Hmm yeah makes sense cuz of his knee. Good to know he is doing well with SIN victory, should boost up his moral for WC, even though we all know its a Taufik vs Lin Dan finals :P (I hope so hihi)

Istora had always been the most critical testing ground for MAS players' mental ability since the 50s. Even as recently as the Thomas/Uber Cup campaign as last year, the boos to MAS players still made their presence felt. Some of our MAS BC forummers who had their first "baptism of fire" in the arena did not understand the reason for it.

Having said that, this is no longer the hostile Istora environment before the 90s. Before that, an outsider (esp Malaysian) needed to have more than motivation to be part of the crowd.

Though I do agree that these recent political and domestic issues do not help matters. More transparency and goodwill will help to restore some stability in cross-border relations.

I hope the EO will increase the security level inside the stadium.

I think is not the issue about which country started it first. is about the crowd being immature for bringing national issues which have absolutely nothing to do with sport into the stadium. Just reporting what's happening in Istora, ants...:p In case some of the MAS BCers don't know what's going on, I just tried to explain why there is an anti-MAS sentiment in the crowd... Many in INA felt mistreated by MAS [even more so, lately]. It just got translated to the fan-favoritism factor in the badminton arena.

If you don't want to know the reason behind it, that's fine. Ignore the whole thing. I just thought I should post the reasons so it becomes clearer why things are the way they are in Istora. Not to start a political debate in this BC forum laaah... :p

I know the reason. I feel for the people of Indonesia for what have happened to their countrymen and the situation. I would be angry as well if someone did it to our own people and land. But again i dont think i can do anything about it. At the same time people have their right to express their dissatisfaction. I have no problem with them booing my fellow Malaysians...but i think they are not booing the players.. just Msia in general for what has happened. Personally i think the abuses and all the torture is rare. And i do agree we are at wrong here for some Malaysians are not showing good examples. There is still bad hats around. At the same time is there is also many foreign workers both legal and illegal who commits crimes in Malaysia when they are here to earn a living. Still there are bad hats around. mcdreamy, it needs hard effort to get the ticket unless you have connection to someone who related with PBSI and tournament sponsor (Djarum). Ticket problem, no surprise...The method of ticket-selling is so conventional, far away from well-organized standard.

Malaysian and Indonesian players of long ago had extremely strong minds, having had "hostile conditioning" from the two great arenas in Jakarta and KL .... :D Hostile reception did not stop the Malaysian squad winning the '67 Thomas Cup in Jakarta, and Indonesia returned the favour in KL 3 years later.

For civilians, nobodies like me, my suggestion is: buy from the calos. Seriously. I queued and was fried like crazy today but only managed to get the Rp.10,000 ones. NOT WORTH IT. Seriously, not worth it. Especially if you're a girl. U get pushed, tortured, stepped on, wet from ur perspiration and others' perspiration, you'll even have some difficulties breathing. I kid you not. Today was the first and last time for me, queuing like that. So people, buy from the calos. And yeah I bet they're all in this whole sick system together: the committee, the calos, even the security guards. Because today some people saw the security guards (who were supposed to keep the queuing lines in order) selling some tickets to calos. True story. You can't just blame the calos, they're all in this together.

Foo Kok Keong of MAS lovveeddd the hostile INA crowd. He almost always gestured for more louder boos... :p Ha ha ha... We remember many matches between FKK with Hariyanto Arbi that was like that... :p INA crowd loved hating FKK :p... In fact, FKK was considered a nice guy by virtually all the INA players and he is still good friends with many INA players even today... ;)

Most of the flash users were the LYD fans [all female teenagers]...:p The INA security becomes weak if they have to be rough against young girls. Hint: if you take away LYD, BCL and FHF, then you will see less flash users... :D But that will be bad for the tournament...

There's always ticketing disaster in Indonesia.. Especially in football match & in music concert also..

Wish there is live telecast today on supersports. Great men singles line up. Anyway that's how the country is, isn't it? Ticketing disaster and booing crowd. That's more interesting than Singapore Open where everyone is so reserved. I think indonesian crowd are more passionate. Hope to go there to watch it next year with my wife.

This flash thing happens everywhere. It was quite rampant in SO also (though it didn't sound as bad as in IO). No matter how many times the announcer warned the audience, there are idiots who keep using their flash. It's an everyday affair.

The best solution I have seen is what I noticed during the Beijing Olympics. The ushers had a sign that they can hold with one hand. The sign warned against using camera flash in a few languages and was large enough to be seen from 20 feet away. Whenever they noticed a flash, they will show the sign in the general direction because sometimes you don't know who exactly the culprit is. If you know who the culprit is, look him/her in the eye and show the sign.

I was in Guangzhou for the Sudirman Cup... the loudest noise was from the INA fans there... :p INA is a large country with virtually no noteworthy accomplishments in sports except from badminton... So we throw all our nationalistic fervor [through sports passion] to badminton. :p We have no other choice... Our soccer team is terrible, our volleyball team is terrible, our basketball team is terrible...

China is good at so many sports-disciplines... I understand that the fans can cheer for many other sports in addition to badminton. Not us in INA... :o

About the MD in semifinals: (A little observation)

From the data of them: turn out Jung JS only 26, KKK only 23 and Kido only 24. but they look much older than their real age.

Meanwhile, FHF is 25 going 26, Cai Yun is 29 and Hendra S is 27. They look younger than their real age.

So LYD is the only one that looks his age.. but then again, no, he looks.. 17.

Some men carrying a big Indian flag rushed to meet Saina after she screamed victoriously... I heard Pak Atiek Djauhari (who is currently coaching India) cried... This is India's first SS title (since the SS system began)...

Yesterday I saw Maria Kristin walking with Andre Kurniawan Tedjono, he looked Korean... :D They officially dated 3 years ago when they were at the National Team... ;) But don't know their current status...

Despite of such uncivil crowd.. the malaysians won. They shouldn't mix political issues with sports.. but then again, what do you expect from these uncivilized people.

3. WD: pro CHN, against MAS; seriously, they were chanting CHI-NA, CHI-NA, CHI-NA... and even MA-NO-HA-RA, MA-NO-HA-RA, MA-NO-HA-RA [the name of the Indonesian model abused by the Malaysian prince]... :p
4. MS: pro INA, against MAS; LCW's prowess totally made us quiet... :o
5. MD: pro KOR, against CHN

The game I enjoyed the most was MD.. super badminton! Godlike performances from both teams.

Totally agreed, politic and sport should not mix. But shouldn't have wrote such statement as well. When I was in the staduim watching the quarter final of WC07, you wouldn't believe the abuse that Lindan got from the crowd. Lindan actually look up and ask the crowd to quiet down a bit. Some of the spectators have natural build in megaphone. Unbelievably LOUD.
