Finally, We reach the semi final match. We have INA vs KOR and CHN vs MAS.

My Prediction for INA vs KOR :

1. Nova Widianto / Lilyana Natsir Vs Lee Yong Dae / Lee Hyo Jung - 50:50 match. Whoever win this match will have an edge to win the final ticket.

2. Sony Dwi Kuncoro Vs Park Sung Hwan - 60:40 for Sony.

3. Maria Kristin Yulianti Vs Hwang Hye Youn - Maria should win this to secure INA's position.

4. Any INA's pair Vs Lee Hyo Jung / Lee Kyung Won - KOR to win this.

5. Markis Kido / Hendra Setiawan Vs Lee Yong Dae / Jung Jae Sung - 50:50 match. Given that Lee Yong Dae has played in XD before, INA's pair has an edge. However, this match could be the tie breaker.

3. Wang Yihan Vs Wong Mew Choo - 55:45 for CHN. In my opinion, MAS should take this to secure their position.

It seems that CEH is injured, if CEH's not playing, NHL will replace her.

And China may not field Yu Yang in both WD & XD.

Malaysia will highly probably lose. Probably better if they can play in the final and lose instead of meeting China at this stage. If all our shuttlers play true to form, they can really give China a good run for their money and definitely a very interesting match up.

Whatever it is, all the best and do your best.

INA vs KOR -- my predicted lineup:
XD: Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir vs Lee Yong Dae/Lee Hyo Jung -- this is an absolutely must-win match for INA. If INA loses this, its 90% certain that they will lose the tie. Based on this year's encounter, Nova/Butet have beaten Lee/Lee. So, INA fans better pray that it's the good side of Nova that shows up tomorrow, not the bad side. It will be a tense match!

MS: Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs Park Sung Hwan -- likewise, INA must also be able to win this one. Both players are not in convincing forms lately. I hope Sony can win!

MD: Hendra Setiawan/Mohd Ahsan vs Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae -- I am quite certain Coach Sigit Pamungkas will not risk Markis Kido's knee and will field the same pair that stole a set from Fu/Cai yesterday. The KOR pair has the edge.

WS: Adriyanti Firdasari vs Hwang Hye Youn -- a crucial tie for both teams. If INA leads 2-1 at this stage, Firda will be under huge pressure to win the match. Likewise for Hwang, if the score is 1-2 or 2-1 to KOR. Based on rankings, the KOR pair has the edge.

WD: Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/Greysia Polii vs Lee Kyung Won/Lee Hyo Jung -- I am pretty certain the tie will be over before this match is played. Either KOR or INA will have secured the wins to progress to the Final. However, if the score is 2-2, then KOR will have the edge in this tie.

Overall, I think KOR will edge out INA 3-1 (if they win the XD) or 3-2.

For INA to beat KOR, then, they need to win either 3-0 or 3-1, which is highly unlikely :o

Note; I went to BWF site for checking the head to head. What a suprise (not at all) when the new site still not funtion 100%. Really, if BWF want badminton become very popular sport in the whole world, at least they can do is make a complete professional looking web site. Hired some top pro web design. They sure can afford it.

Prediction:

Indonesia: Korea will be very tough tough matches and I hope Indonesia will pull this off.

XD: Nova/Lily are questionable when the face tough opponent in team events. If LYD/LHJ all out , they will win in three tight sets which I hope not.

MS: Sonny also lack of focus in playing tough opponent in critical match in team event. The good news is PSH just came back after military service. So Sonny had an advantage here.

WS: Seeing how Maria so tired in match against WYH and maybe had her injury back again, better to play Firdasari who is fit. This tie will become very important for Ina and Korea. 50:50

MD: Indonesia will win this tie cause LYD probably a little tired and Markis/Kido usually can handle playing under pressure well.

WD: If Indonesia only had 2-2 when they reach this match, Korea will win this fight no matter who Ina send. LKW/LHJ were too exprerience and Ina pair just did not had any attacking weapon to penetrate the KOrea pair.

So if we want to win, we had to win 3-1 or 3-0.

This is very funny. Yes, LHJ sometimes can play brilliantly but sometimes can lost points with easy mistakes very quickly. Too bad , that also happen to Nova too. He had some top shots but can make easy one if he feel pressured.

It will be a gripping macthes tomorrow for Ina : Korea except for WD.

(Wishful thinking; If only Vita pair with Lilyana, we had a shot against Kor pair)

Hush hush.....there's a resident KOR fan who will certainly disagree to your first statement abt his dominating KOR pair :o

I see that Coach Sigit Pamungkas gave Mohd Ahsan extra attention in practice yesterday. He was given more service practice with Nova Widianto, Fran Kurniawan, and the other doubles, while Hendra Setiawan is kept on a separate court. I guess Sigit will field Hendra/Ahsan.

