My friends and fellow BC Singapore members know that i've been out of badminton for about a month now and will be out for a long time still to come.
All because of something in my wrist called Tenosynovitis. Its something that is supposed to cure over 6 weeks. But it looks like its gonna take a lot longer in my case. Well anyway, why am i posting this? Becuase i just want to warn all of you, if u ever feel that your wrist has an ache, not a muscle ache, but an internal sore, REST!!
Or see a doctor, which is the best thing to do. Otherwise you'll end up like me and you WILL regret it.
Anyway, happy smashing!

Yeah, you should have stopped playing when u felt the persistant pain in your wrist....
Hope you get well soon!

Wow, sounds kinda serious... Hope u get well soon.
Actually, that happened to one of my friend, too. I heard that someone introduce him a Chinese traditional doctor. That guy give him some medicine wine, and ask him to "wash" his wound constantly (daily? not sure). He happend to be in perfect shape after several months.
Good luck.

Anybody given 'several months' to recover from tenosynovitis will probably feel in perfect shape (with or without traditional Chinese medicine).

Sorry, I guess I did not make myself very clear in the previous post.
He did use that "medicine wine" for several months, but actually, it took him for about 1 month (almost daily, just called him to confirm :D ) to be able to play again. But due to the doctor (and his MOM)'s advise, he did continue to use another kinda "medicine oil" after some "hardcore" games to further prevent his problem. (for another less than 2 months, he said, but not daily anymore, just on and off base)
Sorry for the confusion.

lol, give the girl a break. ;)
:D j/k with my comment. Hope you feel better byro-nenium and speedy recovery so you can be back on the court. Injuries are never good. I just recovered from an ankle injury that took me out of sports for a couple of months.

ok I'll try to describe my inury..... I'm right handed.
Put your hand out flat on the table with your palm facing down, does the right side (there's a kinda popped out bone there) of your wrist hurt? (from a right hander's perspective)
Thats what i felt back in late June, went to a chinese doctor... did acupuncture TWICE in during the summer... it doesn't hurt now
but back in August, it didn't hurt since i took a 3 week rest. When i got back to playing again, the day after playing, the right side of my wrist starts to hurt... hurt only if i move it, and the doc said its nothing about the bones, its got to do with tendons
that's only the right side of my wrist.... and I believe it's near 100% recovery... unless it starts to hurt all of a sudden again the day after playing
yeah there's something weird about the left side of my right hand wrist too :(
the left side of my wrist is fine except when i bend my wrist backwards (think of pusshing against the wall with your palm until your wrist and forearm form 90 degrees) so whenever i do pushups now, gradually i feel this pain from the left side of my wrist as i bend my elbows and wrists
its better better now though... I can do 10 push ups without feeling pain
I really don't know what to do with this left-side wrist injury.... except for not doing pushups that much anymore, rest, and put on wrist bands when playing at the wrist and elbow joints
How can i prevent this type of injury?
Is the only cure rest?
and what should i do with my left-side wrist injury? I THINK i'm recovering since it doesnt hurt that much anymore
I play 1 or 2 times a week, depending on my wrist and shoulder, each time around 2 to 3 hours
by the wayI just played yesterday.... today i felt fine so I dont know if I should just stop playing until I feel no pain from doing 50+ pushups??

I'm not sure if this relates to anything you guys said, and completely different, but here it goes:
When I play, I find that if it's cold (~15'C) and I don't keep my arms warm, I sometimes get sharp pains in my forearm after a couple of games, and my smashes feel a little 'off'. If I bring a towel, run it under hot-warm water and wrap it around my forearm for 3 min before I play, then my arms doesn't hurt at all (so long as I reheat the towel and wrap it again if i take in 20+ minute break.) Oh yea, my smashes are alot more powerful than if I don't do it... I guess it lossens the muscles so i can flick my wrist more?

Now that's impressive. Wish you went to medical school and all the suffering that goes with it just to explain something on badmintonforum!
I am definately impressed.

Byro,
Just to say hope you get better soon. How do you cope with the badminton withdrawal symptoms?
One thing I did with an injury like yours was to keep gradually strettching the wrist into different positions so that the ligaments/tendons wouldn't tighten up. Of course, if there was the slightest bit of discomfort, then I would stop.

Turns out i dont have tenosynovitis. I'm in Malaysia now for treatment and the doctor told me its not what i had thought.
But i'm not gonna go into that, don't wanna be labelled as a winer.... :P
