India wins bid to host 2009 World badminton Championship
JAISHREE BALASUBRAMANIAN KUALA LUMPUR, DEC 9 (PTI)
India today won the bid to stage the 2009 World Badminton Championship, paving the way for the country to host its first-ever world championship in an Olympic sport.
India won the bid to host the event after the International Badminton Federation decided in New Delhi's favour at its Council Meeting here.
Denmark and Macau, who were also in the race to host the championship, withdrew their candidature in favour of India.
"It will be the first ever world championship (except cricket) given to India to host in all Olympic sports put together," an elated V K Verma, President of the Badminton Association of India, who is also the Vice President of the International Badminton Federation, told PTI here.
Verma said the unanimous decision was taken by the IBF, which has 160 member countries, after a presentation by India highlighting the country's tourist attractions, its economic strength, its population base for such events, the proven credibility of Indian establishment and the government's full support for hosting a competition of such magnitude.
The championship is held annually and the hosts are announced four years in advance.
More than 500 sportsmen from 50 countries will take part in the championship in New Delhi scheduled for September 2009, he said.
"The Indian Olympic Association has acknowledged this event as a curtain raiser for the 2010 Commonwealth Games," the BAI President said.

Good for India. I saw a young female single player from India during the WC2005. She was quite good. Hopefully, this will allow more participation of badminton in India.
I think this is great.

NEW DELHI (AFP) - The 2009 world badminton championships have been shifted from the Indian capital of New Delhi to the southern city of Hyderabad, an official said on Friday.
The change was made due to the delay in renovation work being carried out at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi, which is also the venue for the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
"Hyderabad has excellent badminton facilities and will be a good place to hold the world championships," Indian badminton chief V.K. Verma said.
"The world body approved the change after we told them the New Delhi stadium may not be ready in time."
The world championships are scheduled for August 10-16 next year

The location is not Gouch Bouli.
It is correctly: Gachibowli.
Gachibowli is a software township - it's one of the biggest Asian IT centres.
It's actually a suburb of Hyderabad - so, it is just another 'city drive'.
The place is home to several top-rung educational institutions, software majors and financial giants.
These include the University of Hyderabad, the ISB (Indian School of Business), the IIIT (International Institute of Information Technology), Microsoft IDC, Wipro, CA, Infosys, NVIDIA, CMC, Franklin Templeton, UBS and Bank of America.
Gachibowli has world-class sporting infrastructure and is also the regional sports development centre.
It has several large stadia, including one for athletics, one for hockey and one for indoor sports... and this is where the Indian Open and the World Championships will be held.
Have fun :)

The stadium though can only accommodate 4000 pax, wonder if tickets will be an issue ...... :(

well LCW has strong opinions after his IO experience.
http://sports.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Other-Sports/Badminton/Lee_tells_India_to_improve_conditions_/articleshow/4318222.cms
frankly,
food is sometimes used as an excuse many of the times by foreign players/teams across sports when they play in India but it is part of the experience of overcoming and adapting to conditions when you play anywhere abroad.
players were freezing Korea during the KO Super Series but they participated & performed....
as far as umpiring standards are concerned - yes improvements can be made. the current tournament features 2 senior Indian international umpires - Girish Natu & Arpinder Singh. The other umpires are all National level umpires certified by the BAI and have been consistently umpiring tournaments in the domestic circuit.
the issue is with line judges and this issue is not alien at even high intl level events case in point being the debate abt line calls during the china opens

The Europeans & the Orientals will have a bigger issue with food adaption. Frankly I think Malaysians will have the least problem as Indian cuisine is easily available in Malaysia, unless you talk of hygiene which can be a issue in any country where roadside stalls and hawkers are concerned.
India is an interesting nation & hopefully, all will turn all good in the WC 09.