MAS vs CHN -- my predicted line-up:
XD: Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Wong Pei Tty vs He Hanbin/Yu Yang or Zheng Bo/Ma Jin -- which ever pair is fielded, CHN will take this pt.

MS: Lee Chong Wei vs Lin Dan -- the much anticipated contest. Unfortunately, this match happens in China and honestly, Lin Dan still has the edge. If LCW can beat Lin Dan in front of his home crowd, it will bode well for him in the WC 2009 and Asian Games 2010.

MD: Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong vs Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun -- a 50-50 match yet again and this time, I think Koo/Tan can beat the CHN pair.

WS: Wong Mew Choo vs Wang Yihan -- again 50-50. Wang Yihan has a slight edge.

WD: Wong Pei Tty/Ng Hui Lin vs Du Jing/Yu Yang -- if the score is 2-2 at this stage, CHN will take this one for sure. I cannot see them losing.

Overall, I think CHN will take this one 3-1 or 3-2.

While Sidek's men and women take on Yongbo's lineup indoors, another MAS_v_CHN is brewing outdoors in Kuantan, this one in Asia Cup [hockey]. As all of you who also follow hockey, South Korea won 5-1 against China in the semi-finals.

Coach Tai Beng Hai is confident his men will finish on the podium by combining the individual skills into a team unit and staying focussed.

All the best to all of them, all as it means good match for spectating in racquet and stick-work!

Even though I predicted KKK/TBH's win at the 2009 Swiss Open, unfortunately, in this event they will lose to CY/FHF.

I have usually predicted as watching their previous games. In Cai/Fu's games in this Sudirman, I saw something improved in them. On the contrary, Koo/Tan showed some deficiency in their confidence especially when playing against Jaesung/Yongdae.

Anyhow, I expect good game between the top players. :)

On Sony vs. PSH, many people predicted favoring for Sony. But I have doubt as their predictions are not based on recent stats between them. Sony is an excellent player but strangely he used to lose to PSH. But the problem with PSH is that he has missed some international tourneys recently because of his military training with JJS; he might need some more time to return to his original sense of play.

Anyhow, for this match, it would be half and half. If Sony can show his sharpness as he did last year, he will easily beat PSH. But if not, the game will be likely extended to the rubber set. Enjoy! :)

Coach Sigit will not want to risk a half-fit Markis Kido to face the Korean, which means that Hendra will not be allowed to roam freely upfront. I think fielding Hendra/Ahsan is a wise decision. INA is aiming to take the pts from XD, MS, and WS; while harbouring some hope to win the MD also.

I was hoping it would be Simon against Park. Park wins matches by grinding his opponents down, which is why he was able to beat tactically superior opposition. Sony's physique might not be able to handle that, the last super long match they had made Sony walk with a limp for days.

And yes, the decision to not play Kido (for INA MD) and Chin Eei Hui (for MAS WD) is probably prudent given that the World Championships is not far away. For INA WS, I told copadh that either Maria or Firda could take HHY or KMI out. Whether or not Firda's mind is up to it is a different matter.

I would move for INA to try and gamble Greys with Lily in WD though, if WD is last match. If the score is at 2-2 after 4 matches, this is worth a try. However, if WD is the first match, then better not.

WOW. What a mean thing to say. Hyde Jung? Hyo Jekyll?

Lee Hyo Jung is an exceptionally talented player. She does have good days and bad days but that goes the same for all the badminton players out there.

I like Lee Yong Dae a lot, too. He's definitely a gem/genius that would dominate the badminton xd/md games for a long time. But I feel like some people underestimate the importance/talent of LHJ. She's an olympic gold medalist and silver medalist at the same time, for God's sake!

I'm not trying to offend anybody out there but I feel like she deserves same credit as well as LYD does.

MK still injured...? replaced by his brother.....who played well against CY/FHF......

Good to know MKY is going to play.......:p

That's contrary my expectation, I thought whatever the reason, Kido would come to the court by his decision. Anyway, that could be from some tactics from INA that a new face could change the mood as JJS/LYD must have prepared for Kido/Hendra, the old partnership.

All the best for the two countries superior in MD. :)

Greysia and Butet are more of front court player.....the pairing will have trouble generating enough offensive smash...

Besides, can the lineup be changed in a moment notice like that??

Hi, I'm the new member in this forum, Nice to See All the BC members,
bout SemiFinal Today I think KOREA will have good chance to Win the Tie, 55:45 for KOREA,
I'm Indonesian, but I should be OBJECCTIVE, from the NewsPaper here in Indonesia this morning, Indonesia is predicted to put their 1st team in this semiFinal and there is no Trial and Error like againts China 2 days ago, the representatives of Indonesia should be:
MD KIDO/HENDRA
XD NOVA/LILY
MS SDK
WS MKY
WD Polii/Nitya

there also an Option that is written in the news paper that is Forcing LiLy (BUTET) play twice in XD and WD (paired with Polii) same with Korea will Force Luu Hyo Jung to play Twice, but for Me Iam Not Sure INDONESIA will take that Option,

WD is for KOREA while WS is for Indonesia, and the rest is 50:50 but in MD littlebit for KOREA I think, Its Hard to say that My Prediction is 3:2 or 3:1 for Korea depending on the Turn Of Play.

