Hey Sai,I did go meet Kranti @ Y'guda today evening and I got a response that I quite expected.."no membership available".
Its quite contradictory to what I saw with hardly 4-5 courts occupied. Its the same story with almost every other court in Hyderabad, its a nightmare getting a place to play:):)Nevertheless Y'guda is out of my radar now...no point persisting with the lady because she seems to be stonewalling my requests for the membership:)..thanx for the info..i am back on the lookout again for a place to play:)

hey ranjit. good to see u back in action in the forum. good work keep up.

what time would u prefer to play??? Morning is crowded hence difficult to accommodate, so i'm not even offering u any invitation to come join the group, as groups get offended for inviting without others consent. I can recommend in the evenings, if ur interested.

I just wrote to another member who was looking for an opening at the stadium, he is also basically looking for a partner to foray into the stadium. Maybe if ur interested then I can introduce him to u to get started and put in a word to the coach to accommodate you both, so that u wont have to bank upon others. Let me know ur opinion.

Cheers,
Sai

Hey Sai,thanx a lot for your offer but evenings just wouldnt work for me:(I am all too familiar with that "feeling of being offended" that the other members feel haha. Its all too common in any place in Hyderabad(i dont have anythng against the place,i love it,but cant say the same abt the people who play the game here). The oldies gang up and resist entry of any new comer(with no offence taken or given).i am yet to understand the logic behind playing with the same people day in day out:)

Its the same story @ all places in hyderabad(quite a drastic difference from the culture that exists in other cities) except @ Chiraan(which unfortunately closed) and the other place with some degree of sportsmanship is @ Gopic academy.its quite ironic that there are atleast a dozen different places with courts with procedures for membership etc,but in reality getting to play even in one is next to impossible.

I am looking for a place to play in the mornings as evenings just dont work for me..I was an eveninger @ Nizam but with the traffic and the distance etc,it just leaves me with no time for anything else:(I was playing @ ICRISAT but they too have closed down now so am back to looking for a place to play.

anywys apart from my frustrations :p,did you get to play @ the MCH Open @ Ameerpet last month?

hey ranjit,

thats a lot of information pal, I appreciate the hard work behind it. good work keep up the job, even i got informed of new clubs, courts though I knew about them just by name and u furnished the same with more informative news. BTW, where are u from, as u have referred foraying into hyd. and when did u come? if so then it becomes my responsibility as a denizen of hyderabad to accommodate u somewhere or the other using my good contacts. seriously,I dont want u to leave the city with a gross feeling about the badminton fraternity, if ever such a situation arises.

so for the timebeing are u playing anywhere and where do u reside? infact as u mentioned RTA courts@khairtabad, even I used to play there(cement court) before it was closed down for laying of wooden courts and then graduated into the stadium. Infact let me add there is only a single wooden court available in the APTRANSCO, (diagonally opposite to RTA,hanuman mandir),for sometime I played there too. But its crowded too and one needs to go there at certain timings. Mostly its for the employees of the transco, but its ok for others too to visit and play, but u need to wait there which is the worst part and u dont know when they allow u. Its like a dog waiting for a bone, with a salivating tongue. no pun intended.

Occassionally I visit and play there with some old friends namely Mr. Sudhakar(intl referee- badminton, retired) as he visits us too once in a while.

cheers,

is it true? that the bengalee samiti court rented on an hourly basis??? never knew that, infact I need to answer somebody who was looking to play on an hourly basis and what are the charges for an hours, for some who resides close to that place. Is the court still cemented or have they laid the wooden courts?? as I haven't visited the place in ages.

ranjit, on behalf of the badminton fraternity of hyd, i'm sorry for all the frustrating experiences getting entry. with the kind of zeal u've shown in garnering info. and the interest in getting entry in order to play the game has touched me. I feel responsible to get u an entry into some place or the other. btw whats ur level of game, not that I want to judge you nor one can measure it, but still some amount of idea can be formed. Where do u live/reside? r u willing to travel distance in the mornings, provided u get entry into some place? which cities have u played at?

no i havent played nor participated in the mch open@ameerpet. Did u get to play?

So what happened to the other 5 group members??? curiosity got the better of me, i guess. i'll keep my eyes and ears open in case I hear about nething. as u said distance is not an issue, i'll keep u posted with the developments hopefully by monday, as i'm gonna be busy for the next cpl of days with impending pending works.

Ranjit,
If you are from Defence Colony, there is one academy by name Trapez. They have got an Indoor Hard court but it is occupied in the mornings till 7:30 AM. Afterwards, it is pretty vacant. Evenings are vacant as well. You might contemplate playing there since the academy may not be more than 2 km away from Defence Colony.

Hey Sai,

Yes, I rented this for my son last month - 2000 Rs/month for the court for 1 hour /day. Most slots are taken, i just took the only last one left. He went for a month but did not have company(he's bored playing just with me and his sis), if some other 2 to 3 kids his age (10 to 15years) want to pool up and go in the 5 to 6 pm or earlier slots please let me know.

Hi,
I have been desparetely trying to find a place to play since a month. I came to hyderabad 2 months back and staying close to Jaibheri at Kondapur.
I understand there is a club at Jaibheri for badminton, however, I have not had luck getting through that and am planning to visit them one of these days to try my luck.
I have called so many places... none of them have open slot or membership and they are not interested in new membership. Trapeze academy is the only one who has shown some interest, but they don't have open slot until June (at the moment they have open slot for 5 - 6 am) and this place is on the other end of the city for me.
Any suggestion on a place to play for me and also from where I can buy genuine Racket.

