Depends on the racket grip. If the original grip is G3, I use the original grip. If I can only get a G4, I add an additional grip to make the grip slightly bigger.

I took off the original grip (G4 size), then, wrap 2 layers of overgrips instead.

this is gonna sound daft, but i'm gonna ask anyway.

why do so many of you need a big grip? i don't believe you all have hands that big. i'm 6'3" and i'm quite comforable on one grip. and i don't have particulary small hands either. in fact by the general rule of thumb (grip should fit comfortablly inside the ring created by thumb and index finger) my grips fit.

do extra grips not make ur racquets feel head light?
do you lose a feel for the bevels on your grip, doesn't your net play suffer?

all of these are problems i associate with borrowing somebody's racquet that has a big grip...

It's also about the feel of the grip as well as sweat absorption heh. Adding more grips sometimes produces a different feel in the ridges that you just wouldn't get if you used only 1 or the original grip.

i think its primarily trying to adjust a G5 or G4 grip, to something more comfortable. and from my experience, using a grip size that is slightly too big IS easier than using something too small. a too small of a grip will result in someone gripping too hard, potentially causing injuries, as well.

sometimes its hard to find a racquet you like with the proper grip size.
sanding down the wood is hard. adding grip is easier.
so if the guy can only find G5 racquets (or perhaps, he was looking for a SP or JP coded yonex), which usually only come with G4/5, then he'll have to resort to using more grip to thicken it up to an acceptable thickness.

and you also should remember, some under grips, such as the bk competition grip i use, are really thin, slightly thicker than thin overgrips.
and some use an under grip for some trait it has (the ridges in my case), with the supergrap for it's feel.

Before on my Forza, I had the original grip, 2 overgrips and one replacement grip. Needless to say at the time, it felt great. It balanced out the racquet even more, which I loved and most importantly, it had felt great. Nothing suffered, if anything, my performance level went up. There was a lot of shock absorption, especially from the replacement grip.

At the moment on my Yonex NSs, I just use one overgrip over the G4 grip + original grip.

I guess the finger power concept has me going.

In UK, I think u only has G3? However, many other places, only G4 or G5 could be easily obtained. Therefore, the difference to begin with is already 1-2 layers of overgrip. ;)

hmmmm - i'll have a look at this.. not sure what size my grip is. wow...
i know people over here that have like 2 grips over the original.. absolutely huge...

funy thing tho, i had coaching last night - and my coach is a lot smaller than me (he's only 5'2" or something) and he has an extra grip on his racquet making it quite thick. i asked him why - and he said that with only one grip on he always got blisters..

funny that - i really suffer from a callous at the bottom of my little finger on my racquet hand...

maybe i should put and extra grip on....

hmmm...

Hahaha. Maybe that explains his nick :p.

But seriously though... LB do you wrap the A440 supergrap twice??

I usually get raquets with G3 or G4 grips and then i put a towel grip on over top to make it thicker.

4 - 2UG4 - cab21's all have originalgrip ripped off

all only have 1 yonex supergrap, wrapped all the way up to the top of the cone.

feels GREAT.

All my racquets are 2U, G4.

I find putting too many layers of grip bad because you lose all the grip shape. I prefer taking the original grip off, put a thin layer of vernish and put a karakal PU super grip.

well i have two rackets, both with G5 grip. at first i just used one yonex supergrap.. and it felt ok. a callous (im guessing thats what it is) developed at the base of my pinky on my racket hand though, and i'm not sure if its because im gripping my racket slightly incorrectly =/

my coach was telling me how my grip is WAY too thin (he has crazy thick grip that he got custom made) so, i tried 2 layers of yonex supergrap, and it felt pretty good. right now i use AC102EX supergrap for the bottom laye (0.6mm), and a taiwan version of old A440 on top, which is thicker (0.7mm) and supposedly lasts longer. when i replace the grip i only have to replace the top layer, which saves me money coz the grips in taiwan are a lot cheaper, but for some reason the A440 was made slightly glossy, so my sweaty hands make it untacky in a few weeks :o

does anyone know how to solve the callous on finger problem? ><

wont the thick grip obstruct the racket movement when turnign the racket?

whats your preference? thick or thin?does your coach insist you go for thicker grip for any particular reason? thanks for sharing

at first i felt that the thicker grip slowed down racket reflexes, but after i got used to it it felt ok. everyone's preference is different, and i think that thicker grip just feels better in my hand. some people might like thicker grip to feel the racket better or whatever reason.. it really depends.
some people really like factory grip.. but i think its too um... hard? i like softer grip.. but i've tried a racket with something that looked like factory grip with 4-5 overgrips over it.. and it felt really heavy and slow, so i dont like that either :(

Hi
I have G4 and G5 's grips and I usually tale off the original grips and replace them with soft tack Bay USA grips. I found this grip:Bay USA is much better than the soft tack Pacific grip.Just one layer of this soft tack grip will be ideal.

Sorry for the late reply.

Here's the steps I do these days, after I receive a new racket (G4):

1. Remove the original grip - prefer to use hair blower to blow for 1-2 min, this way, the glue will be melted, and grip/glue could be easily removed.

2. Wrap 1 layer of thin tape on the wood - water proof purpose?

3. Wrap 1 layer of Babolat VS. overgrip (0.44mm). Yonex A440/AC102EX is fine as well, just not as thin (0.60mm).

4. Wrap 1 layer of Yonex A440/AC102EX (prefer yellow :D ).
