US$150K for 2 weeks telecast of 5 hours a day highlights.
Sing got so mad they refused to broadcast the Asiad.
Correction: Ina bt China 3-1 thks to China's ever dependable
doubles. So final Korea vs Ina.
Chen Hong didn't even get the chance to play Hendrawan.

Yeah, Channel 5 was showing IND vs China LIVE just now!
It was a pretty exciting contest between Xia Xuanze and Rony Augustinus! Managed to catch the first set on the bus on my way home and caught the 3rd set at home!
Luckily Mongoose managed to record Taufik vs Lin Dan, X.Xuanze vs R.Agustinus and Candra/Sigit vs Z.Jun/L.Yong!
Gonna borrow from him to watch. :p
Looks like IND are gonna win the event.....
MEN’S TEAM EVENT – Semi-finals
Indonesia beat China 3-1
Taufik Hidayat (INA) beat Lin Dan (CHN) 15/12, 17/14
Xia Xuanze (CHN) beat Rony Agustinus (INA) 13/15, 15/9, 15/8
Candra Wijaya & Sigit Budiarto (INA) beat Liu Yong & Zhang Jun (CHN) 15/8, 13/15, 15/7
Halim Haryanto & Tri Kusharjanto (INA) beat Zhang Wei & Chen Qiqiu (CHN) 15/9, 15/9
Korea beat Malaysia 3-0
Shon Seung Mo (KOR) beat Wong Choong Hann (MAS) 4/15, 15/6, 15/7
Lee Hyun Il (KOR) beat Lee Tsuen Seng (MAS) 15/5, 15/2
Lee Dong Soo & Yoo Yong Sung (KOR) beat Chan Chong Ming & Chew Choon Eng (MAS) 12/15, 15/9, 15/3
The question in the China vs Indo series was why would China send out Lin Dan to face against Taufik? Lin hasn't won a single match since the return to 5x15 while Bao Chun Lai and Chen Hong have both done very well. Any of those two would have been a good choice, maybe Chen a little better choice because of his recent victories. After Lin lost, it was all over!

err, try 300 C$ + string + plus GST.
Anyway, i can't figure out why china can't produce good MD players that could take INA.

It has to do in part with China's stubborness in not wanting to hire a better doubles coach. Park Joo Boon would have been a good choice after he leaves Malaysia. At this rate, their doubles current doubles don't look to be going anyway great. However, China has potential in future prospects, Sang Yang and Zheng Bo who won the men's doubles at the junior championships in 2000. They just have to keep developing them.
Maybe it has to do with better players prefering to play singles in China.
Both Li Yong Bo and Tian Bi Yi were in world's top ten singles before they formed a
pair in 82/83.Rudy Hartono, Christian and Liem Swie King were very good at doubles.
Strange enough Msia is making doubles players specialise in school. They look at
certain players with certain desired skills such as strength and speed and start
them as doubles pair when they are young.Yap Kim Hock's talent scouting has
resulted in about 2-3 world class junior pairs to watch.
Unfortunately somehow it has also come to a point where Msia has no potential world class under 18 singles.
Korea bts Ina 3-1 for gold! Look at the close score over 3 sets between Taufik and
Shon! They didn't even have to play last singles as in most ties nowadays. At one
point Taufik staged a walkout. The Koreans play like men possessed in their home
ground!
I thought I saw glimpse of Li Mao in the Korean team in news highlights?