Between freezing weather and food poisoning, I would say one can do something about the weather in keeping warm but food poisoning when it strikes, there's not much besides medication and hope that the process will ride out before one's match. My badminton kaki who had it once said acute physical weakness followed his unfortunate bout so he had to give his badminton a miss that day.So credit should be given to the WR1 for staying on court despite his misery and greater credit to the WJC for being able to seize the opportunity to make early history.
Food is an important element for an important match. Why do you think PG brings his breakfast packs from home?It makes sense for INA team to bring their own instant food packs and maybe MAS too.If I were going to India, I would pack bottled water from home to last the tournament as a first priority. This is a simple but essential option.
For IO, it's expected to have line judges of the China Open substandard but for WC ,that's just not good enough. Last year some line judges were ready to spoil the finals but the umpires were excellent and overruled promptly to stop the rot.I can't say most of the international BWF umpires have that level of mental alertness to overrule.
Whether the organisers are going to put in the effort to right complaints is their choice. But they have to remember the WC is gonna have global badminton coverage and is an excellent opportunity to showcase India or mess up its image.I would get the India Tourism Board as a sponsor to help finance some problems since it's an excellent platform to extend their mileage.(Badminton fans have money;the difference is they spend big in a quiet way.)
As for LCW,it's ridiculous to say that some will skip WC for fear of food poisoning.Would he, would LD? JUst be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.I would even bring 'bak kwa' and cream crackers as snacks on top of the bottled water and order KFC and eat the chicken minus the yummy skin for good measure.
Sometimes LCW does not know he's tired physically when he is.R1 exits is the best way to force him to take an unscheduled holiday. Then he will be ready for worse hazards than food poisoning in WC in August.

..i've been thinking about these 2 factors, as the WC is approaching. Not only with the food, but the environment/temperature. Considering the WC, this yr, will be played in an environment where it will most likely favor the SE Asian players, i do hope players from the Northern latitude countries will be prepared. I know India is nowhere near the SE Asian region, but to an extent i thought abt LinDan, who in the past has had troubles playing and competing in SE Asian region (except in M'sia). That's why, IMO, LCW stands a chance & should really be prepared for the WC.

think this will make for good reading:
Come to Hyderabad! - Dev S Sukumar.DNA
Those who can make it to Hyderabad for the World Championships should not miss the opportunity, for the city is a fascinating place.
Pi Hongyan, looking around her team hotel on the outskirts of Hyderabad, asked if there were any interesting places close by. The team hotel is in the middle of a rocky place that has been ripped apart to make way for new constructions. Told that the city was an hour away, Hongyan looked surprised and said: "So, basically we are in the middle of nowhere?"
Those who can take the trouble of the one-hour journey will find that Hyderabad is easily among the most vibrant cities in India -- a raucous, colourful place that can be fascinating for both Indians and outsiders. The city flaunts both its kingly past and technological present, and bears the stamp of various cultures that have inhabited it. Much of its Mughal legacy is still visible in the old city, and a walk through its narrow bylanes is really a trip through time.
Among the many monuments are Charminar, a memorial in the centre of the old city. The place comes alive at night, with hawkers and vendors selling the most unusual stuff. The most arresting feature of Hyderabad is the glittter at night... bangle-sellers, jewellers, cloth merchants all adding to the sparkle.
Do not miss a visit to one of the many 'Irani tea houses' around the minar. Hyderabadi tea is unlike any other -- it is a thick, milky concoction that one can nurse for an hour. Hyderabadis love their tea houses. No place in India has so many, and you will find people at these tea houses at every time of the day and late into the night. Hyderabad's tea houses serve the purpose of pubs and inns elsewhere -- people sit around and gossip over their tea and Irani biscuits.
Hyderabad is also famous for its biriyani and other Mughal cuisine, and has a reputation as a city of pearls. It is a great place for shoppers, and equally for those who are interested in cultures. Hyderabad, to some extent, has managed the tricky task of retaining the past and yet embracing the future.
Visitors, though, should be prepared for vast crowds in the market-places, and insane traffic! The auto (tuk-tuk) drivers here are the craziest in India, perhaps in the world -- they drive at heart-stopping speeds, weaving past pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles with less than an inch to manoevre -- all the time, of course, turning back to talk to passengers, and guiding the auto with one hand and holding a mobile phone in the other! Those who have a taste for adventure need not go sky-jumping or rock-climbing -- they can hitch a ride on one of the autos.
Badminton players tend to miss much of this, because events are held at the Gachibowli stadium nearly 15km away. The stadium is part of a sports complex that came up some six years ago outside Hyderabad. The new city has grown around Gachibowli, and one can live there without ever having to come to the city. But the new city has no charms of its own -- it is dependent on the IT economy and the place is full of concrete structures built over what was once rocky outcrop.
The first India Open in 2007 was cancelled because of twin blasts that rocked the city a week earlier. The 2008 India Open went ahead without any mishaps. Concerns have been expressed about the World Championships -- but visitors should free themselves of all anxieties. The perpetrators of the 2007 blasts have been arrested and hopefully we have heard the last of them. Besides, Gachibowli is too far away from Hyderabad for any such incident to affect it. Security at the India Open has been tight -- with gun-toting security men frisking everybody, including journalists.

