It may not just skill only. He must have very strong wrist. Otherwise, the other top player like LD, LCW and PG should be able to do it also.

If i'm right it's not 260, but only (well only, it's not weak lol) 200 km/h. Still it is very fast. Takes a lot of practice to be able to hit it that hard.

Right. 260 is just around the usual speeds of forehand smashes from top shuttlers.

You can check the 200km/h back-hand smash maybe in 2005 or 2006 WC.

Ask Smash_master I guess....though it looks as fast as a forehand smash just less angle.

I saw the video, but it didn't display the speed. Controversial. It doesn't look like fast enough in my view.

Let me find another video, 2006 WC vs Chen hong....the reading was over 200km/h I remember...

Check the rally starting at 9:00....there are 2 big hits, Taufik's backhand smash, and CH's jump smash, and the reading is 261km/h.... one of them was that.

Yeah... I'm still recalling and can't find the right video on Youtube; maybe I'm wrong. It should be around 250km/h not 200km/h.

I think, that it's just possible, only thing I read was that his backhand was clocked over 200 km/h. Although I'm pretty sure that it won't be any faster then 240/250 km/h. And i also think, that Taufik doesn't hit it that hard as in 'The Good Old Days' when he was Olympic Champion and World Champion.

The famous backhand era of straight backhand smashes came after those days....except maybe the backhand at the Thomas Cup 2004, and some backhand smashing at the WC2005.

Back in the late 70's, I remember there was a Danish player who had an incredible backhand smash. His name was Fleming Delf (sp?). I think he won All England in 1977(?)

Too bad no youtube videos back then...