Lily has good power, anyway the focus should be on tactics instead of power. Only CHN and KOR gals have power of any degree anyway.

Wrong. the turth is this

1. He Hanbin / Yu Yang Vs Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari / Wong Pei Tty - CHN to take this.

2. Lin Dan Vs Lee Chong Wei - 80:20 match. I could say that it will be the match of the day.

3. Wang Yihan Vs Wong Mew Choo - 90:10 for CHN. In my opinion, MAS should take this to secure their position.

4. Cai Yun / Fu Hai Feng Vs Koo Kean Keat / Tan Boon Heong - 80:20 match.
5. Du Jing / Yu Yang Vs Wong Pei Tty / Chin Eei Hui - 80:20 for CHN.

Total chance % for msia win china is 20%

why wongMC only have 10% n koo/tan only 20%???

for the Chiense WS lineup, LYB says they will send whoever WMC fear most. he doesn't fear playing XXF against WMC. it is actually not a tough choice as the lineup for MAS is rather limited.

China will for sure take WD and XD, to take one match out of MD/MS/WS is quite feasible as the strength is quite even.

Sung Hwan Park Vs Sony Dwi Kuncoro
Hye Youn Hwang Vs Maria Kristin Yulianti
Jae Sung Jung/Yong Dae Lee Vs Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan
Kyung Won Lee/Hyo Jung Lee Vs Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari

If INA want to win this Tie, they Must Save the first Point, after that I think SDK and Maria can Complete the Mission in 3:0, but if Nova/ BUTET fails, this Tie is For KOREA with score 3:2

For MD, I am wondering why is it Ahsan for partnering with Hendra?
He should be good player, but from my single view of his playing;

- he's not good smasher; fast many shots but not strong decider
- he's not tall; yeah, I should admit Kido would be smaller than him, but...

How about Hendrawan who's playing with Yulianto now?

Wondering why not any other tall strong attacker... :)

MD: Koo Kean Keat / Tan Boon Heong vs. Cai Yun / Fu Haifeng
WS: Wong Mew Choo vs. Wang Yihan
WD: Chin Eei Hui / Ng Hui Lin vs. Yu Yang / Du Jing.

If MAS wants to win, they simply can not drag this to #4. By then, it's pretty much CHN lady army. The key is XD, if MAS can win (hardly) or at least dragging this for a long long rubber match (waste YY's stamina), then they have a chance.

If by #4, CHN leads 2:1, you can pretty much give the ticket to CHN. Even if WMC can beat WYH, the WD will wrap up the game pretty fast.

X-factor: YY is injured, and forced to give 2 WO to MAS for free...

I was REALLY worried about those victor rackets, after I visited Victor's webpage. Compared to Yonex's neatly designed webpage, victor seemed "crappy". But it seems like they are playing just as well as, if not better than, before. Victor's aggressive marketing strategy(they signed for sponsorship of Korean national team with something like 4 times more than Yonex has been sponsoring for 28 years)is working well. I might try victor rackets over this summer :)

My predictions

XD: Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari vs. MJ/ZB 5-95
I didn't know Fairuz is playing alone against 2. Where is WPT?
5% is insulting and HHB/YY instead of ZB/MJ are playing.

MS: Lee Chong Wei vs. Lin Dan, 45-55
I'm fine since LD is your countryman.

MD: Koo Kean Keat / Tan Boon Heong vs. Cai Yun / Fu Haifeng 45-55
I'm fine since CY/FHF are your countrymen.

WS: Wong Mew Choo vs. Wang Yihan 2-98
2% is just ridiculous considering how WMC destroyed your mighty camp in CO2007.

WD: Chin Eei Hui / Ng Hui Lin vs. Yu Yang / Du Jing. 20-80
Whatever.

Undoubtedly, CHN is the overwhelming favorite in this tie but your "prediction" is funny.

SDK with a wide return, SDK 17-13..Inaccurate smash is wide from Sony, SDK 17-14..Long lift bounces in, SDK 18-14..Sony can smell it, feel it, touch it, SDK 19-14..Another long lift from Sony lands in, 20-14..Over-anxiousness from Sony, 20-15..And Sony brings the INA supporters to their feet, 21-15 to SDK..

How can drift be an issue when most pts are outright winners. There is a slight drift, but not the one like in India.

Most of what Sony did is to push Park back and then the kill at frontcourt or opposite sideline.
