Sudirman Cup 2009: Day 3
Greetings,
Waited for someone to start this thread, but no BCer has done so.
Tournamentsoftware.com (click here (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=991DFE99-023B-4853-8AF6-39255247D465&d=20090512)) has been providing us with results daily.
Interesting match today, Day 3, Tuesday 12-May-2009, should be between Denmark and Korea. Perhaps Denmark has the advantage to win.
Cheers... chris-ccc

ctjcad 05-11-2009, 07:51 PM ..one heck of a tie..I wonder though, which team will have the stomach to pursue a spot in the Semifinals Rd. only to face CHN... ;)
badMania 05-11-2009, 08:05 PM KOR vs DEN (Possible Lineup)
XD: Lee Yong Dae/Lee Hyo Jung vs Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl -- the KOR pair has an edge. But, anything can happen.
MS: Park Sung Hwan vs Peter Gade -- Peter has to take this one, no question abt that.
MD: Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae vs Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen -- this is a must win game for either side to ensure that their team progress on. A 50-50 game and the KOR pair does have a slight edge.
WS: Hwang Hye Youn vs Nana Brosolat Jensen -- a must win for DEN, but not so for KOR esp if KOR is leading 2-1 at this stage. Hwang has the advantage.
WD: Lee Kyung Won/Lee Hyo Jung vs Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl -- if the score is poised at 2-2, then Lee/Lee will win this one for KOR.
KOR to take this tie 3-2 or 4-1.
ctjcad 05-11-2009, 08:11 PM ..tonight could be a pretty subdued night/day in BC; no MAS and INA playing..well, maybe we'll spot madbad in here to support his HHY..;)
IMO, MS, WS & MD could go 50-50. It could come down to the last match of the tie..wow:cool:
And whichever team wins, that'll set-up another great showdown on Thursday involving MAS..
jutawin 05-11-2009, 09:06 PM Indonesia don't play today..
Prepare to beat China.
Dukung terus MERAH PUTIH..

Here's the news taken from Malaysia's the Star online :

Rasmussen may return to strengthen Danish team
GUANGZHOU: Denmark’s top women’s singles player Tine Rasmussen may join the team in the later stages of the Sudirman Cup to boost the team’s hopes of qualifying for the Division One semi-finals.
The return of the former All-England winner to the team will spell trouble for Malaysia as Rasmussen is a better bet to win a vital point for Denmark when the two teams meet in their last group match on Thursday.
“Rasmussen has been injured for quite some time and it became worse during the All-England this year. She reached the women’s singles final but lost to China’s Wang Yi Han,” said Denmark’s coach Finn Traerup Hansen on Sunday.
“She is back in training now and we thought it would be a little bit of a risk to bring her here. But, of course, we can always consider flying her here later.”
Rasmussen is on the list of 13 players submitted by Denmark for the Sudirman Cup and she is eligible to take part in any of the remaining matches.
The young Nanna Brosolat Jensen, who fills in for Rasmussen, does not seem to have what it takes to beat the others in the tournament. She lost to Zhou Mi 18-21, 11-21 in the opening match against Hong Kong on Sunday.
Denmark were made to sweat before winning 3-2.
Denmark’s top men’s singles player Peter-Gade Christensen said they would have to be at their best against South Korea and Malaysia to book a berth in the last four.
“This is a very close race. Every match counts and the next two matches for Denmark is everything,” said Christensen.
Doubles player Mathias Boe said he and his partner Carsten Morgensen have a chance to beat the Korean and Malaysian pairs.
“It will be very difficult. Jung Jae-sung had been away fulfilling his military obligations but I saw him play against the Malaysians today (Sunday) and they were brilliant,” said Boe.
very quiet here. and rightfully so. no one here are too interested in Turkey or Ukraine I suppose... :)

Perhaps right! But I am interested in seeing if India reached Group 2 this year.
And I hope they will!!!!
samuel882 05-12-2009, 01:14 AM Go Thailand. BP is having some troubles now.
badMania 05-12-2009, 01:14 AM Which team does INA prefer to face in the SF?
Definitely not KOR, so, we better pray for DEN to beat them to lessen KOR's chance of being the group winner. As for DEN or MAS, I think INA will prefer to face DEN to a certain extent. There's a chance of INA to win the XD (tough game expected), WS (if Tine does not play), and MD (tough game expected too, but with Hendra Setiawan's experience, they might just pull through). MS and WD are also winnable but the odds of that will be lower compared to the other 3 disciplines.
badMania 05-12-2009, 01:23 AM As expected:
PHI 3 vs LUX 0 -- 10 easy points won in PAW :D
TPE 2 vs FRA 0 -- Pi Hongyan will make it 1-2, but TPE will seat the tie in the WD (10 pts as well)
IND 2 vs UKR 0 -- Arvind Bhat just take the first set. Shouldn't be a problem.
SCO 2 vs AUS 0 -- likewise, SCO will take this one!
THA 1 vs GER 0 -- Boonsak is now strectched to 3-sets, but I don't see THA losing in XD or WD (9 pts)
The only tie that could be stretched will be:
SWI 1 vs TUR 0 -- rubber-set in MS, with Christian Boesinger saving 3 match pts!
samuel882 05-12-2009, 01:23 AM BP variety of plays may pulls him through. Hopes he dont choked as in the 2nd games.

