Was going through my daily hockey blogs when i came across this little find:
http://thepowerplay.net/2009/02/badminton-with-devin-setoguchi.html
There's a video at the bottom of the post where Devin Setoguchi explains why he enjoys playing the game. In general i think this is some positive exposure for the sport.
BUT...the guy needs to work on his technique... Him being in San Jose and all i'm sure he lives close to some badminton clubs where he could train properly if he really wants to cross train during the hockey off season.
DinkAlot, you should get in touch with this guy. He seems to have Panda like powers....

I'm a fellow San Jose player, I should probably look for this guy.

My friend who works at Smash City actually invited him to go play there when she went to get his autograph not that long ago. He said he would check their website out and then tell her if he would visit one day. But he hasn't visit yet.

I think I caught a glimpse of this as well somewhere but didn't think the items were related to each other so didn't check it out. Once read a few of the finnish players play badminton as well in their time off ...
Didn't this guy play in the YoungStars game during all-star weekend?

I think Bobby and Will Milroy have a brother Duncan who was drafted by the Montreal Canadians and played for the Hamilton Bulldogs a few years back. Before that he was a junior national triple crown badminton champion in Canada.
Interesting to see that AHL-level hockey player in Canada = top level badminton player

He needs:
1. footwork lessons
2. swing lessons
3. serve lessons
4. backhand lessons
5. a new grip :D
PS: He also needs to switch to feather... but that's not going to sit well with a few members here :p

Yeah, he makes 1.2 mil a year, he should be able to afford some feathers

when he was playing, i believe he was using feathers...if you look carefully as he was serving, the feather was a bit broken and ruffled...at the END it was a plastic as he poses...did anyone also notice the horrible BK school rackets he was using? check out the tension sounds as he was hitting...ugh ><...

Considering what ice hockey is played with (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hockey_puck), he should find 'shuttlecock' a far less funny name ;)

Apparently, Duncan was the most talented of the Milroy brothers in badminton. Obviously his love for hockey superseded that for badminton. Unfortunately he never made it big in pro hockey

Hey, let's not get down on the exposure badminton gets, especially in North America. Any time an athlete in the big 4 North American Sports (sorry NASCAR fans ;)) testifies badminton helps his game, we should embrace it instead of nit-picking on his technique or giggling on his giggling on the word shuttlecock. If we're to be so elitist about our great sport, who would want to join in?

Exposure is always good but it's kind of sad that he has to explain the game with the expectation that his audience have no idea what it is.

I didnt get it until now.
Yea, I'm happy people might actually watch that and know its a real sport : ).
Man, I wanna kick those people in the face who thinks it is so easy. Just this week a few days ago I heard someone say, "How can you lose in badminton, its so easy?" Then I wanted to tell her off, lol. But I had to get to class.

One of the many things I do to trump the disdainful is show them a video of a Men's Doubles match. The one I have in my PSP is the 2001 All England MD Final (Sigit Budiarto & CandraWijaya vs Tony Gunawan & Halim Heryanto).
That usually shuts them up pretty quickly (especially if you get them to plug in the earphones).
And when they comment (slack-jawed, wide-eyed and all) that it is "wow, fast" or "man, that's intense", I end by saying:
'Um, that was over eight years ago." ;)
somebody give this guy some free badminton lessons!
and give up tennis already. ;)

But this is why he gets such a good workout. All the movements are highly inefficient.

The Minnesota Wild have signed Duncan Milroy to a two-way contract.
Just an FYI. Milroy played five games with the Montreal Canadiens in the 2006-07 season garnering one assist. He played last season for Ingolstadt of the German Elite League where he had 14 goals and 48 points in 49 games. The 26-year-old should play for Houston of the AHL next season.
Source: Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune
Duncan Milroy is the brother of Canadian badminton players Bobby and William Milroy.

Or it could $$$ to pick ice hockey than baddy. Maybe Duncan is smarter than his brothers keep losing in first rounds making nothing while if gamble in hockey pay out, an average hockey player earns >CAD$500K a year amd women in Canada digs hockey players.

He's only a minor league player. I read they earn in the neighbourhood of $70K a year, which is a far cry from what NHL players command. Canadian chicks must dig toothless guys :D:p