I think for this coming WC, LCW rather than bringing his usual organic vitamin E face moisturizing cream, face whitening cream, neck n face tightening cream, anti aging face cream, cleanser, microfiber hair wrap etc , he ought to bring along 2 cartons of Mamee noodles, 1 carton of Yeo Hiap Seng's curry chicken, 200 sticks of frozen chicken satay and ketupat, 10 cartons of Alpine mineral water, 20 cans each of Campbell chicken n beef soup, 10 cans of sardines .............................. and maybe a box of Durex pleasuremax (just in case he gets another 1st round kinda thing and will have time on his side to explore Hyderabad)

If you guys want to move around, you have to master the public transportation system ( a combination of the old and the new). The autos (tuk-tuk type), old and new taxis and buses have quite a number of depots around major pts of the cities. The depots themselves might not look much, a few were just major road intersection pts.
Horns blaring and weaving about is std feature. Those who feel like renting and driving cars should think twice. In India, the road is used for anything. Well at least it isn't as bad as in Chennai.

Bak Kwa, I think is a cantonese word for some kind of charm to ward off evil spirit...I could be way off in my guess, maybe pjswift could confirm that.
Now talk about Yeo Hiap Seng's curry chicken, we can't even get this stuff in grocery store here and for 200 sticks of MAS satay 'chicks' and ketupat....and our one and only 'tipu' MAS restaurant closed up recently...Oh man! can we order some?:p:D

I beg to differ.
The weather is decidedly beyond Lee Chong Wei's control.
But what he eats (and where he eats) is surely within his control ;)
Indeed, if he were hit by food poisoning, he has only himself to blame.
When you know and have been warned about the crocodile in the pool, it makes no sense to jump in and then blame others.
Also, it's unfair to downplay Chen Long's victory as one enabled by his rival's (alleged) misadventure with contaminated food. Quite simply, Chen Long was the better player in Hyderabad.

If I were going to India, I would pack bottled water from home to last the tournament as a first priority. This is a simple but essential option.
That's like carrying coal to Newcastle (or racquets to China.)
Coca Cola bottles its Kinley brand in India.
Pepsi bottles its Aquafina brand in India.
Um, their daily sales are in millions.
For IO, it's expected to have line judges of the China Open substandard but for WC ,that's just not good enough. Last year some line judges were ready to spoil the finals but the umpires were excellent and overruled promptly to stop the rot. I can't say most of the international BWF umpires have that level of mental alertness to overrule.
Could someone point out one good reason why any line-judge at the India Open would favour Chen Long over Lee Chong Wei?
Whether the organisers are going to put in the effort to right complaints is their choice. But they have to remember the WC is gonna have global badminton coverage and is an excellent opportunity to showcase India or mess up its image.I would get the India Tourism Board as a sponsor to help finance some problems since it's an excellent platform to extend their mileage.(Badminton fans have money;the difference is they spend big in a quiet way.)
Actually, the World Championships is no big deal.
Big sports tourneys are an everyday staple in India.
And average crowds are in the region of 70,000.
India has nearly a dozen dedicated TV sports channels.
Where is the content for these coming from?
If it could host (to cite just a few) major events like the Asian Games, the World Boxing Championships, the World Cup Cricket and the World Junior Badminton Championships, the event in August isn't going to pressure anyone.
It's the BWF and the BAI who need to get their act together.
The rest are always ready to go :)
Australians, New Zealanders, Britishers, West Indians, South Africans, etc have been touring the Indian sports circuit for nearly a hundred years. To my knowledge, not one match or tournament has been postponed, cancelled or otherwise affected by 'food poisoning'.
I wonder if it's Lee Chong Wei first time in India.
The ignorance clearly shows through.
Sometimes LCW does not know he's tired physically when he is. R1 exits is the best way to force him to take an unscheduled holiday. Then he will be ready for worse hazards than food poisoning in WC in August.
He will be up against these hazards sooner than the WC.
These hazards have a new name - China's players :D