On the other hand, Both DAnes & KOREA will wana avoid meeting CHN as early as in SF. Tonight will be a cracker and treat as "FINAL" for both

flymordecai 05-12-2009, 01:44 AM Does the Philippines have a chance to get promoted to Group 3?
abedeng 05-12-2009, 01:45 AM Philippines lost yesterday's match, hope is most likely gone. Only group champions fight each other for promotion.
Turkey has improved since a new coach (my friend) taking over.
ssertere 05-12-2009, 01:59 AM Besides DEN-KOR, Group 3A matches are interesting to be followed. Each team (USA, Czech, Bulgaria, and Sweden) currently have same record, 1 won and 1 lost.
Who will be the group winner, and who will be in the last place..?
flymordecai 05-12-2009, 02:08 AM Philippines lost yesterday's match, hope is most likely gone. Only group champions fight each other for promotion.
Sigh, in 2 years the Asuncions might be not fit to compete anymore. I hope the younger players can fill their spots, though I'm starting to think the Philippines won't rise up until 2 or 3 Cups from now.

India clinch a clean sweep against Ukraine 5-0
India must surely be promoted from Group 3 to Group 2 with their fine performance against Australia (4-1) and an emphatic 5-0 win against Ukraine.
that shows miracles do happen sometimes;)
btw, thai md pair won the 1st set 21-17.
Can't comment too much on poor Boonsak whose form must have continued to drop. Haven't seen him in action lately, but I wonder whether his fitness has suffered.

Just like India in Group 3, Chinese Taipei has sparkled in Group 2 with convincing similar wins of 4-1 against both Germany and France. They must be in contention for a promotion to Group 1.
I'm afraid if Singapore fails again in its next encounters with the Netherlands and Poland, it will be demoted to Group 3. :crying:

One of the most puzzling things for us BCers is to know the line-ups in today's matches.
Hope that someone can post the line-up, like suetyan did, informing us who will be participating today's (Day 3) matches.

now ladies and gentlemen, that's a great line up. we might not know who wins until the very end!
suetyan 05-12-2009, 04:01 AM .
One of the most puzzling things for us BCers is to know the line-ups in today's matches.
Hope that someone can post the line-up, like suetyan did, informing us who will be participating today's (Day 3) matches.
.
you know why today BC is so quiet? Because there is no Indonesia and Malaysia matches involve :o
abedeng 05-12-2009, 04:01 AM Great lineup, the first 3 matches, I think are 50-50 between Danes and Koreans. Incidentally Boe/Mogensen are pretty comfortable playing Korean pairs, beaten Jung/Lee in the Korean Open Final.
But for the next 2, Koreans should have a significant advantage. However Nanna could still surprise madbad's darling ......

Didn't Loh say that TR will be replacing Nanna?:confused::confused:
Yes, I know... madbad will be disappointed.

No not me, certainly not for the SC but TR will be coming to the Singapore Open. If TR should recover in time, she may feature later in the SC against MAS?

it's going to be a tight one. i'm going to stick my head out to predict 3-2 or 4-1 either way.
Hossein_grapH 05-12-2009, 04:44 AM Wont Shiota play today?
flymordecai 05-12-2009, 04:46 AM Wow,.....JPN have to honour to play against Chn 1st choice team.......a full forced team...i tot they only need to be full forced when facing INA.....
Exactly my thought! China isn't playing around with its lineup, but looking at the names of the Japanese players I wonder if it's the right choice by China?

They need to warmup and build momentum.
Very good strategy indeed.

Yes, with this super line up.....Chn is determined to whitewash JPN 5 - 0 tonight...;)
demolidor 05-12-2009, 05:08 AM More missing players ...
After the missing Scot(s), I only just read 3 german players aren't there as well that are still listed on tournament software: Schenk, Lilie and Domke.
Was wondering why Schenk wasn't playing in the women's doubles vs Thailand but not complaining as it clinched the PAW for me and plenty of others :p.
Schenk and Domke missing due to injury, Lilie because her visa got stolen from her car along with her laptop that apparently had her thesis work on it that is due this summer. To make it worse the backup external harddrive was stolen as well .

robin7 05-12-2009, 06:02 AM XD: 50-50 - If Joachim can keep his attacking game, DEN will have a chance.
MS: 55-45 - PSH might surprise PG as his form in unknown but PG still should prevail.
MD: 45-55 - An interesting match but I'm rooting for the Koreans
WS: 40-60 - HHY should have the edge
WD: 30-70 - Good move to let Kamilla to focus on WD.
IMO, DEN has good line-ups and the order of play slightly favors DEN.
If DEN can take the first 2 matches, the 3rd match should be more interesting.
However, if they are tied at 2-2, KOR should seal the victory thru WD in the deciding tie.
The outcome should be 3-2 either way.