According to the news article on http://www.worldbadminton.net, Taufik stormed off in the middle of the second game, furious over another dubious line call by the line judge.
The match could have been ruled a win by default but instead team officials negotiated and ended up with quite a precendent in allowing the umpires to over-rule the line judges (instead of replacing the line judge in question).
One of the Korean players responed by saying that if the games had been held in Indonesia, the INA team would have enjoyed the same advantage... Hmmm...so, it's okay to fix the results? In which case, why not declare the host country winners in all events?
It's too bad that line judges are being given a black mark by the actions of a few.
there is actually a history of biased line judge in Korea. i have read reports dates back to the late 80s, if i remember correctly, it was a match between LiYB/TianBY and ParkJB/KimMS, may be the WC or something.
on most reports, i have read things like this:
"But the players need to also be careful about the possibility that the linesmen will prefer host shuttlers, and not to mention the tremendous home crowd support,"
excerpt from Associated Press:
The dispute over bad line calls forced chief referee Boon Kong Ee of Singapore to appoint four international referees to officiate as linesmen, replacing the local officials after the opening singles.
Two referees took positions behind linesmen during the Hidayat-Shon encounter, which resumed with the disputed point being replayed.
After resumption there was just one disputed call during the third game, which was changed by the chair umpire in favor of Hidayat. The umpire ruled that Shon's shot went over the baseline.
"It took a big effort to persuade Taufik to resume the match," Hadinata said.
"Good shots by our player were being called out and those by the local player were being ruled in," Hadinata said, adding that the Badminton Association of Indonesia's chairman, Chairul Tanjung, had lodged a complaint with the chair umpire in the first game of opening singles.
Asian Badminton Confederation's general secretary Punch Gunalan said complaints of bad calls by line judges were not new to badminton.
"There's a problem having local line judges, but the crunch of funds has made us use them in various tournaments," Gunalan said.
"Complaints have been made in the past and even in this tournament," he said. "Maybe we'll start referring the close line decision to television. We've got to do something soon for the sake of badminton."
Well, the same controversies occurred in the FIFA world cup 2002 that was hosted in Korea. The Spaniards scored a goal in the first few minutes of extra time but that was rule a no-goal and the Koreans ended up winning that quater-final match in pentalty kicks. Lets just hope that no line-judging controversies occur in the badminton individual events starting tonight with the Men's and Women's Singles.
Erm.... hi everyone. Kwun "scolded" me for not posting after I went for the Singapore Open so to make up for that, I'm writing to say hello. For the time being, I'm stuck in USA (second year of college - urgh!) though I do surf the Net occasionally and especially now, just so I know what's happening in Pusan.
Of course, it's depressing to hear that Korea won the Men's event from poor line-judging - if that was what really happened. I didn't see the match; only read a report from World Badminton and some rather disgruntled posts here. Will any kind soul who saw the whole thing brief me on what happened, or was Taufik just in one of his moods again?
In the meantime, it's nice to be back again - even if only for a few minutes. Take care everybody and have a smashing good time!
Cheers,
Adel
Well I saw highlights on TV and in match Taufok vs Shon
the shuttle was well in at crucial stage. You need to be short-sighted
to call it out.
Of course taufik over-reacted, the Msian team for eg.have long built in
bad calls in their game and to make due allowance.
In other countries they do things like switching off stadium lights at crucial stages
or creating lengthy distractions.
Kwun was right Li Mao is Shon's personal coach.
What I saw in highlights was that Shon and Lee played like they were possessed.
Asiad Men's Singles latest :
Hafiz bts Chen Hong over 3 sets.
Therefore Quarter Finals :
Hafiz-Taufik,
Wong Choon Han-Lee HI
Xia Xuan Ze-Hendrawan
Gopi-Shon
Let's see if Xia can at last break the jinx and finally bt his bogeyman b4 he retires.
I think the player in form is Taufik.
Li Mao once said that Shon had the most potential among the young Korean MS players, even more than Lee HI who has been posting the best international results. Li did such a good job in Korea that their BA was virtually begging him to return after his contract ended. And he did.
Anyway, I was quite sad that Lee HI didn't come to the Sing Open.
QF-
Xia loses again to his nemesis Hendrawan over 3 sets.At end of 2nd and 3rd
set, Xia looked like he had just completed the marathon.
There is a flaw/limitation in Xia's game that is always exploited by other marathon
runners like Hendrawan, Roslin or Ong Ewe Hock.Looks like Xia will have to wait
until these players walk in crutches before he can beat them.
Match up : Lee Hyun Il vs Hendrawan and Taufik vs Shon/Gopi tomorrow.

