View Full Version : Will Chen Long repeat his winning form against Lee Chong Wei in the Final...?
jasonmarc 06-27-2009, 05:49 AM Well, its final stage now,....Chen Long have beaten LD, LCW and TH......
Tomorrow, he will meet LCW again for the second time in 2009,...so will he manage to beat LCW for the 2nd time this yeat......
alexyong 06-27-2009, 06:22 AM I hope LCW will not give any more excuses this time if he lose, either way i expect a fiery match tomorrow.
suetyan 06-27-2009, 06:28 AM I think LCW won't let CL to defeat him this time, although I am hoping CL can defeat him again.
limsy 06-27-2009, 06:32 AM not much people able to beat lcw in malaysia

Yes....just like 'Revenge Of The Fallen'...he he.
yyclub 06-27-2009, 07:47 AM CL will be one of China star after LD retire. Darn China, so many good players. Malaysia only 1 LCW, Denmark only got 1 PG, Indo only 1 TF.
eddytkwee 06-27-2009, 08:43 AM LCW can win through experiencethere is a chance.. CL can win through power and stamina.. let's watch and see tomorrow..
volcom 06-27-2009, 08:52 AM Yes....just like 'Revenge Of The Fallen'...he he.
The fallen lol, owned within 30 seconds by Optimus.
SE1992 06-27-2009, 10:27 AM LCW should win comfortably. He won so effortlessly in the semis.
Maximum 06-27-2009, 10:29 AM chen long will win... he will win for sure... 100% positive!!!
george@chongwei 06-27-2009, 10:32 AM wow, looks very confident..
thein90 06-27-2009, 10:33 AM difficult to say, chen long will be badminton future "star" ,but i support lcw !!!!!!!!lcw!don disappoint us!!!

limsy 06-27-2009, 10:49 AM chen long will win... he will win for sure... 100% positive!!!
haha,ya.chen long will win
but not in mas gp gold 2009:p
THEbaschti 06-27-2009, 11:08 AM Don't really know who to support, I slightly tend towards CL, but I just hope for a great battle! ....and that I get up early enough to see it live on sopcast =/
markchan 06-27-2009, 11:17 AM LCW has to be cautious. CL has shown tremendous form during the whole tourney. Hopefully LCW is not fatigued having competed in back to back tournaments. I suspect thats what happened to SN , Pi and WMC. Having said that, I was most impressed with WangXin today as she was always 1 step faster than WMC. Have not seen the other Wang play, but I suspect that is theri forte, speed.
I am really looking forward to tomorrow's finals, esp the MS.
robin7 06-27-2009, 11:23 AM I think fitness is not an issue for LCW as he only played 2 matches in Singapore. Based on form, LCW should see off CL in straight sets.
apontoh 06-27-2009, 05:35 PM I agree with robin, i think LCW will defeat CL..
In a year's time, could we see the "4 Wangs" dominating women's singles? WL, WYH, WSX & WX
suetyan 06-27-2009, 08:03 PM I agree with robin, i think LCW will defeat CL..
In a year's time, could we see the "4 Wangs" dominating women's singles? WL, WYH, WSX & WX
It is possible for the 2 Wangs (Wang Lin and Wang Yihan) to dominate the women's singles event in one year time. However, it is not possible for the other 2 Wangs (Wang Xin and Wang Shixian) to do so, but, maybe in 3 to 4 years time. For your information, Wang Shixian is still in the second team (China Youth Team). You must know how competitive is women's singles field in China :D Actually I like Wang Xin's style of play, but as you know, Li Yongbo dislikes shorty, so my guess eventually she may be ended up having the same fate as Jiang Yanjiao :( Today final, Wang Xin v Wang Shixian would be a very tight match. Wang Xin is going to fight for her first title here whereas Wang Shixian is going to fight for this title in order for her to enter the first team. Both have different goals :D We cannot call them teammates because they are trainned in different team :p We can only call them senior and junior :D
pralinescream 06-27-2009, 08:08 PM despite all of lee cw's shortcomings, i have no doubt that he will defeat chen long today for his 2nd consecutive title.
he is the best out thr and 2nd only to Super Dan.
like he is the division 2 top dog while lin dan is in a league on his own.
dood1234 06-28-2009, 12:29 AM ... but as you know, Li Yongbo dislikes shorty, so my guess eventually she may be ended up having the same fate as Jiang Yanjiao :(
I guess that explains why we don't see her play in as many international tournaments as Wang Lin & Wang Yihan?
This is not fair to Jiang Yanjiao as she is as talented as those two girls. In fact, I believe she beat both Wang Lin & Wang Yihan multiple occasion. Correct me if I am wrong but she still has better head-to-head records against the two Wangs.
dood1234 06-28-2009, 12:48 AM not much people able to beat lcw in malaysia

