Which suburbs in VIC have most badminton players?
Hi radar_s ,
If you look at our Badminton players in Melbourne, you will find that they are mainly from Asian countries (mainly around the South East Asia, China and India regions). Therefore I am sure that if you can check which suburbs are having most of thIs population mix, you would probably find the answer for your small research.
Btw, do you still have the same shuttlecocks that our club obtained from you the last time? Please email me at chris@cccbadminton.com.
Cheers... chris@ccc

I live in Burwood East and I pretty much play whenever I have the chance - at a whole lot of venues all over the place.
Mondays = Springers Leisure Centre, Keysborough (7:45pm-11pm)
Tuesdays = Deakin University, Burwood (6:30pm-9pm) or Glen Waverley S.C, Glen Waverley
Wednesdays = MSAC, South Melbourne (7:30pm-11pm)
Thursdays = Aqualink Box Hill, Box Hill (7:30pm-10pm) or Glen Waverley S.C, Glen Waverley
Fridays = MSAC, South Melbourne (7:30pm-11pm) or Waverley Christian College, Wantirna Sth (7:30pm-10:30pm)
Saturdays = Don't play but there is a session at WCC, Wantirna Sth (8pm-10:30pm)
Sundays = MDBA, Kilsyth (7pm-10:30pm)
Out of all those venues, MDBA Kilsyth is by far the best venue. I played there as a junior from 2004-05 and it's still my favourite venue.

Junior I've played at most of those venue you've listed and more ... Kilsysth does seem to have a larger regular turn out ... but i wouldnt call it anywhere near the best venue .. nothing to do with the players or organisers .. all are great .. but the courts are hard cement and the lighting is shocking .. some courts are too dark, and some blindingly bright.... not to mention the freezing cold temperature inside the stadium as well :)
If its venue .. then MSAC with its proper badminton carpeted court 7 -12 is the best venue to play badminton on. lighting good, stadium temperature good .. all good :)

Well I guess it all depends on personal preference. I find that Kilsyth is the best, the lighting is decent (not directly on top of the court so you can't see the shuttle - a problem with a lot of other venues) and the courts actually don't bother me. The courts are in fact a bit larger than other courts around. I do however, like MSAC as well. The teraflex courts at the rear are top notch compared to the polished timber ones at the front. Chris' CCC Badminton club which I attend most Wednesdays uses these courts.
Out of all the well known venues, I've yet to try Altona. Any opinions on the WSBA centre?

Altona, has a social on saturday from 3:30pm to 6:00pm
It can be a little dark, when they have the lights off on some of the courts near you, but if the whole stadium has all it's court lights on its not so bad.
In term of player comfort .. its as cold as Kilsyth. It terms of court cost .. its one of the more expensive court hire per hour anywhere.
.. yeah just played at Kilsyth tonight .. and the lighting didnt seem so bad after all ... must of remembered it wrong or they're upgraded the lighting since the last time i was there :)

There's a social every Sunday night in Kilsyth, which is in the eastern suburbs.
It's located at the Kilsyth Sports Centre, Liverpool Rd, Kilsyth.
Good atmosphere, good lighting, only thing that may be a problem are the courts, their all concrete so it may cause injury if your an avid jump smasher for example. Very friendly people, which in my opinion, makes it the best social around. I played there as a junior and it's my favourite venue in Melbourne. It's $5/pp with shuttles provided, Up to 6 courts are used depending on the amount of players attending (usually at least 20-25).

That's the thing. ;););)
Many 'Competitive players' do not play 'Social Badminton'. They are looking for more challenging/competitive matches. They are looking for blood. :o:o:o
Similarly, many 'Social players' do not play 'Competitive Badminton'. They are just looking for social interaction. :):):)
The problem is - Some players have not decided what they want/need : To play competitively, or to play socially, and/or both?
IHMO, to play socially, we turn up at Badminton Social Clubs.
To play competitively, we turn up at Badminton Competition Tournaments.
But, of course, we can still turn up at Badminton Social Clubs, without looking for blood. :p

IMHO, in a Social Club, it's best that everyone play together, regardless of different skill levels. Have a read of this thread: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78628
