After winning the rally...
... YES! (old fart trick shot #3, 28 remaining)
Off the court:
"An empty badminton court is a terrible thing to waste!"
Cheers!
cappy75 03-01-2009, 06:50 AM In light of the rally point system, my motto nowadays should be this:
"Just keep the bloody shuttle in play!"
It's kinda strange but we get more unforced errors than before when we're playing 15 points.

Your coach is veryyyy strictly on this motto
Destricto_Ense 03-01-2009, 06:04 PM "If it's to your backhand, hit it even if it's going out"
Just.. erm, to practise. I don't play real competitive matches right now, so I'd rather improve my technique in friendly matches in order to be better if I ever do play real matches.

drop2it 03-02-2009, 01:18 PM I like the motto - It is very wise :D
I like to think so - It's my personal adaptation of "bushido." Bushido is the concept that Peter Rasmussen gave credit to for his unlikely 1997 world championship. Do a wikipedia search on it, you might find it interesting. Here's another motto that I personalized a little:
"Do not be overly concerned with victory, for walking the path is enough."
Tornoni 03-02-2009, 02:41 PM No blood, no tear, sweat only, please.:D
Tornoni 03-02-2009, 03:11 PM Smash till you drop.
"Smash 'till I drop" is more likely :) as the smasher is tired sooner.
ray_mond 03-02-2009, 05:19 PM no no no no, this one is the killer one i tell all my friends.
"as long as you do a drop to the right place at the right time, you will always win!"

being a social player, i only play like 1-2 times a week. so each time the focus is to have a good sweat.
a good game is one that have good rallies(hopefully last at least 25min per game. not one that you can smash at the weakest link and win in <10mins.

You probably shouldn't ever accept a drive home from him.
When playing XD with some of the more timid ladies in my club, I used to try to get them going with "Kill!Crush!Destroy!". It's amazing what a violent mantra can make a nice lady do.
Pete LSD 04-08-2009, 07:43 PM  Oh dear, verbal violence on court :D. What about verbal love to encourage the players to engage in an intensive game-man-ship?

Kobold 05-13-2009, 06:25 PM "Faster, harder, stronger."
that's a bit of a mantra I have for myself to put the extra effort in, dive that much further, make the returns harder for the opponent. I also tend to say "boom, headshot!" when people get hit in the head. Sometimes inappropriately.

Should be ~ "Be patient, strategic and create the opportunity for the kill."
Fidget 05-26-2009, 06:03 AM kill kill kill...will fail against better players.
Should be ~ "Be patient, strategic and create the opportunity for the kill." Undoubtedly true. But it would look lame printed on a T-shirt.;)

SuperBird 05-31-2009, 03:11 AM "STop yelling Out, Hit that ****!!!!"
Mark A 05-31-2009, 04:42 AM My own personal mantra is "hit it downwards".
Others I've heard include the ever-popular "hit it where they aren't", "hit it where they least want it" and, probably my favourite, "don't pat it - T**T IT!" (which will probably only make sense to the Brits;)).
A couple of anti-mottos (i.e. phrases to decry bad play) have surfaced at our club as well - "poor standard", "weak", and, the ultimate putdown, "not good enough at this level".

Amin Khalili 06-10-2009, 01:07 PM "what the hell does try mean"

you know how in pro matches
the first scrore the umpire calls is love all?
love all means both teams have 0
and next point would be love - 1
so love mean the person has 0 points
mettayogi 06-29-2009, 12:16 AM The origin of the use of "love" for zero is also disputed; it is possible that it derives from the French word for the egg (l'œuf) because an egg looks like the number zero. "Love" is also said to derive from "l'heure" or "the hour" (more likely to be translated as "the time") in French. Another possibility of the origin comes from the Dutch "iets voor lof doen," which means to do something for nothing. The word 'lof' (nothing) has changed over time to 'love'

GameGod 09-02-2009, 10:46 AM Here it is:
"Beat the people that are better than me (i.e. 4 people in my age group for my club), beat the people that are worse than me, and beat/surpass my coaches and my dad. Never hold back against anyone in my league."
I am not actually likely to beat either my coaches, my dad or more than 2 of my current superiors (as the last 2 are absolute monsters, for want of a better word), but there's nothing wrong with trying, is there?
Shifty 09-06-2009, 05:51 AM that's not really a motto so much as a goal...

For me , there is no point of even getting on the court , if you think you are going to lose.
dorysan 09-06-2009, 02:28 PM for next times my name is Dory...
just an little story how i got that motto:
it was the first stage in the Israeli national tournament U17
i was vs some guy that even my couch didn't come to see me playing...
few moments before it i ate some food...so i was in 100% done (dead lol)
first point. im serving...
my first thought was "lets show everyone how you do it"
and in 10-5 for me. no one was playing on the other courts.
just looking on my game
and i won the first set..
in the second i was a bit confused "how the hell i did that?"
so i started to play easy and saved some strength for the 3th set
i lost in the second on 19
3 set was the best one... 21-13
for me...
from that day it is the only thought in the head when im playing
the sad thing was that i lost in the other game
cuz i was dead cant move at all
chrisnchips 09-09-2009, 04:10 AM in reply to when i win