Bao Chunlai also beat Lee Chong Wei in 2007 Malaysian Open to get to semi-finals.
extremenanopowe 06-28-2009, 12:57 AM While he is whipping. I am off to KL... food galore... ;)

yes, Jiang Yanjiao is always a teammates killer :p
george@chongwei 06-28-2009, 01:29 AM no doubt chong wei will win this:cool:
ehhhehe
zqloy 06-28-2009, 05:39 AM CL's standard is not even the likes of BCL and CJ yet. Needs 3 sets to beat TCS, a guy having problems even getting to the main draw in every tourney...
Got a free baddy lesson from LCW this time lol.
CLELY 06-28-2009, 06:23 AM There's still wide gap between the world #1 and former world junior champ...And Chong Wei won 21-16 ; 21-9.
george@chongwei 06-28-2009, 08:18 AM yes, he's totally getting 'whitewashed' in the 2nd set though..lol:D:D
SibugiChai 06-28-2009, 08:28 AM yes, he's totally getting 'whitewashed' in the 2nd set though..lol:D:D
no wonder Taufik said CL still got lot to learn!

Wait 15 years, he will get demolished by everyone else. I can say the same. You get the point right, no one cares about the future.Only present.
huangkwokhau 06-28-2009, 09:50 AM Come on guys...Chen Long is China's future and he will be getting better...of course since more people are aware of him.....Du Peng Yu is the next, the rest are not as good as CL or DPY.....

how abt gong weijie?
huangkwokhau 06-28-2009, 10:23 AM how abt gong weijie?
in 2007, GWJ was about to play Double only...he got better but not to CHN/s standard...I believe that next year, we may not see him more as well as Qiu Yan bo/Wen Kai or Zhou Wen Lung...CHN will prioritize Chen Long and Du peng Yu to main team....

Only ignorant people, blinded by short-sightedness refuse to invest in the future.
So let's don't care about the environment now and pollute it, cos no one cares about the future?

But at least GWJ can beat PG, QYB hasn't do anything of note at all.
Lu Yi has been the worst... they prolly cannot be at the standard of Chen Yu, or Zhu Weilun..

Yes...LuYi is still young..now Chen Long and Du Peng Yu is CHN's number 4 and 5...good news that China has Badminton League, at least they will be playing there...it is more difficult now fr CHN players to play for other countries ( including to HKG...still some chinese players are only sparring but not allow to play for HKG...sad..)..
For QYB, I had been told that he beat most of his teammates though....at least, he will be part of badminton league...

Good job, thanks for taking my words out of context and twisted them. Why not talk about global warming in a badminton forum while you are at it, you not-so-ignorant good sir? And making preparation for the future so that you have a better future has to be done in the present not in the future.
Dr. Evil 06-28-2009, 11:18 AM Chen Long receive a lesson in playing badminton in the highest level by LCW. It would have been over even earlier but LCW wanted the fan to get their money worth.

Big deal, Peter Gade was just beaten recently by Anup from India, I don't see anyone making a big deal out of it.
Just typical lah, any chinese player had a good day and beat some top player, instantly become future world champion for the jia you fans.

How about check how many times GWJ beats Gade, while you're at it.
No one said GWJ is going to become world champion, so I have no idea where your random bamboozed assumption came from.

Yes, true.....he will be the next LD in China....if everythings goes as plan...:p CL has great future in Chn....a gold medal prospect in London 2012...Olympic.;)
So far, DPY still acted like...BCL or CJ as 2nd MS in CL's batch....will play as supporting role....to CL.....:D:D

AFAIK GWJ has beaten Gade 2-3 times
badssp07 06-30-2009, 02:41 PM I don't understand why some people are just so reluctant to give due credit to Chen Long, a 20 yr-old lad who's only 2nd year into the senior circuit.
Chen Long may not yet have excellent footwork or perfect skills, but he has reached at least SF stage or more in all 4 tournaments he played in 2009 and that's commendable results.
Not to mention that he has beaten : LCW (world ranked #1), LD (world ranked #2, reigning olympic & world champion) and TH (acknowledged badminton genius) in less than 4 months.
Name any 20 year-old who has achieved the above ?
Chen Long also seems to have good on-court manners, so why don't we judge him as a player rather than by his nationality?

The name "Chen Long" would have been celebrated like crazy by the majority of this forum if he was representing boleh land or Ina instead. Quite frankly, even Boonsak got more credit for entering 1 final so far this year without beating any of the real top players on his way, than Chen Long actually beating some of the best in the circuit.

