After "witnessing" her success at the just concluded Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge, I thought this Thai sensation deserves a thread.

Ratchanok Inthanon, at the tender year of 16 (I don't think she's 14 as some of us claimed) and ranked at 131th before the tournament, won her first international title in her senior tour without dropping a single game beating 4 Indonesians on her way to the title.

Major Achievements:
2007: Cheers Youth International (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50890) - GS and GD winners (U-15)
2008: Yonex-Sunrise Badminton Asia Youth U-16 (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58676) - GS winner
2009: Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68318) - WS winner

I watched her play in the Cheers Youth 2007 and Asian Satellite 2008 tournaments held in Singapore. She has great fighting spirit and a 'never-say-die' attitude, qualities which I find lacking in our Singapore players.

Here are a few photos which I took of Ratchanok Inthanon in the Asian Satellite 2008 tournament:

Her facebook also states February 5, 1995.

But the entry list submitted to BWF in BAC U16 2008 stated 5/1/1995.

So, now I am convinced that she is 14.

actually i am not sure she is 14yearsold but anyhow it is immaterial as on record she is. Like most China JR they look older but they can still play bcoz records shows that they are that age.

Actually what counts is when they are much older-can they perform. As at now iam not sure she is the rising star yet.

Whether she will go on and make the grade and be a future champion is still a long way off. Yes, she won the WJ WS title but I still say the odds are against her. Physique wise, I hope she can add a couple more inches to her height. I dont know her exact height now, but if I look at her peers in the Chinese camp, I must say she is short.

Being young, her coaches/trainers have some time to work on her stamina and her technical side, but she needs the height or else she will be at a disadvantage.

As for em' Thais, especially Ratchanok, yes, she is talented. But I must say performing at the junior level is one thing, making the grade and staying in the senior level is another. She is like 14/15?? In my opinion, it is way too early to tell.

she had beaten(senior tournament)
maria febe,lindaweni,maria elfira,nichole grether,tasah,
cheng hsiao chieh(2005 ws wc bronze medalist)
firda(2005 sea games ws gold medalist)
lydia cheah(2007 ajc ws runner up)

titles
vietnam ic
world junior ws champion

and

IMHO, in terms of 'World Class Badminton', Ratchanok Inthanon is already there.

Yesterday, Thursday 24-Dec-2009, she is ranked 73rd in the world (Women Senior Singles).
At her age of only 14, the future looks bright for Ratchanok.
