Only 2 pairs left in the Singapore Open. MD's Gan Teik Chai, Tan Bin Shen and WDs Wong Pei Tty/Chin Eei Hui.

This may be Msia's worse outing in Spore Open. In fact everyone is playing safe and try not to peak so fast the the tournaments. I might sound that im trying to defend those who have lost in the early rounds. Psychologically it might lessen a little more pressure on them as they are building up to WC in India.

However i hope they will do well in the next few tournaments like Msia Gp, Ina Open , Phil Open..

On the side not.. glad that i didnt attend Spore Open.. might have left disappointed.

I think a lot of the players were burnt out after a series of tournaments. Is PG suffering for injuries?I won't have thought he would lose that match today. Nevertheless, Jan O Jorgensen seems to be doing alright so I am quite please. And Malaysia backup squads need to be a lot more consistent than what they are at the moment. That way they will relieve a lot of pressure off the main players from the national team.

But got to say Singaporean girls are putting some good fight against those china giants :).

On the other hand , if you had come to Spore Open, who knows MAS outcome might be better? I was teasing Jennifer, LCW's no 1 fan, that LCW lost because she had to miss his match!
But this tournament has been terrific so far and will continue to be. We have incredible, very high quality matches. The underdogs have been most motivated by the crowd support and perform beyond their belief.
The only worry is the stadium may be minus the MAS fans who make up about 30% of the crowd.Let's hope the INA fans turn out in full force.

Too bad I skipped the Spore Open this year. Like Jennifer, I'm LCW's loyal supporter. Although I would want him to win all tournaments, I know it's not possible. Win or Lose it's the player we choose.

A true champion needs two qualities: 1. Winning games; 2. Gracefully accepting defeat.:)

DLCW had already admit that he is not well prepared for this tournamanet. So it is wise for him to let us know that he is prepared to be not doing well at sg open this year.

He had set in his mind that he is not gaing to make it at sg this year, as early as before his 1st game.

A question to ask:-

- If he is not well prepared, why still participate?

Btw, suetyan, if you did watch Gan TC/TBS matches, please tell a little on how they played. Do they have anybody to advise them in the coaches chair?
And happy hunting for autographs & photos :D

I followed the pair quite closely since R1 -- because they wear APACS shirt :p:p. I think they played excellent throughout and gave a hard time to the more experienced Paaske & Russmusen. The scoreline did not reveal how hard they fought before finally going down. In game 2, even from 19:9 down, they struggled all the way to 19:17 before succumbing at 21:17 . Hope to see more of them :)

Well, maybe for the same reason as LCW, WPT/CEH (1) also lost surprising in 3 games to INA's much lower ranked Polii/Krishinda. I believe the INA pair is relatively new.

I somewhat agree with the view that if LCW was not prepared to retain his SO crown, he should not have 'sacrificed' himself as the title holder.

I believe it is the coach's responsibility to prepare his players to peak for certain tournaments. While I agree that the World Championships is a 'big' peak, the SO can be arranged as a 'small' peak along the way to the big peak. This can be achieved in the training program (periodisation) for any particular player so that he can still compete in two tournaments and do relatively well.

Now if the winner of the SO does well again at the WC later, it will lend credence that peaking twice or more is still possible with astute planning.

Though Lin Dan is not competing in this SO, he was reported as being able to
participate in the forthcoming Indonesia Open and most probably again in the WC. Many would think he is able to do relatively well in both tournaments judging from his recent performances. Unless he fumbles like LCW then planning to peak twice within a reasonable period must still be possible. :D

Reluctantly I accept the defeat of Chong Wei, he didn't prepare well and Tien Minh played wonderful games. How about the defeat of KKK/TBH? I think this pair is already quite selective on tournament participation and supposedly well prepared still unable to go far, so what is the excuse then? The same can be argue about the WD, world #1 ...
To be honest, I think I need to re-evaluate the Malaysian players in the coming World Championship, I think none of the player will go far into the round unless they proof otherwise in the next Indonesia Open.

Wow... fought from 9 to 17? Thats an almost a comeback.. unfortunately they lost the set. Both of them have been training regularly by themselves and once a while with the national team. Sometimes they would have sessions with KKK and some trainers since both of them are buddies of KKK as well.
I hope they will do well in the next tournament as well.

Yup Gan/Tan acquitted themselves well, without coaches they could almost steal game 2.

But the best pairs in the competition so far are Europeans.

The player of the tournament so far is Boonsak, so accurate and deadly. But today he will be put to the test by Park and Chinese coaches would decide who's best to go to the final. Probably Bao, 'cos Chen Jin is struggling.

Overall MAS girls played slightly better than in Sudirman Cup, but WPT's standard is slightly down. Once Nitya overcame her lazyness to support Greysia Polii, the rallies became quite furious. The match was about mistakes and several cheap pts to the opponent at 12-10 saw the Malaysians play catchup that they never could.

But the Danish girls were even more impressive, Juhl's power too much for TQ/PP. They will be favoured today although I would support Nitya/Greys.

Agree.
Now I know another reason why LCW lost. Your absence. And no wonder our economy still down this week...
Anyway LCW was playing rusty even against AS. Like hcyong said, speed was still there but not the sharpness, hence a zillion errors to gift his opponents.
Wouldn't expect too much from LCW in IO but he should be ok against familiar foe like LD.