BY CHN's standards, CL would be considered 'lagging' to only be a WJC at his age.
Credit has been given when credit is due. He played very well defeating TH but so did DPY. CHN's rote training expertise can always help their youngsters upset non-CHN stars. The question is whether they can repeat the win. Well, CL couldn't do that against LCW. That's probably because LCW did not play as expected, making the last video CL trained for, outdated. So you can see CL lost, unlike his confident play vs TH (who played as expected).
LD losing to teammates would not be surprising now. It helps to shore up their self-belief so they will think, 'If I can beat LD,LCW would be easier.'
What has been created of CL's image is that of a giant killer. This is useful in making opponents fear him. So that would be half the battle won.
His big weapon is his smash so if his opponent is skillful enough not to lift often,CL can't even get started and play with confidence. CL had few opportunities to smash vs LCW,so that's how opponents should see CL for what he really is right now. His netplay gets worse as match progresses. That's one useful way for his opponents to track his confidence during play.
I'm sorry to say CL's good court manners did not last. After beating TCS, his celebratory behaviour was quite appalling.(It's the same as what NR did after beating GL/ZB in CHN.) Maybe he was emboldened by the CHN fans and thought he was playing in CHN. The crowd booed him but they forgave him.
LCW was very nice to him on the podium. Hopefully, CL will learn more good manners from LCW.
CL is still a rookie but fans think he's CJ calibre just because he's created some upsets. He's a long way from CJ. Sure,he can rote train to beat top players who play predictably. But it will be interesting to see how he play Sony or even Denmark's JOJ. Or JPN's Tago.

but no doubt...he is the best younger batch....in the world now.....;)
jaydee 07-01-2009, 04:03 AM Chen Long = good guy, good future... I support him too because of his sportsmanship and well mannered on court like LCW.

Chen Long is showing potential to be a great player. Not too sure what lcleing is trying to say.......
lcleing 07-01-2009, 10:33 AM Sorry,my bad. I should have clarify my point a little. I do regard Chen Long as the best player out of the younger batch(at the moment), there's no doubt about it. However, to automatically assume that he will do well in the future is just plain silly. I can equally say the same to Jan O Jorgensen, that he will be Peter Gade caliber in 1-2 years time because he does show some potential. But all of that are just plain assumptions. Anything can happen in the future. What if he just decided to quit baddy after a few months just because he lose his passion?
It's too early for us to tell what's going to happen in the future that's why I personally don't like statement like someone is going to dominate/win a tournament just because he got some momentum rolling at the moment. All player has his/her ups and downs but whether he/she can remain at the top depends alot on his/her attitude towards the game, only time can tell. You can go on and on and praise how brilliant this player is. But before he bagged a few titles under his belt, I will reserve my comment and observe whether he can stay on consistent throughtout the year. Just my 2 cents.
tommy_bun 07-01-2009, 11:16 AM But it will be interesting to see how he play Sony or even Denmark's JOJ. Or JPN's Tago.
He beat Tago twice at WJC
danielwong 07-01-2009, 08:39 PM at least CL did some upset while Msia Elite back-up or juniors
still lagging, so CL deserve credits for that
while our elite or juniors must buck-up with Hendrawan around now
OneToughBirdie 07-02-2009, 10:55 AM CL has to do 'better than good' while other country's junior star players just have to remain 'good enough' to remain in the national squad e.g. Tommy, TCS, CWF, Arif, etc., that explains why CHN junior player improves so much (also to get to train with the top players in the world helps) compare to other countries junior star player who remain stagnant and cannot progress to the next step.
I would think to make CHN national squad is mentally tough with so many up and coming players ready to kick/bite you in the behind, one gets only so many chances to impress, not like if you fail, well you get to try again and again and...,take GWJ a former WJ star who plays occasionally in non-SS tourneys and simply fading away. Go anywhere but in CHN, GWJ will be get star treatment like great coaching, bonus, keep all the winning $$$ and maybe a Datukship, and more...
To beat an aging TH, PG, I say is not that tough than to make CHN top 4 man-squad..women side even harder and far more competitive...time will tell even Zhu Lin, Wang Xin, Wang Shi Xian, JYJ etc are just not good enough to remain/crack CHN top 4 when more and more young players coming up and the rest of the world has PHY, ZM, WC, WMC, Tine, all having been around the block...some recycling the block several times around and....:p:D

Totally agree.
Logically, CL should have the best shot at being the best among the youngsters simply because he would have extensive training opportunities that other rookies would not have.
But DEN's JOJ has shown he is a fast learner. With just a year of exposure, he has beaten his seniors, PG and JP, taken a game off LCW and CJ and created some other upsets. His skills are still improving but his edge is likely to be his quick pick up on tactics. The right tactics against an opponent makes it easier to win.
