Good to see the young XD pairs winning their first matches today. Akhmad Tantowi/Richi Puspita Dili survived a scare after they saved one match pt in beating fellow young MAS pair Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid/Lim Yin Loo 21-16, 12-21, 24-22. I am sure they can beat their next opponent tomorrow for a place in the last 8. Richi is a talented girl and I think this pair will be a better pair than Devin Lahardi/Lita Nurlita in the LR. Tantowi himself had won a couple of GP titles with Yulianti and Shendy Puspa Irawati in the past 2 years. Let's give them 1 year first and 10 tourneys to climb up to at least top 20-25.

Meanwhile, Mohd Rijal/Debby Susanto got their first taste of victory after beating Alwin Francis/Jyotshna Polavarapu 21-11, 21-16. They should have a chance against the 4th-seed Baptiste Careme/Laura Choinet tomorrow.

The 3rd-seed Flandy Limpele/Vita Marissa will have a tough test against Shen Ye/Ma Jin tomorrow. Remember, Ma Jin just won the Swiss SS 10 days ago.

In the MS, Tommy Sugiarto reedemed himself with a good victory over P. Kashyap. I thought he will lose today. He should beat another Indian opponent shortly afterwards for a place in the last 16 where he could probably face the 7th-seed Sairul Amar Ayob.

No problem for Taufik Hidayat also, as the second seed strolled through the first round. He will face Hu Yun later today and then probably Arvind Bhat tomorrow for a place in the last 8. With Lee Chong Wei gone from the draw, only Chinese youngsters like Chen Long, Zhou Wenlong, or Qiu Yanbo will be a threat for his ambition to win the first title this year.

Hu Yun is now representing Team Hong Kong, not Macau :o Zhang Dan/Zhang Zhibo are representing Macau.

It's also good to see ALL of INA's 4 WD pairs progressing to the next round. 2 Pelatnas young pairs begin their partnerships with wins over Indian and Malaysian oppositions. Komala Dewi/Debby Susanto will now meet the top-seed from SIN Yao Lei/Shinta Mulia Sari tomorrow.

Annisa Wahyuni/Anneke Feinya Agustine also show why their bronze medal achievement at the WJC last year was not a fluke as they beat MAS's relatively more experienced pairing of Nairul Suhaida Abdul Latif/Goh Liu Ying. However, they will have a tough opponent in Tang Jinhua/Xia Huan tomorrow. Victories will be bonuses for both Pelatnas pairs.

As for the non-Pelatnas pairs, I was quite impressed with Vita Marissa/Nadya Melati's straight-sets victory over Wang Siyun/Zhang Jinkang. I think they should be able to beat Marylen Ng Poau Leng/Woon Khe Wei tomorrow, to set up a quarter-final match against the top-seed.

In the last match, Jo Novita/Endang Nursugianti struggled to beat the unknown Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa/Nitya Sosale 21-23, 21-15, 21-18. They should be able to progress to the QF too.

Bye bye to Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid/Teo Kok Siang as they lost to the more-experience Rupesh Kumar/Thomas Sanave. I would think that Teo Kok Siang will be better off continuing his partnership with Mak Hee Chun.

haha....maybe we will see teo patnering...erm...erm....lkw or cps....lutfi surely is a smasher...but...i think he work to much in xd match....vs ina pair...tough...hehe..anyway...hope they can improve more and more....

Andre Kurniawan Tedjono is through to R16 after a rubber-set victory over another Indian player. He will meet either Chong Wei Feng or Chan Kwong Beng tomorrow for a place in the last 8.
....

I was surprised Andre lost the 1st game that easily.... :p but he bounced back! Let`s see if Wifqi-Alfiat can surprise the seeded Malaysian MD... :D

I hope that 3 pairs can win today.

Edo/Lingga have taken the first set 21-17. Let's hope they continue with the momentum gained in the first set.

AG/Alvent also lead 16-5 right now. They should take this match!

Candra/Joko also have a slim 11-10 lead at the interval of the rubber-set.

Okay....Wifqi Windarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan lost to the more experienced Hoon Thien How/Lin Woon Fui 7-21, 18-21. Let's hope they improve further in the future!

Candra Wijaya/Joko Riyadi eventually prevail after they beat Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama/Wong Wai Hong in 3-sets: 12-21, 21-15, 21-15. They should have an easier time tomorrow against Sai Praneeth B./Pranav Chopra, before an expected QF clash against the 4th-seed Rupesh Kumar/Thomas Sanave.

As feared, Chai Biao/Liu Xiaolong turned the table on Edo/Lingga, leading 11-6 at the interval of the second-set  This might also go to the rubber-set.

Surprisingly, only 4 casualties from the INA team which include 2 expected defeats from the non-Pelatnas XD pairs. Wifqi/Afiat also lost to a seeded player, while Maria's loss was kinda understandable and expected as well (at least to me).

Good first results for the Pelatnas's new and young WD and XD pairs.

limsy ... There can only be 8x5=40 slots at the Quarter-Finals. If MAS can have 10 slots, I think MAS would be happy. :):):)

Thanks to all who commented on Day 2 matches. Some good reading.
Big disappointment that LCW was eliminated. Let's move on to Day 3.

If MAS players stop trying, then MAS might as well not have a team at all. :o:o:o

Lee, Chetan Anand make an early exit
World No. 9 and second-seeded Saina advances with ease

GIANT-KILLER: Chen Long, a former World junior champion, shocked World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei in the first round.

HYDERABAD: Former World junior champion Chen Long of China knocked out World No. 1 and top-seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia 7-21, 21-16, 21-18 in 50 minutes in the first round while Chinese Zhou Wenlong ousted second-seeded and World No. 12 Chetan Anand 21-9, 22-24, 21-8 in the second round of the $120,000 Yonex-Sunrise India Open Gold Grand Prix badminton championship at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.

After tailing 6-12 at one stage, the erratic Lee showed a few glimpses of his class in the decider to level the scores 18-all. But, a stunning backhand smash and then a disputed service call saw Chen take a 20-18 lead. Eventually, Chen emerged a deserving winner with a stunning forehand smash. Lee blamed his defeat on food poisoning and substandard umpiring.

Chetan was patchy in his game against Wenlong. Chetan said he found it difficult to push his strokes because of the draught. Chetan saved two match-points in the second game to extend the contest, but succumbed in the decider.

World No. 9 and second-seeded Saina Nehwal also complained about the draught, but managed to beat Chew Yen Daphne (Malaysia) 21-6, 21-10 in the first round.

The major upset in women’s section came when Beiwen Zhang of Singapore shocked Beijing Olympics bronze medallist and fourth-seeded Maria Kristin Yulianti (Indonesia) 18-21, 21-11, 21-19 in the first round.