Thanx in advance

Hi there,
Do we have anyone here who is a member at Jaibheri Club for Badminton (or if someone knows someone who is a member there)?
Would appreciate, if I could talk to you to understand about Jaibheri Club for Badminton and there requirements for membership (monthly, quarterly, yearly or playing on ad-hoc basis).

Thanx

Yes dude I know Gopichand Academy but that it too costly .. they are asking INR 400/hr.Yes,but unfortunately thats the only option available.JFYI,its per court 400/- per hour,so if you are around 4-6 guys, then it works out cheaper. The other option is for you to join an existing group there.Playing badminton in Hyd is difficult! No two ways about it.The other option closest is the Income Tax courts in Banjara.RD-12.

Are you playing at OU?

Is it the OU indoor stadium that your talking about???? If so what is the membership fee/payment structure?

What are the timings? How many courts are there in all? Is it wooden courts/flooring (the last time I visited it was being used by students as a makeshift camp preparing for exams, this was a couple of years ago).

Please kindly furnish those details too for everyone else to benefit.

Hi friends,
I am new to this city and have been going to Gopichand Academy every weekend. As said by Chikki n brijesh..gachibowli idiots have held the whole place closed just cuz they dont have a coach. I inquired about a month ago...and dont have the latest status.

I stay in Madhapur. I am looking for partners to play either in Gopicand academy or yousufguda stadium ,,,,both of which are nearest to my place. Better still, if anybody can accommodate me in Jaybheri Silicon county courts ..nothing like it!

I am an intermediate-advanced player and am keen on taking my game to the next level. I personally believe that we should really practice for the first 30 mins or so and only then we should play matches. We generally get into playing matches which does hardly any good to our skills and shot execution.

Hoping to find some enthusiastic partners!!

Plz reply on rahulsharma2547@yahoo.com.

Rahul.

Hello All - I'm Pankaj and I have gone through these thread patiently and one thing that comes distinctly in all these posts is the lack of badminton courts in Hyderabad and I might have an answer to most of you.

I'm currently toying up with an idea of building some indoor badminton courts ( say 2 -4 courts to start with) in KPHB,Sardar Patel Nagar Colony ( next to JNTU University,NizamPet Road) which I would like to rent it out for all enthusiastic badminton players on a monthly basis. It is here that I might need help from all you folks and any suggestions to improve the badminton playing experience worthy ,I would like them to hear from you folks.

For eg : What kind of facilities are you expecting in terms of courts ? I'm currently planning synthetic courts of the highest quality since wooden courts are very expensive to start with.

What is the monthly fee folks here are ready to shell out ? I'm ready to have the courts available until 9 PM in the evening with proper lighting facilities so that folks coming from offices can also de-stress themselves on the courts.Preferable timing Morn 6 - 9 Am and evening 4-9 PM.

What are the other amenities would you be looking for apart from the playing courts ? eg. Juice Bar,Shower Rooms,Locker rooms etc.. Extra Amenities means extra cost so the question is how many of you are ready to shell out extra money.

I would appreciate if you guys can give me your suggestions for the questions that I have posed for and also for the ones that I might not have which would help me decide whether my idea of setting up play courts is worthwhile or not .I shouldn't end up in losses later. Please send me your responses @pankaj.chinnakotla@gmail.com

Its a brilliant idea and if you could bring it out to reality nothing like it.A few pointers:

1.Wood is not that expensive to lay,but yes maintaining it could be a problem especially with rains and termites
2.If synthetic make sure the investment is done on the hova courts and nothing less.
3.As for pricing, the present memberships all around are in the range of INR 500 to INR750 permnth, anything in that range should be fine in my opinion
4.I dont think the juice bars etc would really add value to the proposition as the city is starved for badminton courts at the moment, people who look for the juices and cafetarias would end up in other places.
5.I would suggest to keep it simple with just courts and clean washrooms.
6.If its a feasible idea, then I would suggest that instead of having three courts, have the courts in two levels(three courts on the ground level) and three courts in the 1st floor)
7.Else have the courts in the 1st floor and u could use the ground floor for a gym and a small cafe selling the essentials.
8.you would have to find someone passionate to be there during the hours,to make sure there is no groupism and politics, else the place would just go the same way the upteen other places in the city have gone
9.Do not go for those bright halogens, stick to the normal tube lights as the halogen generate a lot of heat and the power bills are going to be huge.tuble lights are easy to replace and provid the right kind of lighting for semi-professionals and amateurs.
10.get an inhouse badminton accesories store open so that people who come to play there are able to buy things there itself, make sure you stock up on genuine stuff at reasonable prices.that is the reason why people still go to the sunshine store at gachibowli all the way from secunderabad.

Hi Krrao/Raghu,
We do play badminton everyday in Friends shuttle association court daily. It is located beside Vijaya Diagnostic centre lane in dilsuknagar. Ofcourse, it is outdoor, but the courts are well maintained.
I am also looking to play in indoor/wooden floored courts. They charge 1000 rs as admission and 300 rs /month for maintenance(shuttles included). I am trying in Saroor Nagar stadium, but seems like it is not an easy task to get in. If you can find somebody who can get us in, I can join you. Do let me know if you need company. I can make it any time.
