View Full Version : Training Camps
krisss 03-09-2009, 12:37 PM Hello,
I wanted to ask if there was any really hard training camps around.
Like the ones where they stay their and train everyday.
I don't mind where it is , any country will do.
Recently one of my coaches went to a training camp , because he wanted to meet his former coach and loose weight. He went for 3 weeks and lost a wopping 6 stone!!!! I couldn't believe it!
Destricto_Ense 03-09-2009, 12:42 PM 6 stone!? Are you sure he didn't just hibernate in a cave?

BS, absolutely no way.
Six stones is 38.1 kg (84 pounds), 3 weeks is 21 days. Doing the math, he would have had to lose 1.8 kg per day. I'll be generous and say it's 1 kg of fat and 0.8 kg of retained water. 1 kg of fat is approximately 7700 food calories. Subtracting 2500 food calories for basal metabolic rate, leaves 5200 food calories that needs to be burned with exercise. That's approximately 10 hours of constant, competitive badminton per day needed.
Let's recap, I assumed that only 55% of the claimed weight loss was fat, and the rest was just water. To accomplish this feat, he would need to not eat for 3 week and play 10 hours of competitive badminton each day.
You shouldn't believe it, it's BS.
Destricto_Ense 03-09-2009, 04:16 PM Perhaps he meant 6kg.
krisss 03-09-2009, 05:07 PM lol :S sorry for the confusion :D
6 STONE IS CRAZY TALK
EVEN I KNOW THAT
DAVID BLAINE DIDN'T LOOSE THAT MUCH WHILE NOT EATING AND DRINKING FOR 40 DAYS I THINK :D
6kg , anyway I dont want to loose weight - was just using it as an example :D
But yh , I just wanted to train hard :D
smash_master 03-09-2009, 05:15 PM well i know theres some academys in denmark where players train year around but they also have it set up so you can go there and train for a month or more at a time if you want to, but it does cost alot. as for like the camp provides everything housing and all theres actually one in guangxi china this summer for a month. but im sure if you search around it wont be to hard to find theres usually lots of them and if i find anymore ill let you know about them for sure.
krisss 03-09-2009, 05:18 PM :D Smashmaster your the way to go :D
Cheers , I am really thinking about touring for one year , and taking a break from everything.
Thankyou one again SM :D
Destricto_Ense 03-09-2009, 05:20 PM I too would be interested in a badminton training camp. My range wouldn't be quite as extensive as "any country will do" though : P
krisss 03-09-2009, 05:22 PM :D destricto , its only any country will do because most other countries , the currencies are lower :D
Less money I have to spend.
:D
In england the camps are rediculous amounts of money :S.
Destricto_Ense 03-09-2009, 05:24 PM Perhaps, but the "getting there" and "accommodation" columns may counter-balance the benefits of travelling..
krisss 03-09-2009, 05:32 PM hmmm true true .
Sacrafices :-(
But yeah - I am really keen. Just to see other countries.
I'll be taking a gap year from school hopefully :D
But Smashmaster if you could keep me uptodate about any camps going on i would be very gratefull.
I heard that lots of international players train on mountians , because air is thinner , and then it makes you work harder , then you become better , because your body adapts. (not sure , but sounds good :D)
Who knows destricto maybe ill be training with you soon :D
Destricto_Ense 03-09-2009, 05:37 PM I would love to do some real badminton training, but I think Denmark is about as far afield as I could go. I'm also not sure that I have the talent to warrant a month of intensive badminton, as much as I would love it .. a week or two would be great though :)
RacketlonCanada 03-09-2009, 06:18 PM I know a badminton training camp in China, please contact me at info@racketlon.ca so I can screen you and to know if you're serious about it

Smash master any updates?
neavalmi0421 04-16-2009, 07:53 PM Just to give update on my side... i took my daughter (11 yo) on this in camp. It's around 80 KM from where we live and we just visited her every saturday to check up on her. The area is a province and no distractions from the participants. I tried to play with my daughter in Singles after two weeks of her training and i am proud to say that this training really paid off. Before i used to give +10 points to her (score starts at 10-0) when we play singles and i was surprised that she beats me on our first set (no plus this time). Though i won the 2nd and the decision game, i cannot give her anymore +10 points this time... And i am pretty sure that after this training, i cannot win any match at all with her.
I discussed with the coach that when school comes, we will just travel (whole family) there on Friday night so that she can continuously train every week the whole of Saturday and Sunday. My daughter btw is a elementary school(grade 5) varsity player that's why i am providing her this training.
Also, in the case of other players near their area, they train everyday during school days. They directly go to the court after school and train until 8pm or 9pm everyday.
smash_master 04-16-2009, 08:13 PM Yeah that looks good

Thanks for the message back. I had a look and it seems a possibility. Was after one for four weeks tho? Do you know of any others?
