Saina Nehwal at the 2009 India Open
It should to appropriate to follow http://static.tournamentsoftware.com/images/flags/IND.gif[IND] (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&c=IND)Saina NEHWAL (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/player.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&player=70) at the 2009 India Open.
Here, Saina is seeded No.2. She would need to defeat the following players before reaching the Finals, namely;
Seeded No.5: http://static.tournamentsoftware.com/images/flags/MAS.gif[MAS] (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&c=MAS)Julia Pei Xian WONG (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/player.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&player=73) (expected at the Quarter-Finals)
and then (expected at the Semi-Finals), either

Can Saina Nehwal make it to the 2009 India Open Finals?
.
Having looked at the draw again...
The biggest hurdle for Saina to clear could be at the Quarter-Finals, where http://static.tournamentsoftware.com/images/flags/MAS.gif[MAS] (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&c=MAS)Julia Pei Xian WONG [5] (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/player.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&player=73) is expected to be waiting for her.
Once clearing the QF, it might be certain that Saina will make it to the Finals.
All the Best to Saina Nehwal.

Chris, why don't you expect Saina to meet ZJJ in the semi final?? Why only LCLY and MKY?? haha... :D

Yup, ZJJ is a tough customer and Lydia is not up there yet. Maria Kristin is supposed to advance from that draw but she herself just returned from injury.

suetyan ...... As abedeng said, ZJJ is a tough customer. But MKY is one to beat at the Semi-Finals (depending on how she returned from her injury). But of course, this prediction could be all wrong.
I am going to PAW this way, anyway. My PAW record is not good at all. :o:o:o

Saina Nehwal turns 19; One week before the 2009 India Open
Yesterday, Tuesday March 17, just 7 days before the start of the 2009 India Open, Saina Nehwal turned 19.
On her birthday, Saina told Nikhil Taneja of Hindustan Times that she dreams of being World No.1 everyday.
A candid Saina interview: click here (http://www.hindustantimes.com/StoryPage/StoryPage.aspx?sectionName=HomePage&id=d0cb949a-c3d5-479d-8926-59bd5ec513e7&Headline=I+dream+of+being+No.+1%3a+Saina+Nehwal)

A 10-day Boxing and Kick-Boxing training running parallel to the Indian Open?:eek::eek:
Wouldn't it drain much energy from Saina? Why not before or after the Open?
Hope that Saina doesn't overdo it; and that she won't get injured.

The last time when both Lydia and Saina played well, they got to meet at the Finals. It was at the 2008 Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold. Saina defeated Lydia, 21-8, 21-19.
In Game 1, Lydia made too many unnecessary mistakes. Only in Game 2 that Lydia settled down; and at one stage she was at 18-all with Saina.
Lydia needs more international tournament exposure. Her confidence will increase when MAS sends her to more tournaments.

It is now confirmed that http://static.tournamentsoftware.com/images/flags/MAS.gif[MAS] (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&c=MAS)Mew Choo WONG (Seeded 3) (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/player.aspx?id=72F1F101-544B-4C1F-B8BE-11BB3296ADE8&player=72) shall be competing at the 2009 India Open.
So, it could be a 'Saina Nehwal-vs-Wong Mew Choo" WS Final; a final I'm wishing for. :):):)

Although her side of the draw appears to be less tough than the other, it's still packed with enough dark horses to make Wong Mew Choo's entry into the final highly unlikely :o

.
It was only 3 months ago, at the 2008 Super Series Masters Finals, when Saina Nehwal, Pi Hongyan and Wong Mew Choo were playing in the same Group Stage.
There, SN defeated both PHY and WMC. And PHY defeated WMC. However, WMC was playing with her injury.
Hope that WMC has now recovered well enough to defeat the dark horses, and make it to rematch against PHY at the Semi-Finals, and then against SN at the Finals.

I also just realise when I look at the tournament software :( Too bad can't see our superwoman in action again :( Not too sure what happened to her, but I think most probably is due to injury especially her waist injury

Yes it was a big disappointment to the Indian supporters and to Saina Nehwal herself.

Comment from Saina Nehwal:
I made too many unforced errors. I don’t want to offer any excuses. I was hasty, did not get my half-smashes and had to run around a lot. Wong played well and her backhand and forehand smashes were precise.
Comment from Julia Pei Xian Wong:
I was surprised she (Saina Nehwal) made so many mistakes.