TItle of vid is "Julia is back home"
Yippy was dressed in her baddy uniform. Interesting, the opponent sending off the injured player. But no Msian coaches or other Msian players seen. Just one guy whom I think is escorting Julia back home.
But tough luck for Julia, resting 6 months means she's out of WC, supposed to be her 1st.
suetyan 05-12-2009, 09:47 AM just update here...Julia back to Mas today to treat her knee injury...and to my surprise, Yippie accompanied her to airport....can refer to the link below:

Julia needs to be trained on footwork again to prevent future injury. With Lydia out of WC and now Julia, MAS only left with WMC to carry MAS flag in WS. It's really unfortunate for MAS camp. *sigh*

wa u say like ceh is very greedy
cos CEH is quite close to julia i think

http://sports.sina.com.cn/o/2009-05-12/21384376410.shtml
the article is basically interviewing PG after his match with PSH...
nice guy PG firmly says that TR will not be at guang zhou despite the lots rumoured~~
TR is not coming~!!!
should be a reliable one if the chinese reporters doesn't translate his word wrongly~~XD
MAS one step ahead~~hehe
george@chongwei 05-12-2009, 11:28 AM Relax,
whether she's here or not, that does not mean mas has the slight advantage. i can see nanna is improving right now.
anyway, hope that mew choo can win her ws match;) good luck!
Price 05-12-2009, 11:39 AM Bad news for all fans of Peter Gade. After his win over Park he had a strong attack of migraine during the match and afterwards, and is now on a hospital in Guangzhou. Hope he still can participate in the Surdiman Cup!!

I heard from the Astro commentator that he was suffering from migraine attack towards the end of the 2nd game that he couldn't see with his left eye but he still managed to close up the match. Hopefully he will be fine and be able to play tomorrow.
cooler 05-12-2009, 12:04 PM it wasn't long ago that BAM want to write off WMC.
WMC should demand overtime pay for working double shift now

..great support and sportsmanship shown from Yip PY, taking and accompanying Julia all the way to the airport..
Get well soon to Julia, although i think she probably needs a surgery if her knee injury is a severe one??or is it simply a sprained knee??..
you know why today BC is so quiet? Because there is no Indonesia and Malaysia matches involve :o
..tonight/today/Day 4, it could be so quiet in BC, one could hear a pin drop..
Which team does INA prefer to face in the SF?
...
On the other hand, Both DAnes & KOREA will wana avoid meeting CHN as early as in SF. Tonight will be a cracker and treat as "FINAL" for both
..yeap, i'm sure the KOR squad is doing their best in trying to avoid facing CHN in the Semifinals...so, no, the one in control of their destiny is actually the KOR squad..;)
Hey boss, u will reach 19k post with just one more post :p
Ah..I see that u made it!
..19,000 mark is history...kwun is just merely a few hundred posts away from the 20,000 posts mark..;)

According to Msian press,Julia apparently tore her knee ligaments, if just sprained knee her leg wouldnt be in a cast, she wouldnt have to go airport on a hospital bed.
This Group 1A really like fight to the death, Julia injured, PG pulak migraine attack.
THere's Japan vs England, I'm sure Jamesd20 & our Eng BCers will be here to cheer with all their heart.;)
jasonmarc 05-12-2009, 08:48 PM Wah, this PG is superb! Playing with only right eye, also can win over PSH...i doubt it !.........hehehehe
True migraine or just a psychology thingy before big clash with MAS.....?
First, they said wanted to fly Tine over, now migraine,....what next...???
abedeng 05-12-2009, 10:15 PM Kinda disappointed with Nanna's play, suddenly handing the initiative to madbad's sweetheart like that ....... the most uneven match I have ever seen.
Gade would surely be ready by tomorrow night, and probably more deadly as well. In 2007 Malaysia Super Series, he arrived in KL only to be admitted to hospital with migraine, and then proceeded to win the title ......

..(i've read the article in the "Julia Wong" thread) as feared, looks like she'll undergo a surgery...too bad for her but hope for a speedy recovery (she could be out of competitive badminton for a yr)..

At least 6 months.........:crying:
ctjcad 05-13-2009, 03:19 AM ..i'm looking at a longer recovery period (her surgery and recovery/rest alone will take 6 months; then the conditioning, strengthening of the knee period will take at least another 4-6 months on top of her getting her playing form back)..NBA, NFL, MLB players usually take that long to recover and come back from an ACL or MCL injury..

Yup, the NSC doc said 6 months is complete rest, rehabilation time not counted in yet. It's similar to Lee Wan Wah's injury in 2004, if I remember correctly, uncle LWW was out of action 8 months bf he could play competitively again. Thank goodness it's not OG year, if not Julia'll be really crushed. I hope Julia can get back her good form come 2010 Uber Cup time.