Safe drinking water is not difficult to get here. Safe food too.
Of course there are certain ways of life in Hyderabad that visitors need to get used to (like how everything is done and centres on the very roads you travel). Could come as a culture shock for some. Yet the South Indian people are humble and helpful, and the city is undergoing mass infrastructure renewal.

Oldhand,I never knew your comprehension of my posts can be so bad but clearly the differences in perception must have affected it.
Of course CL played better than LCW in R1;how else could he have taken out the WR1?But what I don't understand is the fuss over the loss.As long as LCW knows why and how he lost that's what matters. Why would he waste time and energy accounting for it?Maybe that's just WR1 behaviour.
Naturally CL would give LCW a harder time than HH.HH did not have to try to hard to beat CL.So HH>>>CL>>>LCW???
That's like carrying coal to Newcastle (or racquets to China.)

I've never been to India. But I've been advised by friends who have been and suffered from their ignorance. They only have good intentions for me.Maybe some people are more sensitive to water quality differences than others.(What's that gotta do with fizzy drinks?)Sometimes when you travel and the hotel is not well located, you can't even buy bottled water.(Is that a problem with the official hotel?) I'm not classy enough to pay for Perrier at hotel prices. Also during tournaments, there won't be much time for 'shopping' unless you have local guides. It's so easy to get dehydrated during travel, the most important 'food' to me is water. With a 23kg luggage allowance,it doesn't hurt to bring my own supplies unless the hotel can guarantee the same at around the same price as and when requested. Why not minimise other inconveniences within my control so that I can maximise my time watching matches which is the key objective of the trip in the first place?
Could someone point out one good reason why any line-judge at the India Open would favour Chen Long over Lee Chong Wei?
No idea. Why don't you do a survey? There are enough posters here game for having fun at LCW's expense, with mods approval, of course.

True, WC is no big deal. Why bother to want to host it at all?
But really, India Tourism Board's job is to bring in tourists. Why should they be concerned about sports audience in India? What is important is how much it costs to reach out to tourists. In advertising, one measure is called CPM or the cost of reaching 1000 prospects. If the budget is affordable and the CPM is relatively low, it is an attractive option to them. It's just an idea from my advertising experience in advising clients where to put their money. I'm not forcing it or asking to be paid for it.As it is, badminton's problem is getting sponsors. If you have no idea how to sell or how they make decisions, how is badminton gonna get enough sponsors?

CHN players are overrated.
Remember LCW used to have to beat 3 CHN players to win a title? Now he only has to deal with two or even just one to achieve the same.Life is getting better for him.
In fact CHN MS are having a hard time.Look at ABC.The upcoming non-CHN MS know about BCL and CJ's styles but for the first time both don't have manuals to work on because the top 3 non-CHN MS are not there.Even worse, the top 3 non-CHN MS are not there to help take care of some fast improving non-CHN MS for them. And the venue is Korea.I'll be impressed if either BCL or CJ can win the title.