It's gonna be INA vs KOR for both semis tomorrow, and alas, taufik vs shon in a rematch of the men's team final.
Either Lee Hyun Il has really improved a lot or something's wrong with Wong Choong Hann at this Games. Maybe it's just the Korean crowd. Wong was leading 9-4 in the 2nd after winning the first, yet he gave it away to Lee 15-9. In the decider, Wong trailed 0-11 before scoring 6 points and handing the match to Lee.
Didn't expect Hendrawan to beat Xia by such a drastic score in the decider. GO HENDRAWAN!! But it's Lee he'll be up against. All the best of luck.

Lee Dong Soo/Yoo Yong Sung bt Khunakorn/Patapol 15-4 15-9
Chan Chong Ming/Chew Choon Eng bt Candra/Sigit 8-15 17-14 15-5
Pramote Teerawiwatana/Tesana Panvisvas bt Liu Yong/Chen Qiqiu 15-6 9-15 11-15
Halim Haryanto/Tri Kusharyanto bt Kim Dong Moon 15-7 8-15 15-8
Semifinal: Lee/Yoo vs Chan/Chew
Teerawiwatana/Panvisvas vs Haryanto/Kusharyanto
Quite a surprising result. Didn't expect Kim/Ha and Candra/Sigit to lose.
Finally Chan/Chew are able to overcome Candra/Sigit. ALL THE WAY!!!
In women's Singles SF action:
Zhou Mi (CHN) beat Wang Chen (HK) 11-1, 11-4.
Gong Ruina (CHN) beat Kim Kyeung Ran 11-3, 11-3.
Another all Chinese affair in Finals!!
In women's doubles QF action:
Yan Wei/ Huang Nan Yan (CHN) beat Shizuka/ Seiko (JPN) 11-5, 11-8.
Ra Kyung Min/Lee Kyung Won (KOR) beat Saralee/Sathinee (THAI) 11-7, 11-3.
Lee Hyo Jung/Hwang Yu Mi (KOR) beat Ermawati/Marissa (INA) 11-3, 4-11, 11-6.
Gao Ling/Huang Sui (CHN) beat Cheng Wen Hsing/Chien Yu Ching (TPE) 11-5,11-6.
It will be Korea vs China, Korea vs China just like the women's team finals!
In regards to the men singles, I wonder what would have happened if Bao Chun Lai was sent into the singles competition??? He would be able to make it to semis at least.
GL China.
Final- It's Lee Hyun Il to play Taufik. If anyone has the skill to beat the in-form
Taufik it must be the in form Lee.
Mixed doubles gold was won by Kim Dong Moon/Ra Kyung Min as predicted. Women's doubles final will be anther Ra Kyung Min/Lee Kyung Won vs Gao Lin/Huang Sui matchup. This one should be very close: 40-60 would be my guess.
In men's doubles, surprising Pramote/Tesana got through Heryanto/Harjanto with relative "ease". I pick them over Lee/Yoo in finals. Hands down on Taufik in MS finals.
Wah kao! You mean Candra/Sigit and Kim/Ha - the two invincible pairings actually LOST? I'm devastated honestly. But all the best to Lee and Yoo in the finals... haven't figured out how to say this in Korean yet. For the MS, I'm *still* rooting for Taufik.

I disagree. Lee/Yoo beat Halim/Trikus with relative in the IND Open semi finals in IND HOME GROUND!!.... 15-4, 15-9. They went on to win the IND Open beating Flandi/Eng.
Lee/Yoo are not bad..... they're definately fav. to win though I prefer Halim/Trikus to win instead. :)

Lee/Yoo are a decent pairing and yes on paper, they look destined to win. They advanced further than the Thais in each of the past several major tourneys but I still pick Pramote/Tesana, maybe because I want to see the underdogs win! :D The Thais just have to find a way to neutralize Lee and Yoo's yelling and screaming. :p
