Badminton: Pei Tty-Eei Hui must protect No. 1 spot to be top seeds in world meet

By RAJES PAUL

KUALA LUMPUR: National doubles pair Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui have a tall order ahead of them.
The duo are hoping to go into the history books as the first Malaysian women’s pair to be top seeded for the World Championships in Hyderabad, India, from Aug 10-16.
But for that to happen, they must still be ranked No. 1 in the world when the tournament comes along.
And the only way for them to safeguard their world No. 1 status is by doing well in the Sudirman Cup in Guangzhou (May 10-16) and Singapore Open (June 9-14).

Remember there was a year where Roslin Hashim was rated world #1 but got knock out in the first round? I just hope it won't happen again to our WD pair.
We will have better idea about the true strength of this pair after the Sudirman Cup where action speaks louder than "world ranking" ? :D

... this is typical "Ah Q Spirit" (you know what I mean if you know the famous Chinese writer Lu Xun)...

... they do be the top seeds in many tournaments in the past few months, but what's achieved? not as many champions... so wha't the point of having such a symbolic tall order?? they could be top seed in WC, facing a lower-rank Chinese WD pair and lost...

i mean the main point is not the seeding, but should be what you would be really able to achieve on the court for major honours!!! What about the Chinese team win the Sudirman Cup when they were only the 3rd seed, and where is the top seed Denmark???

sometimes I feel sad for Malaysian badminton, as the badminton community there seemed to be so desparated in not able to arrive some more real achievements and then appeal to some easy way out...

so why not learn from the Chinese team, put up a good plan for winning the WC, and if necessary as part of the preparation, skip the forthcoming super series!!!

no one would care your seed number if you win the championship, but it would just be a joke if you fight hard before the WC to keep the top seed and win nothing at WC!!!

... and a real champion would not care about the seeding because they believe they could beat anyone on their road to champion...

... guess you intend to title the thread as "WD Malaysia top seed"???

as LD in this forum always refer to Lin Dan, whilst Women's Double as WD..

It is not WPT/CEH fault that CHN absence result in them getting WR1 rank. Agree that they could be eliminated if they face CHN pair who are the real superpowers in WD. WPT/CEH are not gonna win any big tournament but WR1 meant more than winning tournament. They are at the twilight of their career. WR1 ranking means qualifying for bonus $$$ from BAM, so why not make as much $$$ as possible before calling it quits. If cannot win $$$ from SS, then make $$ from WR. LCW makes RM45K every 3 month, so how much does WPT/CEH makes? It is a job first and foremost, honour of representing country second and passion for the game third.

1) Read OneToughBirdie's post how one of the reason why it's good BAM players to maintain top ranking -> WR# 1 or 2 gets the most quarterly bonus but not RM45K lah, that's for MS.

2) In interviews, WPT/CEH themselves dont really care that much abt the WR or seeding. At times they're surprised they're WR#1. And.... they didnt "fight hard" to be top seed, they just play, so happen they get more WR points :p THe reporter just want to have a story to write.
THe top seed is supposed for the draw, in order to avoid strong pairs until later part in the tourney.

3) If not due to CEH constantly bugged with injuries, WPT/CEH would have won more titles by now.
Msian WD winning WC? LOL, LOL, definitely not currently or next 10 years.
And looking at the injuries the Msian women players face(WMC, Julia wong's dramatic one in SC, CEH, etc), parents would be even more less inclined to allow their daughters to take up pro baddy.