It's their job to say that, if only to show they are responsible govts and have discharged their responsibility.
I can say that if it were Mumbai, Delhi or anyway in North India, I would have concerns too.
Security measures in Indian port of entries now are even tighter than the ones in Malaysia.
Within the stadium complex, security was improved on a daily basis, tracker dogs and gun totting guards deployed within the arena.
Let's wait for further developments before we pass judgement.

I have a constitution like LCW (no, not really, only 1/10 of what he is :D) but I will have the same problem as LCW with curry and dal if it has lots of stratococchi's (I think that is the word).
So I will take a 'rain cheque' on this tournament.:)

Ran all the info on this thread through an Indian ex-colleague of mine ((idk if he is from Hyderabad but he seems to know enough!) :
Gachibowli is a software township - it's one of the biggest Asian IT centres. It's actually a suburb of Hyderabad - so, it is justTrue, but he said, it's mostly non-serious kids coming in to watch and they don't really stick till the end of matches....or something like that. He meant that viewing it wouldn't be a problem.
But ahem I think it would be a little chaotic with the crowds and all!
check out the, ahem, "walking distances"...In the heat? You must be joking :p...the subway stop is not really very close to the venue. hopefully there would be Tuk-tuks or a/c cabs....
what do you mean by " mannerism "?:D:Doh you know them...nodding heads, too much enthusiasm when they speak/tones etc..lol no offense meant :)
no noodles available easily in hyderabadjust like in malaysia or thailand, like your night bazaars, there is probably a lot of street food. avoid it and look for a decent hotel!
several very good Indian restaurants in & around the West L.A.where u at? i'm not in LA anymore but there indeed are awesome places (the ones in sf suck!). so good and a little expensive that at anytime there are more non-asians than indians lol. and according to my friends, that is good... cos that means they cook healthy, are moderate with the spices and pipe down on the cooking oil thing...
LCW rather than bringing his usual organic vitamin E face moisturizing cream, face whitening cream, ...Chong Wei'd probably get robbed if he carries that kinda 'fancy' stuff over there lol jk! ;)
Safe drinking water is not difficult to get here.My sources say there are lots of fake companies bottling water with fake brandnames and labels (thanks to corruption and stuff) that get busted reglarly but new ones keep springing up.. so i'd still be a little wary and drink only from the best brand/buy in bulk from the local dealer and get it delivered directly to my hotel room...
Regd security, it's not all that bad methinks.

Off Topic: I'm in L.A., but way on the east side of downtown area.:p
L.A. area is too big of a place, so I'm sure there are hundreds of Indian restaurants. I prefer to look for Indian buffet places. There's one in downtown Pasadena. Lunch buffet's price is reasonable and they'll fill you up...oh maaan, that curry dish...:p
If one wants a real, authentic & very strong Indian food in the L.A. area, there are a few establishments also..:p

'The medical term for food poisoning is gastroenteritis - known more commonly as Delhi belly, Montezuma's revenge or Torremolinos trots - and it's the commonest health problem to strike travellers abroad. Up to half of those visiting tropical regions are affected. Visitors to India are most at risk..' --- reference : http://www.ivillage.co.uk/health/ghealth/firstaid/articles/0,12709,181036_587910-1,00.html

If I go to Overseas Restaurant @ Jln Imbi, I will use chopsticks and have my rice in a bowl.
If I go to Raju Banana Leaf restaurant @PJ (next to La Salle PJ), I prefer to use my hands to dig in and really enjoy the full course.

Not too sure about that. The WC is no SO or Johor/Penang Open, you know.
And furthermore, it is tough to play in India. I mean the hotel food sucks. The restaurants outside the hotel cant be depended to serve quality and clean meals. Match officials are poor and maybe 'biased'. Inflight meals may not be clean as well. The LYB's factor. IBF maybe ought to change the venue of the WC to LCW's bedroom, this way food will no longer be an issue for LCW as his momma can cook for him daily etc.

