I'm looking into buying a new racket for a friend. She has pretty weak arms. She was using my AT900T before and it seemed ok except she couldn't get a lot of power out of it. So, I was leaning towards getting an AT600 for her. Would you consider the AT600 to be a ladies' racket?

I don't really want to get her an Arc9 cuz another friend has that racket already and they don't want the same racket. Anyone got any recommendations? Preferrably Yonex, price is not really an issue. Thanks.

Well yeah , The armortec 600 would most likely to be a good racket.

- It is reasonbly flexible , and a very forgiving racket.

- It is 4U - so quite light.

- And it is only slightly head heavy , so may help on the power side of things.

But to be honest if your a beginner the racket doesn't make a difference , but you said money is no matter :D.

hahahaha, girls hate see another girl wearing same clothes or using the same racket:D If u can find one, also try MP66, armortec300, 4U MP88. Most of the lower end Nanospeed would be suitable too i havent tried them before.

You might want to look outside the yonex brand, I know a lot of girls who have really snappy shots with forza rackets. Pretty much anything in the forza asian-armour series. If you have to go yonex, i would say ti5 light if you can get 1. Black knight has a lot of good rackets too, the Powerchannel series is a bunch of flexi-light rackets. Also, strings are very important, maybe she has some cheap fishing line on that at 900. Badminton isn't about strength, it's all about technique, which can take years too develop, timing is especially crucial.

hmmm.. I'll probably just get her the AT600 since it seems like it'll suit her nicely. It's a gift anyway, so I don't mind spending a bit of money.

She was using my 4U G4 AT900T with BG80 @ 23lbs and I think it was too stiff for her. Hopefully the flex in the AT600 will be just right.

I ordered some NBG98 strings and hopefully that will help with some repulsion.

Wouldn't the Nanospeed 9900 be a bit stiff for a beginner?

Matt

NS99K, would be too stiff! Possibly she could go with an ARC7.

alexkho
04-14-2009, 02:09 PM
it's stiff but not very hard to get use to ... the balance is even and it's pretty light

the slim head making it very easy to swing i have a girl at my club beginner level uses it
well i lend her my NS9900 and she seem able to generated pretty good clear with it

Given that no money involved here. What do you want.
A good looking girl using a guy's racquet and kicking your @$$.
Or a bad looking girl in front of you with a ARC9 and you have to feed her the shuttle?
Take your pick.

Stepping slowly towards being back on-topic......................

I'd probably go for the AT600 for the reasons krisss listed. The Arc7 or Arc9 wouldn't be bad choices either but IMO, the AT600 is the best choice (I'm sure recently I've recommended the AT600 more than all of the Karakal rackets )

:D it is an amazing racket - the only reason I am not getting it is because it is not in 3U :crying:.

Yes, it would of been nice to get it if it were to be available in 3U. My friend has the too mainly because of the paint job.

newtype
04-14-2009, 08:25 PM
Yea.. I ended up getting the AT600 cuz the paint job is pretty nice and I think it will suit my friend more.

I just need to wait for my NBG98 strings to come in for that racket. Hopefully, the strings will help compensate for her lack of power.

The strange thing is that, it doesn't seem that much head-lighter than my AT900T... weird.

NGB98? Umm, probably not advisable because the the string is repulsive however it lacks the control especially if she is a control/touch player.

Lead it up. As long as you put as much on the head as you did on the handle, the balance would remain the same and you wouldn't need much anyway.

So..... it ended up that she doesn't like the head-heaviness of the AT600. So, I went and got her a NS6000 instead.

hi newtype!, seeing that you're from vancouver, i'm curious how much did you pay for the ns6000 if you dont mind sharing. Vancouver is a horrible place to get rackets because the price varies so much from place to place.

I got mine for $170 unstrung. You can go to Tad's and see.

But I have found out that their are 3u versions available but only available in asia :D.

So its back on the list of rackets I want :D

At600 is still heavy head. Suggest a 4U and moderate head balance from apacs(all Yonex 4u seem to head heavy) which will also cost less and more playable for ladies.

Why not try NS7700 very light and it suit for ladies. The shaft medium stiff and strung with BG80 (23lbs) would be easy for her:D