India gains security OK to host badminton worlds
Associated Press - April 16, 2009 9:53 AM ET
NEW DELHI (AP) - Badminton's world governing body has granted security approval for Hyderabad, India, to host the world championships in August.
The president of the Badminton Association of India told The Associated Press on Thursday that the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has endorsed the security arrangements for the Aug. 10-16 worlds to be staged in the southern Indian city.
V.K. Verma says the report was presented to the BWF's executive board during its recent meeting in Basel, Switzerland, where the Indian organizers were given a go-ahead for the world championships.
Security has been a concern since six policemen and a driver were killed two months ago during a terror attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan.

What is 'bak kwa'??
Erm Bak Kwa is Barbequed Pork, chinese new year delicacy. usually quite ex.

For ctjcad who is far away, will have to plan well ahead. As for me, JB, it's just 3 hours drive. Should be np. Meanwhile, we will enjoy the WC first.:)

Hi Maypi, maybe you can join the Indonesian team and stay at the same hotel. There, you can mingle with all the players and coaches. I was with Ricky last week in JB and unfortunately my friends camera's battery was flat. On a personal basis, I think the Thomas cup is more exciting and may consider this trip next year.
dont worry Thomas cup has been in my schedule next year :D
hmm i dunno any Indonesian team, i really have no clue about India...
anyone in this forum go there??
it's during the long weekend in indonesia actually
so i dont need to take leave from my job
Quote from ctjcad:
..i thought you already attended the WC in 2007?? It's the same, except different venue and slightly different players involved..
ya it's true ive been in WC 2007, i like the atmosphere of wc that's why if i have a chance i wanna attend it again...
im a badminton lover and over the past year i can't attend many tournaments since im still studying and since im working now if i got chance ill attend any big scale tournaments..i wont miss it

There's not going to be any piggybacking whatsoever ....... wakakakaka :p. There is no formal group plan for this event, unlike Jakarta Thomas/Uber Cup 2008 where even the USA BC forummers were represented by their "senior squad".
But some of the forummers here are from India and could give any interested party pointers on what to expect.
My hope is that the ferocious drift problem at the stadium is addressed. Shuttles have been seen going out as far as 18 inches from a female player's push.

This sounded more like, understand the path you are walking on, mix adventure on those "suicidal" auto taxis with caution and keep your wits when observing all those, ahem, stuff that are done around Indian roads, and you will have a swell time. :D
But the threat of "bombs" are all too real, organic ones, that is. :p

Hi Guys, I am currently in hyderabad only and my office is hardly some 4 kms from the Gachibowli stadium, home is nearer some 3 kms. Currently the weather is pleasant and it is expected to be more cooler in a couple of days. With some 2 weeks to go, if any of you have any question in regard of anything, wheather, food, accomodation, tickets and all you can just shoot all of them at me and I will try my level best to get all of them resolved. I'll for sure be at the tournament (if my work doesn't come in between). We can even plan a BC get-together. Hope to see you all soon here.
P.S.- I will be visiting the satdium today for getting every information about the tickets and all. Will post them 2morrow.

Hey Bro Din,
Tell us more about your plans. I think Spore has a budget flight to Chennai but how do you go to Hyderabad from there? By train? And some details about your accommodation too. How many days there or is it going to be a weekend trip, arriving on Friday afternoon and leaving on Monday morning? :D

I am flying off to Chennai on 12th August evening, then another first domestic flight out to Hyderabad on 13th. Should be able to reach the Stadium around noon.
Leaving on 17th early morning 1 am.

Actually it is not too bad to be watching the WC in the comforts of your private lounge at home. :p
Days before the competition you can stock up all the makan2 and tidbits plus all your favourite drinks, including the cold refreshing beer, and place them in front of you at arms' length on the coffee table to be consumed at random while watch the proceedings.
Unfortunately you can't do this at the Hyderabad venue (One good thing I learn without having to go there is how to spell the name of the place correctly!;)). If you need to buy restricted tidbits and drinks and forget about food poisoning, you need to get up from your seat and make your way slowly to the stalls, careful not to knock onto the other spectators like you along the way.
You have to repeat the same procedure if nature calls, whereas at home nobody cares how often you go to the loo and in what attire. Naturally you put on the least without shoes to really make you feel at home. And you can control the room temperature with either fan or air conditioner. :)
If you are unfortunate enough to get a 'poor' seat at the venue, you may need to stretch your neck and turn your head every now and then to be able to watch properly, more so if you have very excited fans sitting in front, shouting and banging his long balloon clappers and perhaps beating a hand drum too! :( Nothing of this sort if you are watching at home. :D
Additionally, if your seat is too far away from the courts or your view is somehow obstructed, you will not be able to enjoy the court action. On the other hand, the skillful camera crew brings you all the relevant action clearly and in great variety. Different angles and positions, zoom-in for facial expressions of the players, for net clinging shots and close line-calls. Slow-motion replays can be shown in between. Even the speed of the smash can be recorded and shown on TV if the organizers have the equipment.
Can you get all these at the venue?
Even so, you need to pay quite a bit to fly to the venue and pay for transportation, hotel, food and tickets. And this takes away your time and you have to endure the journey by air and road and all their discomforts.
Maybe staying at home is a better proposition for now, especially when the swine flu is still flying about very strongly. :):):)

George, this private lounge should only be enjoyed by semi-retired folks like Loh, but not you. Your so-called private lounge is so limited.
The atmosphere cannot be fully transmitted to your lazy armchair. Case in point, the INA Open Finals. Great live atmosphere, but muted if you are just following TV broadcast.
You would be missing quite a lot of matches, those which would not be played on TV courts.
Most of all, you would be missing stuff that are NOT SHOWN on TV. Read my previous commentaries and all these add up to a Very Special Occasion.
Since we would eventually be getting what you would enjoy on TV anyway (by video sharing), obviously it is the superior option, to be at the venue during tournaments. But of course, there's a need to "invest".
Besides, there's nothing more painful and discomforting than work ...... so might as well take a break.

Nobody can argue with many of the benefits of watching live at the venue, that's why I still have to attend some tournaments in person. To soak in the atmosphere, to visit new places and to meet congenial BC buddies again.:D

Hi, all...
I've been in the stadium since 9th, and truly it needs more BC members to fire the crowds up. Locals only cheers while Indian players got point, and other cheers come from players bench, especially from China and European supported their teammates.
Might be its related with the security arrangement, swine flu issues, and ticket price, but, hey, this is world championship, and the players deserve more cheers and crowd...

Hey Copadh,
This is truly sad for me but even after having the tickets, I am completely stuck with my work in office and will be able to attend the semi's and the finals only as they fall on the weekend.:crying:

Ah, hullo again, copadh. Reporting live again, I see ......
I'm sure the situation will improve further from tomorrow onwards, with additional BC "heavyweights" arriving tonight and tomorrow morning.
Though I must say I am concerned with the lack of spectators, even India Open had more.

Abedeng the big reason why Indian Open had more spectators was because there was not this much security and the entry to the event was free.
hey, you should accompany John Burgess to make the commentary more interesting..in fact, u could make some part time pocket money too though.:D btw, john burgess did mentioned me(george@chongwei), limsy and daniel wong during his live commentary..i was shocked when he 1st mention it..;):D:D and blur at the same time.. John, where are you? please register and post here..i know u are here..hehe:p
Wah George is now more famous than Chong Wei and all credit should go to Mr Commentary to making you so! Hope you and limsy will not criticise him from now onwards but to defend his comments instead. :D:D:D

hallo again, abedeng...thanks to my job, I may say...
unfortunately could not do live report from the stadium, wifi is unreliable, sometimes on and most of the time is off....:D
R16 last night was better, some Indonesians were there, also children from Korea, French supporter stand for Lady Pi, all Europeans support Juliane against WYH, and of course local supporters have to support Indian princess...
(Saina really need that support against 'never to give up' Petya. Poor Petya, bad call in 3rd game cost her the match)
